Chapter 559: Smooth As F*ck
"H-Hey, Rai Hou, are you sure about this? We won't just get swallowed up by some random monstrous creature's maw out of nowhere... right?" Walter asked with a hint of apprehension.
At this point, it wasn't just a matter of hating Shye.
He asked because he genuinely feared that a creature might suddenly emerge from the unsettling darkness and swallow them whole before the warrior walking just ten meters ahead could detect it.
It was truly difficult to entrust the crucial scouting task to a warrior-class adventurer, regardless of their competence.
Hence, despite his irritation, Rai Hou patiently reassured everyone that the current formation, with the scouts positioned just ten meters ahead, would ensure safe navigation through the dungeon.
Naturally, since the former party leader said that it would be safe, Dalton and Walter had no choice but to believe so, gripping their weapons tightly in preparation for a sudden ambush.
They still didn't trust Shye's recon abilities one bit.
A few more minutes later, though, Shye suddenly came back to the main group, leaving them slightly confused as to why he returned.
"Crowley, are there enemies?"
"Yeah, there are two monstrous creatures hidden in void pockets twenty-five meters ahead. I'll lure them out. Rai Hou, prepare your strongest attack and assassinate the one who will attack me from the right. Me and the main group will deal with the one on the left."
Shye's orders sounded logical, and the way he acted suggested that he wasn't a beginner at leading adventurer parties.
Hence, despite their initial hatred and prejudice, Dalton, Walter, and Freeze nodded in agreement.
This was Shye's first test as a party leader.
If everything went smoothly, his members would be more inclined to follow his subsequent orders without questioning them.
Additionally, the more his orders succeeded, the more willing his party members would be to carry them out.
…After swiftly giving out instructions, Shye resumed his usual position, scouting ten meters ahead of the group.
Multiple footsteps echoed across the dark and empty pathways of the Horza Blaidde Mana Dungeon's first floor as the extermination party drew closer to the monstrous creatures' ambush point.
A minute later, Shye walked right between the two void pockets, seemingly oblivious to the impending attack.
This naturally brought an eerie smile to the faces of the two monstrous creatures, which resembled purple slim apes with long limbs, sharp claws, grotesquely wide jaws, and no eyes.
Sending a subtle signal for Rai Hou to prepare his strongest attack, Shye suddenly dashed toward the location of the ape-like void creature on the left.
He then used his skill, [Half-moon Slash], to accurately and forcefully destroy the small, invisible core of the void pocket, revealing the horrifying creature in its entirety, utterly dumbfounded.
Soon after, Walter Glitz, the mage champion, suddenly exclaimed: "Illumina!"
As it turned out, Rai Hou was already in the middle of his incantation, merely waiting for Shye's signal—destroying the void pocket of the creature on the left—to unleash his spell.
A golden sphere swiftly ascended seven meters into the air, casting blindingly bright lights as though it were a small sun.
Its brilliance and majesty dispelled the darkness, illuminating a fifty-meter radius and allowing the entire party to see clearly.
A black shadow net then shot across the ground, creeping as silently as a phantom yet as swiftly as a hunting falcon, targeting the void creature's shadow.
Subsequently, as the ghostly net collided with the void monster's shadow, the creature on the left suddenly stopped moving, as though its limbs were bound by an invisible force.
"Heh, Shadow Capture, complete!" Freeze exclaimed with a satisfied smirk.
"ORAAA, DIE, YOU MALNOURISHED APE!!"
A brutish voice suddenly echoed across the pathways of the dungeon as Dalton, the team's shielder, ferociously charged forth from the creature's left flank, preparing to bash his shield toward its unguarded head.
Unfortunately, it seemed that Dalton wasn't fast enough to reach the creature before it broke free of the shadowy net, which would cause their assault to fail if nothing was done.
"Tch, this incompetent scout! If only his shadow capture was a bit stronger…" Dalton cursed, blaming Freeze's ability instead of his lack of agility.
But then, just when the monstrous creature was about to break free, something exploded behind Dalton, giving him the speed boost he needed.
"Propel!" exclaimed Mira, her voice as gentle as the summer breeze.
"Oh! Thanks for the timely support, Mira!" Dalton said, extremely satisfied with the performance of their priestess. "I shall make you see stars, monster!"
*BONG!* Your next read is at empire
The nauseating yet satisfying sound of solid metal clashing against a skull reverberated and echoed across the now bright pathways.
Soon after, the creature shook its head repeatedly, evidently dazed by the blunt blow
Unfortunately, the creature soon breathed its last, never having fully grasped what was happening as two sharp greatswords cleaved through its neck, causing purple blood to splatter across the ground as a severed head slowly rolled forward.
Witnessing its partner's demise, the other monstrous creature hiding in a void pocket swiftly emerged.
It extended its long, eerie limbs toward Shye, whose back was exposed, attempting to rip him apart with its lethally sharp claws.
Shye sensed the creature's vicious approach.
However, he merely smiled and gracefully brandished his greatswords through the air to remove the purple blood dripping from the blades, completely ignoring the monster's attack.
Mira, ever the worrywart, almost shouted a warning for Shye to be careful.
But before she could say anything, a spinning golden arrow silently flew toward the creature's neck, piercing through and completely severing its purple head from its body.
In the end, the other void creature met the same fate as its comrade, lying lifeless on the ground and twitching in a futile attempt to cling to its remaining life.
Noting how smoothly their operation had gone as the party members watched the twitching corpses, everyone, including Rai Hou, couldn't help but regard Shye as if he were a monster.
