Chapter 19: Chapter 19
Chapter 19 Arlong
The Fishman who stood before Brett is Hody Jones. Prior to the restoration of his memory, he was already the person that Brett despised the most on Fish-Man Island.
Even after retrieving his memories, Hody's position in Brett's eyes remained unchanged.
Both Brett and Hody are quite young, having grown up together on Fishman Street, with Hody being merely two years older.
Hody idolizes Arlong and has adopted his ideology of fish-man superiority, even embracing it in a more radical manner than Arlong himself.
Ultimately, while Arlong was concerned for his fellow fish-men, he harbored enmity towards humans. From the viewpoint of a fish-man, he was not a heinous person.
Conversely, Hody exhibits a different attitude. He is merciless even towards his own kind, fervently advocating for extreme notions of power and has bullied weaker children on Fishman Street since his early years.
As a hybrid of human and fish-man, Brety naturally becomes an irksome presence for Hody.
Hody derogatorily refers to Brett as a half-breed, although this was not the case in their childhood.
During their younger years, Hody frequently employed more derogatory terms whenever he encountered Brett.
Nonetheless, despite their shared identity as fish-men and sharks, a significant disparity always existed between Hody, representing the great white shark, and Brett, who is akin to a megalodon, a distinction that was evident from their youth.
Consequently, Brett delivered numerous beatings to Hody as a child. Over time, Hody managed to improve slightly in his behavior but did not alter his attitude much.
"Hody," Brett scoffed, "I recall warning you several times to maintain a respectful tone when addressing me."
He raised his hand directly.
There truly was nothing further to discuss with him.
A flicker of fear crossed Hody's face, and his stature, shorter than Brett's, instinctively took a step back. He sneered, showing a lack of confidence, "Are you here to meet Brother Arlong? Unfortunately, he is not interested in seeing you right now."
He elevated his voice and called out, "Brother Arlong, this guy Brett is looking for you! "
"Brett? "
Laughter echoed from within the house, "Hahaha, is my dear brother here? "
A figure emerged from the room.
Dressed in an unbuttoned floral shirt that displayed the Sun Pirates' insignia on his exposed chest, wearing a fur hat and possessing a nose reminiscent of a sharp arrow.
"Oh! Brett, my dear brother." The newcomer was Brett's older sibling. Upon seeing Brett, Arlong could only chuckle and exclaim, "It has been a long time. "
Brett nodded towards him, expressing some sentiment, "It has truly been quite a while, Brother Arlong "
"Brother Arlong, I must return now as I have patrol responsibilities this evening. "
After giving Brett a teasing glance, Hody bid farewell to Arlong.
"Alright, take care, Hody," Arlong smiled, displaying a very amiable demeanor.
Hody departed without a glance back.
Brett watched Hody's retreating figure.
In contrast to Arlong, he is bound to instigate trouble on Fish-Man Island sooner or later.
' Should I kill him when there's an opportunity?'
Having one Hagerr was enough, and there is no necessity for a second person who may disrupt his carefree life.
"Hahah, you still can't let go of that, Brett?"
Arlong chuckled and remarked, "You two have had a bad relationship since childhood, but now that you have matured, it is time to move past your grievances, don't you think? We are all comrades. "
It is difficult to fathom that such words were coming out of Arlong's mouth.
"I have nothing to discuss with him," Brett replied nonchalantly.
"Bahaha! Stubborn lad, let us go greet our old friends."
Arlong smiled and proceeded into the house.
Brett trailed behind.
Thus, he was unable to hear Hody Jones, who was departing Fishman Street, muttering under his breath with a twisted expression, "Brett - damn bastard! Just you wait! ! "
This was not the first occasion that Brett visited Arlong's home. Upon entering, he encountered a throng of Fishman.
Many among them were familiar to Brett, former allies in the Sun Pirates, while the remainder also consisted of recognizable faces from Fishman Street.
"Is there a gathering? "
Brett smiled.
He acknowledged old acquaintances.
However, only a handful of friends responded, some diverted their gaze, and many others shot hostile stares at him.
It appears that the circumstances are more dire than anticipated.
Brett let out an inward sigh.
"Hahaha, because something big is happening! "
Arlong settled into the large chair at the center, surrounded by fishmen, stating with seriousness, "It would be better if you rejoined us, Brett. "
He continued earnestly, "What do you say, Brett, my brother? Come and become a member of my pirate crew. "
". . . "
Brett paused momentarily, "Brother Arlong, are you abandoning the Sun Pirates? "
At that moment, a fishman arose and exclaimed, "What are you still pretending for, Brett! Didn't you just come from Jinbei? Didn't he inform you about this? "
News travels remarkably fast.
Indeed, everyone on Fishman Street seems quite idle. Is everyone engaged in gossiping?
"Brett, Jinbe requested you to come and persuade us, right? "
The speaker was a fishman clad in martial arts attire, possessing blue skin and fins at his elbows.
His name was Kuroobi, one of the prospective leaders of the Arlong Pirates. He stated gravely, "Are you aligning with Jinbe's side? "
Brett responded calmly, "I merely wish to prevent the Sun Pirates, founded by Brother Tiger, from fracturing. "
This was in accordance with Jinbe's request.
Despite being rescued, Arlong harbored significant discontent regarding Jinbei's submissive stance towards humans, hence he resolved to depart from the Sun Pirates and establish a new Fish-Man Pirates.
"Stop uttering foolishness, Brett! It was Jinbe who shattered the Sun Pirates! "
Another fishman proclaimed loudly, "That weakling Jinbe bowed to the lowly humans! He yielded to the World Government that murdered Brother Tiger and has become a servant to humans! "
Brett frowned.
"Alright, there is no need too say that. "
A fishman rose to mediate the situation. He possessed six arms and bore the emblem of the Sun Pirates on his forehead. His name was Hachi. "Ultimately, Boss Jinbei rescued us."
"There is no need for persuasion, Brett. "
Aaron focused intently on Brett's face, "Since Jinbei has relinquished his resentment, allow me to exact vengeance for Brother Tiger! A reprisal against humanity on behalf of us fishmen! ! "
He proclaimed fervently, "Make use of blood and death to convey to humans that we, the fish-men, are the true superior race! ! "
Brett experienced a wave of sadness.
How many years of built-up animosity did it require for Arlong who once snuck to the sea and gazed at the Chambord Islands with bright eyes, to reach this state?
"Come and assist me, Brett! " Arlong extended his hand toward Brett and stated earnestly, "If it were you, you would undoubtedly make humanity remember forever! ! "
In response to Arlong's plea, Brett shook his head, "I apologize, Brother Arlong, but I no longer wish to be a pirate. I simply desire to remain peacefully on Fish-Man Island and lead a peaceful life. "
"What did you just say! ! "
The composed response instantly incited Arlong's fury. He lunged forward to seize Brett's collar, "Brett! What are you implying! A person like you, someone brimming with talent! ! Are you going to remain inactive? "
"Have you also disregarded Brother Tiger's enmity and the oppression we fish-men endure from humans?! "
Brett pressed his lips together.
What could he say? Wait for Monkey D Luffy to change the world in a decade?
However, even if Arlong believed this absurd notion, he would not care. His sole ambition was revenge against humans.
"I have stated it, Brother Arlong! He has already allied with Jinbei! He has allied with humans! "
The fish-man who had initially challenged Brettt raised his voice, "Do not overlook the fact that he is not a complete fish-man at all; he remains a human being! "
Brett fell silent for a moment.
Humans designate him as a fish-man, yet the fish-people regard him as a human.
It is... unfortunate
"Is that so? I see--"
Arlong released Brett, sneering as he stepped back, "Has the weakness embedded in your human blood also influenced you, Brett? "
"It is truly sad. Leave, Brett, and do not show yourself before me again! You are not welcome here! "
It is pointless to express anything at this moment. Everyone directed their disdain towards him.
Brett had no alternative but to depart.
As he walked along Fishman Street, a sense of sadness overcame Brett.
'What actions should be taken regarding Arlong?
Truthfully, the life and death of a group of people far away in the East blue Sea do not concern me.
Even if they are characters in a story, what difference does it make.'
Had his memories not returned, he would undoubtedly lack any complexities regarding the situation.
However, the issue at present is that the memories of his past life as a human have resurfaced.
'Not only is my lineage now divided, but my consciousness also embodies a blend of human and fish-man traits.
Should I stand by and witness Arlong inflict harm upon a group of innocent humans?
Even if i intervene , what method can be employed to stop it?
Aaron's animosity towards humanity is deeply ingrained, and it is useless to think that verbal persuasion could alter his perspective.
So, am I going to fight Arlong for the sake of a bunch of strangers?'
"This is truly frustrating. "
Brett was plagued by a headache.
He now faced a new concern.
Arlong's statements triggered reflections on matters he had been diligently evading.
'Is this truly beneficial?'
The life he yearned for—was it genuinely acceptable to merely exist peacefully on Fish-Man Island without taking any action?
Will the world that emerges after Luffy becomes king indeed be a realm where fish and mermaids experience joy?
Why does it seem that returning home brings forth so many anxieties?
"At this juncture, I ought to approach her."
Brett resolved to seek out his childhood sweetheart.
