FLASH MARRIAGE; CHARMED BY THE RUTHLESS BILLIONAIRE CEO

Chapter 356: You Must Be Mistaken

The following morning, Senator Gregory was preparing to leave the mansion for work when he was approached by his head of security.

"Good morning, senator."

"Morning. Are we set to leave?" The senator asked while fixing his cufflinks.

"Yes sir. The car is ready, and so is the security team."

"Good. Any word from the assignment I gave you?"

"Yes sir." He replied curtly. "The team I sent to investigate Lilian Shawl's return to her husband has discovered the real reason behind her sudden change of heart."

The senator paused what he was doing, his curiosity piqued. "I'm listening."

"According to our spies, Lilian had been living a quiet and peaceful life for the past six months with her parents in the countryside. She had never tried to contact Matt or even rekindle her relationship with him while he was in prison. But everything changed after she was alerted of Matt's intended release. We discovered that she was trying to flee the country with her children. But she was forced to halt her plans when she got wind of her parents' mysterious kidnap."

"Seriously!" The senator's forehead furrowed as he could already picture his evil younger brother as the mastermind behind the kidnap.

"Yes, senator. We believe Matt is behind the kidnap."

"Obviously..." Senator Gregory spat out in disgust, heaving a sigh of frustration while massaging his forehead. "And I'm sure he's using this as a leverage to compel her to do his bidding."

"Very correct, senator." The security head concurred. "Would you like us to dig further into the issue and find out those responsible for the kidnap?"

"Please do." Senator Gregory gave his approval. "Find out who is responsible for the kidnap and rescue Lilian's parents if possible. Once that has been achieved, we will cut her a favourable deal."

"Okay, senator."

"What about Matt? What has he been up to recently."

"We had people follow him like you requested, and these are the places he has been to over the last forty-eight hours." The security head handed the senator an iPad containing several pictures and short videos of their investigation.

Senator Gregory sat down on his bed as he scanned through the pictures on the iPad, swiping one after the other.

"Who owns this place?" Senator Gregory pointed to the clubhouse Matt was captured walking into.

"The Wild Foxes Clubhouse is believed to be owned by this man..." The security head unlocked his phone and brought up a picture in his gallery. "...Sean Williams Don. It is rumoured that he is a master of disguise and stealth movement. No one can currently pinpoint his accurate location. But we have reasons to believe that he is currently in town."

"Get more men to investigate this place. Let them go undercover. We need to be five steps ahead of Matt to beat him at his game."

"Yes, sir."

"Hmm..." Senator Gregory chuckled bitterly at a picture capturing Matt walking into an apartment which was currently under heavy surveillance by Blaze's ghost team.

"So the two adulterers are already rekindling their old flames." Senator Gregory scoffed as he returned the iPad to the security head.

"Yes, senator."

"So predictable." The Senator spat out.

"It might also interest you to know that Matt visited Desmond and the two might be working together now."

"Desmond...." The senator shook his head in pity. "He never learns until it's too late."

"Would there be all senator?"

"Yes. You may leave. I'll join you shortly." He waved his hands dismissively and the security head exited his bedroom. He stood up and resumed his dressing.

Afterwards, he picked up his phone and suitcase in readiness to leave the room when he got a call from a private number.

Furrowing his brows, he contemplated briefly before answering the call.

"Who is this?"

"It's your son-in-law. Blaze Anderson."

At breakfast, Regina briefed her daughter and sister on Matt's visit and their discussion. She didn't keep anything away from them, including Matt's referral of Gwen as his illegitimate child.

"He said that!" Gwen flared up, tossing the remaining sandwich she was eating on the plate, fury coursing through her veins like liquefied metal.

"Yes, dear. He didn't just humiliate and body shame me, but relegated my own child to the level of a doormat, placing that ugly elephant and his children above us." Regina blinked back her tears that threatened to fall.

"That animal has really got some nerves." Pearl hissed, dropping her steaming mug of tea on the table. "As if making a mess of our lives and speeding up our eviction from the Shawls mansion isn't bad enough, he dares to call my precious niece an illegitimate child and my sister a whore. Someone needs to put that arrogant fool exactly where he belongs."

Gwen pushed back her chair and stood up. She walked over to her mother and placed her hand over the latter shoulder.

"Don't worry mom. We will make him eat back his words in due time. I will make him regret ever bringing me into this world as a toy."

"That is my plan." Regina lifted her moist gaze to look at Gwen. "The only challenge is that I do not have the resources to fight him or that bastard who divorced me and left me empty-handed. They are both powerful men and could crush us with one word. Nevertheless, we can use one stone to kill two birds."

"How." Gwen pulled the closest seat beside her mother and sat down while holding her gaze.

"Matt wants to destroy Greg and Greg wants to do likewise for the abuse of his late wife." Regina pointed out.

"So if we can have both of them destroy each other instead, we will come out triumphant and, if possible, rich." Pearl's eyes gleamed with excitement.

"Bingo." Regina chimed. "I could always contest that divorce claiming I was held under gunpoint to sign the papers."

"What about Amelia?" Gwen had a serious look on her face. "Greg would certainly will his entire property to her if she's still left alive."

"Who said anything about leaving her alive?" Pearl snorted.

"We will take care of her just as we did her mother." Regina leaned back in her seat, a wicked grin curling up her lips. "With Blaze sentenced to life imprisonment or death and Greg permanently taking care of them, Amelia will be at our mercy."

All three women cackled like witches invoking a spell.

After breakfast, Gwen left the house for Nora's apartment. She had been trying to contact Nora for days now but to no avail.

Gwen couldn't tell whether Nora was mad at her or avoiding her. But whatever it was, she needed to find out.

Driving one of Tyler's exotic cars, she arrived at her destination in less than thirty minutes.

Before alighting her car, Gwen tried Nora's number again to see if it would connect.

Sadly it was still the same old story that the number wasn't reachable.

"Did she change her line?" Gwen queried her thoughts out loud as she exited the car and strolled across the street to Nora's apartment. She knocked once, then twice and twice, but no one answered the door.

When she tried to use the spare key Nora had given her to their apartment, she discovered he could no longer open the door.

"What! How strange." Gwen gawked at the single key, thinking she must have grabbed the wrong key. But she discovered it was the same one Nora gave her, which she had used severally to gain access to the apartment.

When she was about to try the key a second time the sharp voice of a man caught her off guard.

"What are you doing?"

Gwen immediately spun backwards, her heart skipping a beat, as she came face to face with a total stranger.

Standing before him was an averagely tall-looking bearded man with thick eyebrows, piercing brown eyes and a deep slash scar on his forehead, which added to his frightening nature. He was dressed in a sweatpants and singlet that showed off his powerful muscle, which could crush a man's head when held in the right position. His narrowed and dangerous expression was far from friendly and he exuded a dark aura.

"Who are you and why are you trying to open my door?" The man demanded again taking two steps closer to Gwen.

Gwen almost wet her pants as she stammered a reply that further provoked the man.

"Y...y... your d...door!"

"Look here, lady..." The man growled in a semi-repressed voice, his gaze darkened. "I'm going to ask you this question one more time and you better give me the response I need if you do not want to end up inside my basement."

Gwen's eyes widened in alarm at his last statement. She swallowed the lump in her throat as the man repeated his question.

"I was looking for my friend." Gwen managed to whisper. "This used to be her house."

"Your friend!" The man raised a brow.

"Yes. Her name is Nora and she's five months pregnant."

"Never heard of that name or seen anyone like that here." The man said, still eyeing Gwen suspiciously.

"You must be mistaken."
