Chapter 9: Why… This Kid Is So Messy Now!!
When Lu Yuan and Su Liyan returned to the compound shortly after one in the afternoon, the courtyard hummed with post-lunch activity. Most residents had emerged from their sweltering homes to seek refuge beneath shade trees, the summer heat making indoor naps impossible without fans.
All eyes immediately locked onto the couple—or more specifically, onto Su Liyan.
“Who is this?” asked a group lounging in the front yard, their expressions bewildered.
Lu Yuan held Su Liyan’s delicate hand firmly. “This is my wife,” he announced with a proud smile. “We just received our marriage certificate today.”
Question marks appeared on everyone’s faces. A young bride? Certificate obtained today? When had this happened? There had been no prior indication, no preparations they’d noticed. And this daughter-in-law—she was stunningly beautiful. The delicate features suggesting demon clan ancestry…
Wait.
Demon clan ancestry?
A collective gasp rippled through the crowd as they recalled Wang Xu’s boasting from the previous evening about her soon-to-be daughter-in-law with demon blood who was exceptionally pretty and gentle.
Surely not…
While the neighbors processed this revelation, Lu Yuan calmly introduced Su Liyan to everyone. “This is Aunt Zhang, and that is Uncle Li…” Su Liyan stood obediently beside him, greeting each person with perfect courtesy whenever her husband mentioned them.
The commotion drew residents from the backyard. Learning that Lu Yuan had married a beautiful woman of demon descent, they exchanged knowing glances. One thought dominated: could this be the bride Wang Xu had claimed last night?
Suddenly, a voice like grinding teeth cut through the murmurs:
“Well done, Lu Yuan!!! I knew it was you, you little bastard, who stole my daughter-in-law!”
Lu Yuan had anticipated this confrontation. Given Wang Xu’s aggressive nature, an outburst was inevitable.
He turned toward her with a challenging glare. “You’re quite the comedian! I stole your daughter-in-law? When did Su Liyan become yours? Did she agree to marry your son Wang Xiaofei? Did she agree to marry you? I hadn’t even met her, yet she’s already your daughter-in-law? Let everyone be the judge!”
His words stunned the onlookers. Let them judge? Did he have no shame? Everyone had heard the morning’s commotion. Initially, they’d pitied Wang Xu for her misfortune, but now the situation appeared different. Lu Yuan had clearly learned about Wang Xu’s beautiful prospective bride and deliberately stolen her away!
True, the girl had only agreed to meet Wang Xiaofei today, not to marry him. But some understandings transcended explicit agreements! For Lu Yuan to request judgment seemed the height of shamelessness.
Su Liyan, sensing tension, quickly intervened: “I only promised to come look today. I never said I would—”
Before she could finish, Wang Xu thrust a finger toward her face and snarled, “Shut up, you little bitch! You think I don’t know what you are? You’re a traitor’s daughter! You filthy rag—with your background, you wanted to marry into my family? And we were generous enough to consider you!”
After the matchmaker had departed that morning, Wang Xu had been unwilling to let the matter drop. She’d rushed to Shuntai Guesthouse, determined to discover who had stolen her prospective daughter-in-law. Though the matchmaker had already departed with another girl, the remaining girls in the dormitory confirmed Wang Xu’s suspicions and revealed everything they knew about Su Liyan’s background.
She’d returned home and waited for Lu Yuan’s arrival, ready for confrontation. Since Su Liyan was already legally married to Lu Yuan, Wang Xu couldn’t reclaim her as a daughter-in-law—but she could ensure their life together began with humiliation. They had shamed her family; she would make them suffer!
A heavy silence fell after Wang Xu’s tirade.
Then came an extraordinarily crisp sound that echoed throughout the entire compound.
Lu Yuan had slapped her—hard. The impact sent Wang Xu spinning twice before she collapsed to the ground. He’d actually restrained himself, fearing that killing the old woman might land him in prison. His newly acquired top-tier physique granted strength that required careful control.
The compound erupted in chaos. Wang Xu, seeing stars, regained consciousness and began wailing dramatically: “He hit me! He hit me! This little bastard struck me!” She kicked the ground like a tantrum-throwing child.
Lu Yuan towered over her, his voice thunderous. “I’ll hit you for being such a despicable person! You truly believe you’re untouchable, don’t you?”
Wang Xiaofei, witnessing his mother’s humiliation, charged forward with a roar. But the young man—half a head shorter than Lu Yuan—stood no chance against someone with supernatural physical prowess. Lu Yuan easily overpowered him, delivering a thorough beating to both mother and son.
Neighbors rushed to intervene, but found themselves shocked by Lu Yuan’s seemingly impossible strength. Ten men couldn’t restrain him as Wang Xu and Wang Xiaofei howled in pain.
The commotion finally brought the compound’s three deans running. Surveying the scene with disbelief, the eldest shouted, “Lu Yuan! You insolent brat! How dare you assault people in this compound!”
Only then did Lu Yuan relent, somewhat satisfied with the beating he’d administered. Both mother and son were thoroughly bruised. But rather than showing contrition before the deans, Lu Yuan faced them defiantly.
“You’re the brats!” he bellowed. “You and your entire families are worthless! What’s wrong with my actions? She insulted my wife first, and you said nothing! Now you appear seeking justice?”
Everyone stood frozen in astonishment.
Good heavens. This boy no longer respected even the three deans!
No… why had this formerly mild-mannered young man become so unmanageable?
