Two Day Later

(Random POV)

My name, it is not important. I am an orphan. My parents are no longer in this world. Their life had been a tragedy. I had a guardian once, but he too passed away four years ago. And I have spent the last four years of my life alone. Where? In Braavos.

Thanks to my guardian, I became a well-educated person. He had arranged for me to learn several different languages, some arithmetic, and even a bit of economics.

I do not know how, most probably, he might have pulled a few strings but after his death, I managed to secure a job at the prestigious Iron Bank.

A girl living alone in Braavos could have been in great danger.

But thanks to the name of the Iron Bank, and the fact that I was one of its employees, the risks were greatly reduced.

Not that the Iron Bank would go to war for me. I was only a clerk in their vast institution but its name alone was enough to deter most thugs and bandits.

I would not say that I never faced any problems or harassment in my life. There were many powerful people, even within the Bank itself who were always pushing their boundaries with me.

But thankfully, I had been able to hold them off, at least until now. How much longer could I have managed? I did not know.

But it did not matter anymore. I was leaving Braavos. It was a reckless thing to do.

A single girl setting out on a journey to a place she had never been.

Most likely, I would never make it. Most likely, I would be killed or worse, captured and sold into prostitution.

But there was something that almost compelled me to take this journey. Something I could not put my finger on but cannot ignore at the same time.

It all started two days ago. A strange sense of unease and anxiety began to bubble inside me like something immense and significant was about to happen.

That night, it had been nearly impossible to sleep. But somehow, I forced myself into slumber or perhaps something pulled me into it.

I had a dream. Dreams are common, but this one was not. For in the dream, I was standing very close to a man. His face was not clear, but I knew, somehow, that he was handsome. And powerful. I was certain of it.

He was holding me by the waist while I leaned against his chest. A romantic moment if I may say.

But then the scope of the dream expanded, and the full scene came into view.

The two of us were soaring through the sky. On a dragon. A pitch black and obsidian scaled dragon. A dragon. Creatures that had not been seen in decades.

Whether it was the dream, the dragon, or the man himself, I do not know. But something was calling me. Calling me somewhere.

My heart stirred violently as I snapped out of sleep. My entire body was drenched in cold sweat when I woke up.

I did not know what was happening. What was the purpose of the dream? What did it mean? Was it just a simple dream? No. It could not be.

A dragon in a dream was not something ordinary. And my instincts were flaring at me.

With my heart pounding, I took a few steps and walked out onto the balcony, hoping the fresh air would calm my raging nerves.

It was a small house in which in lived in. It was a house my guardian had purchased years ago when we had first arrived in Braavos.

But what I saw made my chest tighten even more. My eyes widened in surprise as I stared toward the horizon. I could not believe me or my eyes as I rubbed them.

A red comet.

A dragon in my dream.

A red comet before my eyes.

Nothing made sense, and yet somehow everything was starting to make sense. Dragons had reappeared in the world. But who could have accomplished such a thing?

There were only the Targaryen she knew of, the beggar king and his sister. But the idea of Viserys ever hatching a dragon was absurd. Maybe Daenerys?

But no, she knew, deep down, that it was not them. That mysterious man. Who was he? And why had she been with him? Her heart was left in turmoil by all these thoughts.

The night passed by with my mind still racing. I reported for work at the Bank, but I could hardly concentrate.

It was in the afternoon when the news arrived. Meereen and Yunkai had fallen. Lord Aeos had taken over two more cities.

As the world's largest bank, the Iron Bank maintained a powerful news network, and thus we were always the first to receive any such reports.

We had known that Lord Aeos' army had marched from Astapor and was preparing to attack the two cities.

The Iron Bank had been keeping a close eye on Lord Aeos. His presence was not being taken lightly by the bank. Perhaps it was because he was disturbing the balance of power, which unsettled the higher ups of the bank.

Or perhaps it was because, despite amassing so much gold, he had yet to open any account with them. Or because he did not require a loan to fund his campaign.

I did not know what had come over me, but in that moment, I knew I had to go.

Not to Astapor. Not to Yunkai. But to Meereen, where Lord Aeos himself was.

Was he the one who had hatched the dragon? Impossible.

But my heart refused to listen. It felt as if I were being pulled by an unseen, unnatural force being dragged toward something I could neither name nor resist.

And thus, here I was, at the port of Braavos with the titan looming over me. I did not even know if I could find a ship sailing to Meereen.

Merchants and traders usually avoided turbulent places, after all.

All I could do was search and perhaps wait.

This was going to be dangerous, but I had to go. I had to find Lord Aeos.

What I would do once I met him? I had no idea. But it did not matter.
