Forest Ranger, starting from Picking Up a Lynx Girl

Chapter 425 Midnight Fright_3

While waiting, the group started discussing a recent incident where a Horse Musk Deer died.

The incident eventually traced back to the nearby Musk Farm, and no specific outcomes had been given yet. The police officer couldn't disclose details to unrelated personnel, but mentioned it might have been due to personal reasons during the conversation.

Almost two hours later, Ji Xin arrived at the ranch.

"Wow, you've changed cars, huh."

Seeing Ji Xin getting out of the SUV, Chen Ying went over to greet him and walked around the vehicle.

"I often drive to the reserve, so my family bought this car for me and modified it. It's quite comfortable."

After chatting for a bit, Chen Ying introduced him to the officers, checked his identity, and then the group headed to Mao Cuo's tent.

The hostess, Dong Lin, had already prepared tea, and hurriedly added butter to it before serving it to the guests.

During the conversation, Chen Ying learned the name of Mao Cuo's eldest son. His Tibetan name was long and hard to pronounce, so everyone at home simply called him Nici.

Nici hadn't gone out and was organizing the photos he had taken.

Ji Xin had a couple of mouthfuls of the dish, and without beating around the bush, directly asked Nici to show him the photos he had taken previously.

The two of them talked aside while Chen Ying and others sat for a while before planning to leave.

Ji Xin's car had been modified partly like a camper, making it convenient to sleep in at night.

After ensuring that there were no communication barriers between Ji Xin and Nici, Chen Ying left with the police officers.

He couldn't make it to River Source Emergency Station that night; after all, it was deep autumn, and the nights were very cold, not to mention the weather could change. For safety reasons, Chen Ying stayed overnight in a small town he passed.

The town was small, with houses built along the highway, the tallest being two stories, but most were single-story bungalows. From the decorations on the courtyard doors, it was a typical Tibetan town.

While eating, Chen Ying chatted with the owner, learning that they were herders relocated here.

After moving from their previous ranch, all the cattle and sheep were handed over to a cooperative for centralized farming, and they simply waited each year for their share of the money.

The young herders preferred this lifestyle, whereas the elderly were still accustomed to the nomadic herding life.

"Actually, it's quite convenient and profitable when you think about it, centralized farming scientifically. The government built houses for us, so we don't need to move every season, and the children can focus on their studies. I think it's quite good, but many are reluctant, feeling uneasy not seeing their own livestock."

The owner's mother and two uncles were unwilling to move down and were still living a nomadic life.

It was hard to say who was right or wrong in this matter; everyone had to live their own lives and be content with it.

The owner's house was one of the few two-story buildings in the town. When it was built, he had paid part of the money himself, and later, when running a small hostel, he quickly recouped his investment.

His next plan was to renovate his house into a popular online homestay style, specifically providing accommodation and meals for passing tourists.

Not just the small hostel, but the town's only self-service supermarket was also run by him, using his uncle's house, and paying rent and a share of the profits each year.

His uncle's two children worked out of town, and their families stayed out as well, most likely never returning to their hometown.

In the middle of the night, Chen Ying was suddenly startled by an alarm, and Black Gold, who was sleeping in a paper box by the bed, woke up instantly, emitting a low bellow.

"Black Gold, stop it, let me see what's happening."

Walking to the window and opening a small crack, the cold wind howled in.

Peering out, he saw several people gathered at the neighbor's gate, and someone was fiddling with something with a long bamboo pole.

Closing the window, dressing, and locking Black Gold in the room, Chen Ying went downstairs to ask about the situation.

The landlady stood outside the bar, looking through a glass window at the neighboring house, her face full of worry.

"Is something wrong?"

"Don't go out, guest; it's dangerous out there," the landlady stopped him, "A brown bear entered Ge Sang's sheep pen behind us, killed two sheep, and was discovered while eating them. Ge Sang tried to drive it away, but it jumped the wall and came to our house. It crawled into the storehouse from behind the supermarket, and my husband and neighbors are trying to figure out how to get it out."

"Can you handle it? Brown bears are very fierce. Have you called the police?"

"Yes, yes, those two over there are the on-duty officers, but they can't do anything either. They've called a veterinarian, hoping they can sedate and remove it."

The landlady looked worriedly sick, muttering about how much merchandise might be damaged in the storehouse, and the extent of the loss.

She was also worried about the safety of her husband and the neighbors helping, almost on the verge of tears.

Chen Ying didn't rush to join them; there were enough people over there, and if the veterinarian could sedate the bear, that would be sufficient.

During winter, these incidents occurred more frequently; surely, it wasn't always up to him to intervene.

Looking out the window for a while, he faintly heard talking voices; the bear seemed to have become addicted to eating sausages in the supermarket.

Chen Ying recalled the two brown bears near Ranch Village last year and wondered how they were doing, hoping they wouldn't venture into human settlements searching for food again this year.

Just then, a shout rang out from across the street, and suddenly, the crowd dispersed rapidly, with several herders deftly climbing the wall and running towards the rooftops.

Others slipped into other people's courtyards, barricading the gate.
