Chapter 9: Chapter 9: A Gunfight
In a luxurious villa in Clearwater Bay's third sector, Leo Yu was deep in a dream, arms wrapped around a beautiful woman. In his dream, he saw Ethan Yang kneeling before Baldy, begging for mercy as Baldy raised his aluminum bat for a crushing blow.
Suddenly, his phone rang, jolting him awake. Irritated, Leo grabbed his phone, cursing under his breath.
"Who the hell is calling this early?" he growled.
The woman beside him stirred. "Who is it, Brother Qiang?" she mumbled sleepily.
Smack! Leo slapped her across the face. "Brother West? Who the hell is Brother West? Are you cheating on me, you slut?" he snapped. "I told you not to mess around while you're with me! Now shut up!"
Still fuming, he answered the phone. "Who is this?"
"Young Master Li... I mean, Young Master Yu!" came a panicked voice. "It's me, Baldy. Something happened."
Leo frowned. "Baldy? What now? Don't tell me you screwed up."
"You don't understand!" Baldy's voice trembled. "We chased Ethan like you said, but… but we ran into a pig spirit!"
Leo blinked. "A what?"
"A black pig spirit, Young Master! It flew through the air and attacked us! All three of us had our legs broken. We're in the hospital. You gotta help us!"
Leo's temper flared. "Are you trying to scam me? A pig spirit broke your legs? Do you think I'm an idiot?"
"I swear it's true! I'll send you the video. Just help us out, man!"
Leo watched the footage Baldy sent. The terrified expressions on Baldy, Blondie, and Greenie weren't something they could fake. Confused and angry, Leo drove straight to the hospital. When he saw the trio laid up with their legs in casts, he finally believed something strange had happened.
Still, he wasn't convinced about the "pig spirit" nonsense. In his mind, Ethan must've pulled some kind of trick. That boy was craftier than he seemed. Tossing a bank card at Baldy, Leo sneered. "You idiots can't even break one guy's legs properly. Useless." Then he stormed out of the hospital.
Meanwhile, Ethan Yang had just finished loading his van with fresh vegetables at the wholesale market. As he drove back, a white car suddenly sped past him, almost clipping his front bumper.
"What the hell?" Ethan cursed, gripping the wheel tighter. "Crazy drivers…"
Before he could calm down, a black car zoomed past right after it, tires screeching as it chased the white car down. Up ahead, the black car swerved and forced the white car to a halt. Ethan slowed down, curiosity piqued.
A man dressed in black leapt out of the second car. Using the vehicle as cover, he pulled out a Desert Eagle and aimed at the white car.
"Oh crap… a gunfight?" Ethan muttered, quickly pulling his van to the side of the road. He wasn't stupid — better to stay out of it. Still, his curiosity got the better of him, and he grabbed his phone to start recording.
"Come out!" the man in black shouted. "Thomas! You won't escape this time. I don't care what kind of mercenary games you played overseas. You're in Dongzhu now!"
Mercenaries? Ethan's eyes widened. He'd heard stories about those guys, like action movie villains in real life. This was getting interesting.
The white car's door creaked open. To Ethan's surprise, three men stepped out — two towering Black mercenaries and a yellow-skinned man who had to be Thomas. They took cover behind their car, each armed with a pistol.
Thomas smirked at the man in black. "Come on, Xavier Jie. Did you really think I'd come alone? These are my partners. You've got thirty seconds to call your superiors and let my brother go, or we blow your brains out."
Sweat dripped down Xavier's forehead. Ethan could see the tension in his stance — he was skilled, but three-on-one was a death sentence, even for someone experienced.
Ethan kept filming, heart racing. "Damn… this is better than any action movie!"
Suddenly, shots rang out. Xavier dove behind his car as bullets shattered the windows. The mercenaries fanned out, firing in controlled bursts. Xavier returned fire, crouching low and moving fast.
Ethan ducked behind his van, peeking out just enough to keep his phone aimed at the action. "I'm gonna get so many views for this…" he whispered.
As the gunfight raged on, Ethan realized one thing: whatever this was about, it was way beyond anything he'd ever seen before. And somehow, he knew it was only the beginning.
