"So, just as the kid guessed, you won't listen—"
Jiro said, a dangerous calm in his voice. "—As a king, you can't just back down. In that case, I'll have to use a little force to keep you here."
As he spoke, Jiro's own aura exploded outwards.
"BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!"
The Emperor's Ring that formed around him didn't just match the Horse King's—it completely eclipsed it. In terms of raw presence, Jiro was in another league entirely.
The two auras clashed, a battle of wills made manifest. The Horse King's was that of an absolute monarch, the undisputed ruler of the Eighth Continent.
Jiro's, however, was something else entirely—it was the untamed, primal fury of a true monster.
This was the aura of the legendary "Rampaging Beast Jiro"—a being raised by Battle Wolves, who had fused with his own Appetite Demon to become something beyond human.
"Hmph!"
Realizing its presence was completely suppressed, the Horse King grew furious.
It took a deep, world-shaking breath, the very air around them seeming to vanish as it was vacuumed into its lungs. Then, with a thunderous snort, ten beams of pure concussive force—its Air Missile—shot out from its nostrils.
This was one of its primary attacks, a blast of compressed air powerful enough to punch a hole through the planet.
But just as the attack was about to hit, Jiro simply swatted it aside with a contemptuous backhand, redirecting the planet-killing blast harmlessly into the cosmos.
"Tearing up your own turf, Heracles?"
Jiro asked, his voice laced with amusement. "A bit careless for a king, don't you think?"
But the Horse King didn't care. To maintain its title as one of the Eight Kings, anything could be sacrificed. It was the ruler—every life on the Eighth Continent existed to serve it.
The collision of man and beast sent shockwaves across the entire continent. Countless creatures stampeded towards the edges of the land, fleeing for their lives.
They knew their king was enraged. They didn't know who was foolish enough to challenge it, but they knew one thing: if they didn't run now, they would be annihilated in the crossfire.
A battle between the Eight Kings could engulf an entire continent. Fleeing only slightly increased their chances of survival, but right now, that was all they had.
....
"It's started... another Emperor's Ring—another cataclysmic clash. I can't even imagine how this will end!"
The people of the Hex Food World could only stare in terror. They had never witnessed a sight like this in their entire lives.
They were human, not monsters. Their lifespans were normal. They were only the way they were because their ancestors had been experimented on by the Blue Nitro—causing the traits of Appetite Demons to manifest in their bloodline.
But in essence, they were human.
Generation after generation had passed, and while the Hex Food World had grown, none had ever seen the Horse King truly fight another powerhouse. After all, what creature would be foolish enough to provoke it?
Not just them, but even their ancestors had rarely seen such a sight. A battle of this magnitude might only happen once in ten thousand years.
....
Meanwhile, in the Human World, the remaining powerhouses also sensed the two colossal auras erupting.
"Looks like it's begun. The Horse King is in for a rough time," President Ichiryu remarked. He knew Heracles was no match for Jiro.
This battle was destined to end in the Horse King's defeat.
....
In the Gourmet World, on the First Continent, the Blue Nitros also sensed the disturbance.
"Is that the Horse King's aura?? And Jiro's? Why are they fighting?" one of them asked, bewildered.
"That's not the point..."
Another interjected, its voice laced with caution. "The point is Jiro's aura. DO YOU SENSE HOW POWERFUL IT IS??"
The sheer scale of his presence was something they couldn't even comprehend. They knew they were no match for the Eight Kings, let alone the Jiro of today.
"Ichiryu, Jiro, and Midora... all three of them are incredibly strong. Acacia warned us about them, but I never imagined they could reach this level without even eating Acacia's Full Course Menu!" another Nitro commented, a hint of fear in its voice.
"What should we do? Should we go investigate? They might be going after AIR."
"No... At this level of strength, if Jiro gets serious, he could crush the Horse King with ease. If we show ourselves, we'll just be his next target. This is a critical time. Of all the ingredients, we only need GOD and CENTER."
The Blue Nitros came to a consensus. They had stockpiles of the other ingredients. There was no need for them to get involved now.
It was best to focus on the task at hand.
And so, the Blue Nitros decided to ignore the events on the Eighth Continent. Joie, having been thoroughly traumatized by his last encounter, wouldn't dare go anywhere near Jiro.
In the original story, Joie had sent Shigematsu and Teppei, but now, he wouldn't even dream of it.
The aura Jiro was currently unleashing was too scary.
The other Eight Kings also wouldn't leave their own territories. They were all watching, waiting to see how this battle would end.
....
Meanwhile, Yuuki and his group had arrived at the location of AIR. The air here was so thick and heavy it felt like moving through water.
But for them, it was a minor inconvenience. Yuuki simply swung his knife, and the oppressive atmosphere was sliced cleanly in two.
"It's not ripe yet, just as I thought. The pressure in this area has suppressed its growth. Dinner, it's up to you. You're in charge of ripening AIR. I'll handle the preparation. The rest of you, stand guard. We'll likely have some uninvited guests soon."
Yuuki commanded.
In the original story, as the delicious aroma of AIR began to spread, it had attracted nearby beasts. These creatures were powerful—and the ones here would be even stronger. After all, the weaker ones had already been scared away by the clash between Jiro and the Horse King.
Hearing Yuuki's words—everyone sprang into action. Yuuki took out a massive pile of ingredients. He had realized that AIR was further from maturity than he'd anticipated—ripening it would require a great deal more food.
Dinner and the others took the ingredients and began using their potions to rapidly infuse them into AIR's roots. Though they were using potions, AIR's absorption speed was still shocking.
....
"It's absorbing so fast! I feel like even without the potions, the roots could suck the essence out of these ingredients in an instant!"
Dinner wiped a bead of sweat from his brow. It was a good thing they hadn't placed their own bodies on the roots—they might have been absorbed as well.
As a massive amount of ingredients was infused—the fruit of AIR began to gradually ripen.
As it ripened, its fragrance naturally began to spread. On Nightmare Hill, Heracles noticed this, and its attacks grew even more ferocious.
The Horse King abruptly changed its fighting style. It stopped using its Air Missile, spun around, and lashed out at Jiro with its hind legs.
This was the Herac Kick. Anyone without sufficient strength would be instantly pulverized. Even those with some power would be sent flying into space.
But this was Jiro. His strength surpassed the Horse King's. The moment Heracles turned, he knew exactly what it was planning.
Jiro had no intention of killing the Horse King—otherwise, the fight would have been over long ago.
As the kick came, he met it head-on, unleashing a punch of his own. The technique was none other than the Big Bang.
"BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!"
The two attacks collided. Instantly, the ground of Nightmare Hill shattered into several pieces. A colossal fissure threatened to tear the entire Eighth Continent in half.
....
"DAMN IT, THE EIGHTH CONTINENT IS ABOUT TO SPLIT APART!"
The group at the Slow Rain Hills felt the terrifying force, but in the next second, a massive power acted upon the land, and the continent, which had been on the verge of being torn asunder, instantly stopped splitting.
This was, of course, Jiro's Grand Knocking, which had directly halted the continent's division.
It was clear that Jiro had come out of that exchange completely unscathed.
As for the Horse King, its situation was much more dire. Its right hind leg was twisted at a bizarre angle. Heracles leg had been broken by Jiro's attack.
However, the Horse King's regenerative ability was very strong. It forcibly twisted its leg back, and soon, it had returned to its normal state. But at this moment, it no longer dared to continue attacking.
It was now completely certain that the human before it could easily kill it. Against any other enemy, the Horse King would never back down. After all, it was the king of the Eighth Continent.
But it now remembered what Jiro had said before. The words of a powerhouse like Jiro were highly credible. And it was also pregnant. So, after realizing it was no match for Jiro, it stopped.
Strictly speaking, this battle was the Horse King's loss. But because they hadn't fought to the end, and Jiro wasn't pressing the issue, the battle had ended mid-way.
This way, the Horse King hadn't technically been defeated, so it wouldn't have to step down from its position as King.
....
The Eight Kings were not allowed to be defeated.
If an Eight King was defeated, no matter how terrifying the opponent, they had to relinquish their position.
The Horse King had almost lost its throne. Of course, for an existence like the Horse King, it didn't really matter if it was a king or not. When it was a king, it would do its duty.
If it wasn't, it wouldn't be afraid of other creatures either. After all, its strength was there for all to see.
And the king of the Eighth Continent had always been chosen from the Phantom Beast Heracles. Because once a healthy baby Horse King was born, it was destined to become the king. The genes of Heracles were very strong.
The reason these Eight King species could continue to exist was because of these terrifying genes. Their innate advantage was so great that unless the Earth nurtured a brand-new species, it would be very difficult for other creatures to catch up.
....
The battle between the Horse King and Jiro was over. They were now in a standoff. On Yuuki's side, after the fruit had ripened, he had heard the voice of the ingredients.
"THE INGREDIENT IS SPEAKING! AS EXPECTED OF CHEF YUUKI, TO BE ABLE TO MAKE EVEN AN INGREDIENT LIKE AIR SPEAK!"
As a fellow chef, Brunch was completely shocked when he saw the golden light emitted by AIR. Komatsu had been amazing before—but he had never expected to see someone even more amazing.
"Brunch, stop spacing out! Hurry up and stop the beasts that are rushing over!"
Mappy, after blasting away a beast, quickly said.
"I know, you don't need to remind me!"
Brunch also released lightning from his body, giving these beasts a round of electrotherapy. With these people here, though the beasts here were much stronger than in the original story, they were still blocked.
At this moment, Yuuki had opened a huge hole in AIR in the blink of an eye.
The true preparation method of AIR was to release the air inside. But you had to do it after AIR had matured, and you had to finish preparing it before it touched the ground.
Otherwise, the essence and deliciousness would be directly absorbed by the ground, and the preparation of AIR would be over.
In the original story, Komatsu had succeeded on one hand because the people of the Hex Food World had helped—and on the other hand, because his Appetite Demon had forcibly awakened and possessed him to complete the final preparation.
Otherwise, Komatsu's preparation was destined to fail.
