Game of Thrones: Power of Magic

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: The Greatest City

Qarth. The greatest city that ever was or will be.

Or so they claim, but looking upon the three massive walls of the Qarth, each rising dozens of metres from the ground and depicting scenes of wild animals, great wars and passionate love making, Jafaar had to admit that the city lived up to the name of being one of the greatest he had ever seen.

Their arrival in Qarth had been a celebration, they had been welcomed by guards dressed in copper scale armour riding on camels while musicians played great horns and children showering them in petals as rows of Qartheen men and women lined to see them enter.

Looking at the splendour and the display of wealth, Jafaar who had spent his life as a spoiled son of a rich nobel, felt inferior, 'I wonder how out of place they feel if I am feeling like this.' he mused as he watched the dothraki walk stiffly, their eyes roaming everywhere and drooling at both the fair maids and the dazzling treasures that were close enough to touch but not enough to take.

Ahead of him, Dany rode her silver mare and on her sides, a pale-faced warlock named Pyat Pree, who occasionally glanced back at Jafaar in confusion, and a bald man with gold flakes and a ruby encrusted nose.

After the two Qartheen had both made their offers to Dany and left, Jafaar took his leave of Dany and her group as well, "I thank you for your favor and company during this journey. We should part here, I will find my own way. But before I leave, a word of advice for you, if you please Khaleesi."

Dany nodded, telling him to continue, "Ofcourse, your advice is most welcomed, Magus." She was conflicted about the man; her ill fated encounters with the maegi Mirri Maz Duur had left a sour taste in her mouth for magic. However she couldn't deny that ifit had not been for Jafaar, many of her Khalasaar would be dead.

The man shared her distaste for maegi and blood sorcery and it was true that his magic was warm and life-giving, like the winter sun.

"I pray you would do more than just listen when I say: Leave. You will not find any allies nor friends here, Khaleesi. Farewell. Ser Jorah." he nodded at them, a courtesy both of them returned as he left them.

He had decided to let them fend for themselves until the incident in the House of The Undying occurs. He needed time to recover and had no intention of dealing with the gold scaled serpents that would soon flock to Dany and her dragon. But most importantly, 'It's best if I stay away from any magic users until I am strong enough… Don't want to get on the radar of the Undying Zombies just yet.'

He made his way through the city until he found an affordable inn. He went up to his room, it was spacious enough to hold a large bed with soft beddings and duck feather silk pillows, a large window that showed a distant view of the docks where Jafaar could see countless ships, an ornate wooden table at one side of the room with a few equally expensive looking chairs. There was even a cupboard and a bathtub separated from the rest of the room with a wooden divider.

Jafaar took a bath and changed his rags for a set of red cotton dress robes with gold embroidery, he had them purchased by the staff at the inn for a pretty coin.

He lay down on the soft bed, it seemed uncomfortable to be seated on something so soft after having spent weeks sleeping on the hard earth. 'Status'

[Name: Jafaar zo Azar

Age: 16

Level: Apprentice

MP: 6

MP Regen: 3MP/Day

Influence Points: 12

Spells: Create Magic Item/ Magic Bullet/ Magic Shield/ Cure Illness/ Mend Wounds]

He had purchased both of the healing spells and still had 12 points to spare. He needed the spells to heal the injured and the sick in the khalasar, having used his magic on at least half of them in the last few days.

He had finally gained the Level of 'Apprentice' after he purchased his 5th spell. This had unlocked another Spell option in the purchase list that he hadn't the time to explore till now:

[FAMILIAR MAGIC:

Summon Familiar: Summon a non-magical creature to do your bidding.Sense Share: Share your familiar's senses to keep a watchful eye on your enemies and allies alike.Agent: Empower your familiar with your magic, allowing it to cast spells at the expense of your MP.]

'This seems rather useful… But my points are still far too low…' he wanted to save a few points in case of emergencies, he had learned his lesson in the Red Waste where he nearly died of thirst.

Getting a familiar was useful no doubt, he now had spells for defense, attack and healing. His main concern was his very low MP, 'It doesn't matter how many spells I have if I can't cast them when needed.'

After some thought he decided to spend them like this:

[You have Purchased:

MPx2Summon Familiar

TOTAL= 9 Influence Points

Remaining Influence Points= 3]

He immediately used the new spell and a jet black orb slowly materialised in thin air above him and slowly grew to the size of a football before unraveling into the shape of an eagle. The eagle beat its massive wings, sending a gust of air towards Jafaar before it landed softly on the bed.

The eagle was about 20 inches in length, nearly a meter and half wide when it unfurled its wings, with dark brown feathers and a yellow beak with a black tip. It looked at Jafaar and tilted its head in curiosity.

Jafaar petted its soft feathers as it leaned into his touch. He could feel an indescribable connection with it, as if they could understand each other's thoughts without needing to speak.

Jafaar got up from the bed and opened the seaward window, a cool breeze ruffling up his red locks, "Keep a weather eye on our precious dragon queen will you, we may yet need to rescue her from her troubles."

The eagle jumped from his arm to the window sill before flapping its powerful wings and flying away into the starlit sky.

As the days passed, there was a shift in the city, murmurs of magic and dragons, whispers of fire and blood. Magic was reborn in this world when dragons let out their first screechs and every sorcerer from the Wall to the shadowlands of Ashaii felt it reawakened.

Jafaar roamed the famed bazaars of Qarth, everything under the sun could be found here; from jewels and jades to spices and slaves. And now there was talk of something else, a great power, power to reshape the world, there was talk of dragons!

*Screech*

A sharp cry filtered into his ears as he looked up. An eagle soaring high in the sky, a lone brown kite amidst the endless blue.

'About time.' a smile bloomed on his face as he cut through the crowd around him. His loose green robes flowing around him, embroidered with gold and beaded with rubies as red as blood.

He walked towards the forest of black trees and blue leaves; the House of the Undying.
