Chapter 10: Blades in the Fractured Night

The air cracked with the clash of steel.

Arueyn moved first—a shadow of motion, his blade flashing like a whisper of death. His foot barely touched the ground before he vanished into a blur, closing the gap in an instant. Kuronami followed, his presence heavier, each step reverberating through the earth with an unrelenting force.

The enemy barely had time to react.

Arueyn's sword sang through the air—a precise, silent arc. First cut, disarm. His blade found its mark, slicing through the opponent's wrist before they could even lift their weapon. A strangled gasp—too slow.

Before the blood could fall, Kuronami was already moving. Heavy steel. Relentless impact. His broadsword came down in a brutal swing, not a cut, but a cleave. A strike meant to break through anything in its way—armor, bone, flesh.

Their enemy staggered, barely dodging. But Arueyn was already there.

Step-in. Twist. Redirect.

He rotated his body mid-motion, flicking his wrist, and his blade shifted angles—a feint into a killing stroke. The enemy twisted away from the tip just in time to meet Kuronami's crushing pommel strike to the ribs. The force sent them skidding across the ground, a sharp wheeze escaping their lips as something inside them cracked.

No pause. No mercy.

Arueyn surged forward, a dance of death. His footwork was a ghost's whisper, his blade an extension of will. A downward slash—parried. He twisted, catching the enemy's counterattack with the flat of his blade, letting their momentum carry them forward—

Straight into Kuronami's upward cleave.

Steel bit into flesh. The enemy choked on a breath, staggered—but Arueyn wasn't done.

Step-in. Blade reversal. A diagonal cut.

His sword found the neck.

A final arc of blood traced through the air before silence fell.

The body collapsed.

Kuronami exhaled, the weight of battle shifting off his shoulders. "Hmph. That was over quick."

Arueyn flicked the blood off his sword in a clean motion, his golden eyes unreadable. "They never had a chance."

The night settled once more, but their blades still hummed with the echoes of their dance.
