Fortunate to Have You This Lifetime

Chapter 693 - 693: Female Judge_1

Chapter 693: Chapter 693: Female Judge_1

Another person who couldn’t sleep that night was Violet Nelson.

She hadn’t expected that Purple Summers would actually take Lindsay Carpenter’s case.

In fact, after returning to Kingsley, Violet’s dislike for Purple had gradually dissipated with time. There was never any deep hatred to begin with, just a chance encounter where Purple rubbed her the wrong way, prompting Violet to want to teach her a lesson.

Afterward, Violet busied herself with her studies and socializing, occasionally attending banquets, and soon forgot all about Purple.

She even thought with a sense of superiority, “Why let the plight of these pathetic ants affect my mood?”

Once Christopher Simonson is successfully elected president, her social status would soar, and the people she’d be expected to mingle with would be the children of political figures from various countries. So, why should she waste her time and energy on someone as insignificant as Purple?

Yet Violet hadn’t expected that Purple would come to Kingsley.

Not only had Purple come, but she’d also taken Lindsay’s case! Truly ignorant of the dangers, to think this was like Clearwater. The Prosecutor’s Office in Kingsley wouldn’t tolerate such behavior from an outsider!

The court hearing was scheduled for the next day, and Violet was considering whether or not to watch Purple embarrass herself.

However, the son of a cabinet minister had been pursuing her lately, inviting her to a concert tomorrow, and Violet didn’t want to break the engagement.

Even though Gavin Graves’s handsomeness and demeanor deeply moved her during her trip to Clearwater, Violet was accustomed to being adored, and to her, Gavin’s behavior seemed too indifferent.

Besides, she enjoyed her current life—exalted and the center of attention. Unless she could enjoy the same prestige in Clearwater, Violet really didn’t wish to marry.

Lying in bed, Violet silently thought, “I don’t need to lift a finger; the Brown Family will take revenge for me.”

The next day, Purple Summers met with Lindsay Carpenter again.

Marcel Jefferson brought a legal intern, and, together with the witness Charlotte Bishop, there were five of them in total.

After introductions, Marcel gave Purple an overview of the current situation, “The Brown Family has hired an established law firm with some renown in Kingsley. They refuse to settle and insist this is extortion.”

Normally, wealthy families faced with such issues would opt for settlement first, to minimize damage to their reputation.

But Lindsay’s accusations indirectly suggested that Leon Brown had a tendency toward abuse.

Out of a need to protect young master Brown’s reputation and not affect future marriage prospects, the Brown family’s lawyers adopted a tough stance, going on the offensive, convinced that Lindsay was distorting facts and committing extortion!

“The judge presiding over this case is a woman who, before becoming a judge, was an active proponent of abolishing the sex industry, and this might work against us,” Marcel said in a low voice, discussing with Purple.

The higher the position a woman holds, the more she has likely encountered gender discrimination and unfairness, leading her to take a deep dislike to women who ‘debase themselves willingly,’ believing that it is those women who make their fight for women’s rights difficult.

Thus, the female judge might harbor prejudice against Lindsay because of her specific profession.

This was unavoidable.

Judges are human, governed by emotions and desires. Even if it were a male judge, there’d be no guarantee he wouldn’t look down on Lindsay.

“Approach it with equanimity; as long as we present a rational and well-substantiated argument, there’s no fear of them overturning the case,” Purple said, “We’ll start by calling witnesses, then present the evidence; even if they want to pick holes, they could probably only question the transactional relationship.”

After finishing her statement, she glanced at Lindsay and asked, “Why are you dressed so plainly today?”

Lindsay was wearing a gray dress suit today, with no makeup, and her curly hair neatly gathered up, looking like a white-collar worker from an office.
