Chapter 6: Quest And Amber
Aether and Paimon continued their journey, unlike before when they used the Anemo Element to speed up their travels. This time, they traveled leisurely, as even though they arrived early in Mondstadt, there was nothing else they needed to do besides sightseeing.
Although they had promised to meet Venti in Mondstadt after he obtained the Tears of Dvalin's Crystal, Venti's task wouldn't be completed in an instant. It would take him some time to do that. Besides, their main goal for traveling to Mondstadt was to search for the Anemo Archon, Barbatos. But now that they had met him, there was no need to do that anymore, even though Paimon still hadn't realized Venti's true identity.
Moreover, a Quest had appeared with the following details:
[Barbatos, Dvalin, and Mondstadt]
[Dvalin, one of Mondstadt's wind guardians, has lost part of his sanity due to poison infused with Abyssal energy.]
[Because of this, he began attacking Mondstadt, the city he once protected. The people of Mondstadt, who were unaware of Dvalin, began to view him as a dangerous monster that must be eradicated.]
[Barbatos, hearing of the chaos, awoke from his slumber. After understanding the cause and effect, he began searching for a way to cure Dvalin.]
[Quest: Help Barbatos cure Dvalin from his poisoning and restore Dvalin's reputation in Mondstadt.]
[Rewards: Hero's Wit 10x, Agnidus Agate Gemstone 5x, Vayuda Turquoise Gemstone 5x, Vajrada Amethyst Gemstone 5x, Vajrada Amethyst Gemstone 5x]
When he saw the rewards given by the system, he immediately concluded that all of these rewards were very luxurious. Forget about the Hero's Wit since its use is clearly to increase experience.
And because Hero's Wit appeared as a reward, its existence was surely present in this world. As for how to obtain it, that thought could wait for later.
As for the Gemstones, they were something different and special. In the game, Gemstones are used to increase the character's level cap to 81-90, meaning it's the domain of gods and their guardians.
This meant that if he gave these to someone approaching level 80, it wouldn't be long before another strong person appeared in the world.
He didn't know how many Gemstones were needed to break through that limit. Would it be the same as in the game, requiring 6 Gemstones, or not?
If 6 were needed, would the Gemstones be enough?
And don't forget the 10x buff he had, meaning he would have 50 of each type of Gemstone.
The types of Gemstones obtained from this quest, whether by coincidence or not, had an elemental similarity to the elements of the higher-ups of Mondstadt, known in the game:
Varka, Diluc, Jean, Lisa, Kaeya, and Eula.
Forget about Varka, he didn't know if that man had appeared in versions beyond 5.1, because in version 5.0 there was no official introduction to that character yet, and he was only mentioned.
How did he know that Varka wouldn't appear in Sumeru until Natlan? Because he had checked all the Mondstadt character information on the Genshin Impact Wikipedia.
He had also checked information about Liyue and some characters from Inazuma. As for Sumeru, Fontaine, and Natlan, he hadn't looked into them at all.
Two hours later, Aether and Paimon finally reached the exit of Whispering Woods. As they stepped out of the forest, suddenly, a voice rang out from the cliffs surrounding the forest.
'Hey, you there, stop for a moment!'
The sound of footsteps running could then be heard, and the person leapt down from the not-so-high cliff, landing a few meters from them.
The person who jumped down was a girl who appeared to be around 18 years old or older. She had black hair with a red ribbon accessory shaped like bunny ears on her head.
She wore a red jumper and dark red shorts, along with red stockings and white boots. On her waist was a belt with a leather pouch, and a round glass orb adorned with a winged fruit design. The orb was red, and it was a Vision with the Pyro Element.
This girl was none other than Amber, a character from Genshin Impact. Aether had sensed her presence 100 meters before exiting the Whispering Woods.
He didn't take another path or stop to avoid her because, in his opinion, meeting Amber was necessary.
Although Mondstadt was known as the City of Freedom, it didn't mean he could easily enter the city. Remember, this world was on Hard mode, and everything would proceed according to reality.
At this moment, he had no form of identification. Meeting and getting to know Amber would allow him to enter the city easily and give him the opportunity to meet and become acquainted with the higher-ups of the Knights of Favonius.
'May the Anemo Archon bless you, stranger.'
'I'm Amber, an Outrider of the Knights of Favonius.'
'Your clothes don't look like they're from Mondstadt or Liyue. Could you explain who you are and why you're coming out of the Whispering Woods?'
'We're not suspicious people,' Paimon said.
'That's usually what suspicious people say.'
'I'm Aether, nice to meet you, Amber the Outrider of the Knights of Favonius.'
'You don't have to call me by my full title, just Amber is fine.'
'And the name Traveler doesn't sound like a local name to me.'
'Then what about this floating creature? Umm, a mascot?'
'Hey, Paimon isn't a floating creature or a mascot, Paimon is Paimon.'
'Actually, Paimon was originally emergency food, but now she's my companion,' Aether said.
'Traveler, did you actually consider Paimon as emergency food?!'
'That's even worse than being a mascot!'
Seeing the two of them joke like this, Amber could tell that the relationship between them was undoubtedly very close.
'Alright, I understand, you're traveling companions, right?' Amber asked.
'Yes.'
'Well, have you heard? Recently, there have been sightings of a large dragon around Mondstadt. I recommend you head to the city right away.'
Upon hearing Amber mention a dragon, Aether and Paimon exchanged glances.
Aether slightly shook his head at Paimon, signaling her not to mention Dvalin. Paimon nodded in response, understanding his meaning.
Amber didn't notice their small gestures and continued talking.
'But because you both seem a bit suspicious, I'll have to keep an eye on you. Sorry if my actions seem inappropriate toward guests.'
'I understand. After all, traveling with a floating creature like Paimon, who is rarely seen, would surely raise suspicions from others.'
'Hey, Traveler, Paimon isn't suspicious!'
'Haha, you two are so funny.'
'Well then, follow me. After I finish my business, I'll take you to Mondstadt.'
'Is it okay? What if our presence delays your business?' Paimon asked.
'Yeah, we can wait here. For the honor of being a man, I promise not to run away.'
'It's fine for you to follow me, I can still keep you safe.'
'Well, if you say so.'
And so the three of them went together to the place Amber was heading.
'So, Traveler, do you have any particular reason for coming to Mondstadt?'
'Actually, the Traveler has lost his sister during a very, very long journey,' Paimon replied.
'During the journey to search for his sister, we met. Then Paimon decided to follow the Traveler to help him find his lost sister.'
'Looking for a family member, huh.'
'....'
'Alright, once I finish my business, I'll help you by making a poster and spreading it around the city.'
'Why suddenly?' Aether asked.
'Because I understand how you feel,' Amber replied.
Paimon wanted to ask more, but Aether stopped her. He felt it wasn't the right time to ask, as they had just met.
'Then let's finish my business quickly.'
'What kind of business do you need to finish, Amber?'
'You'll know soon enough. We're almost there.'
'As they approached the rocky slope of the mountain, they saw Hilichurls wandering around.
'Ah, Hilichurls!' Paimon shouted.
'Monsters like Hilichurls have been showing up around the outskirts of the city lately. It's my task to investigate them, and I've already found their camp.'
'So, we just need to clear them out.'
'Won't you ask for help from the other Knights?' Aether asked.
'No need. The camp isn't too large, so I can handle it myself.'
'But if you're capable of fighting, would you help me?'
'Alright.'
'Hehehe, Amber, just so you know, the Traveler is very strong,' Paimon said.
'Oooh, then let's see how strong our honored Traveler is,' Amber said, then took out her bow and arrows from her Vision.
Amber then shot an arrow toward the Hilichurls, hitting its mask, which cracked and created a small hole in it.
This made the Hilichurls shocked and angry, shocked at being attacked and angry that her mask was broken. The Hilichurls then ran towards Amber and intended to retaliate.
But how could Amber let it go, she once again attacked the Hilichurls using her bow. But this time was different, at the tip of the arrow had accumulated the Pyro Element.
The Pyro Elemental arrow then flew in the same direction again, namely Hilichurls' mask or rather the hole in his mask.
The arrow then pierced his head, but strangely there was no blood coming out of Hilichurls' head. Then the pyro element directly burned Hilichurls' body and made it into particles in the air.
Seeing this Aether raised her eyebrows slightly, not because of the way Amber killed him. But because the moment Hilichurls died and became particles in the air, some kind of energy entered Amber's body.
'Is that Exp?' he thought
'Come on, while the Hilichurls in the camp haven't woken up yet. We'll attack them first.' Amber said.
The two nodded, then they resumed walking and stopped about ten meters away from the campsite. There were about five Hilichurls in the campsite.
Three Hilichurls who were holding wooden sticks and were wandering around the campsite. Two Hilichurls were standing on a wooden tower that was three meters tall, and both were holding crossbow weapons in their hands.
'Do you have a plan Amber?' Aether asked.
'Well my plan is just to attack them from a distance, I'm an archer after all.'
'Then let's follow my plan and we'll take them all out in one attack.'
'How?
'Wait for my signal and then just shoot Pyro arrows at the camp, no need to shoot at the Hilichurls.
'Alright.'
Amber didn't ask too many questions, and then began to collect pyro elements in her arrows.
Aether then took out one of her weapons as well, this time taking out a sword that had a slightly curved blade with a black hilt along with a golden dome-shaped guard.
The sword in his hand was different from the Traveler's original sword seen in the game, the reason was that the sword model was too small for him to use.
He also began to collect Anemo elements on his sword, and when he felt he had enough. He said to Amber.
'Now!'
Amber then released the Pyro Arrow from her bow and Aether swung her sword with the Anemo element at Amber's arrow.
The Pyro Arrow that flew towards the Hilichurls' camp suddenly transformed into a three-meter giant flaming arrow as it mixed with Aether's Anemo Elemental attack.
The appearance of the giant fire arrow made the Hilichurls scream in shock, but except for screaming there was nothing they could do. Because the five Hilichurls had been burned and became particles in the air.
The energy in the air then entered Aether and Amber's bodies, and sure enough that energy was the Exp to level up.
But the amount of Exp he gained was very little, he still hadn't even broken Level 55 and to become level 56 who knew how many Hilichurls he had to kill.
In conclusion, killing monsters like Hilichurls to level up is not recommended. Because the effort was not worth the result.
'You feel it, don't you?' Amber suddenly asked.
No need to ask further, Aether immediately understood what Amber was talking about. Because the system had previously told her.
[Every living being who has reached level 36 will realize their level]
And it just so happened that Amber's level was 54 exactly the same as his level, but the stats of the two of them were very much different and this was Amber's status.
[Name : Amber]
[Level: 54]
[HP: 13,135]
[Attack: 1093]
[Def: 173]
[Dex: 248]
[Elemental Mastery: 330]
[Stamina: 110]
[Relationship: 7] (Level 1-10)
[She has a very good impression of you; if you ask, she might tell you some of her secrets.]
The reason is that Amber does not have a physique like his, one that can absorb all kinds of energy. Additionally, there is also the existence of a system that plays a significant role in her growth.
Also, it seems that something new has been added to the status screen. Since it's not the right time, it's better to look at it later.
'Yes.'
'Although it's not much, this is one of the reasons why the Knights of Favonius always clear the Hilichurl camps.'
'The other reason is that if the Hilichurls are not wiped out after they appear, they will grow stronger and become even more dangerous.'
'If you always wipe them out, why do they keep appearing again?' Paimon asked.
At first, she didn't understand what Amber and Traveler meant by something they seemed to be sensing, but then the conversation shifted back to the Hilichurls, and she became quite curious about that.
'I don't really understand either, but it's likely connected to the Ley Line. Are you curious, Paimon?'
'Yes.'
'Maybe Lisa can help answer your question, Paimon.'
'Lisa?'
'Lisa is also a member of the Knights of Favonius and the keeper of the library. She must know many things that I don't.'
'Lisa, okay. Paimon will remember that.'
'Ley Line, huh?' Aether thought.
He had actually seen information about that on the Genshin Impact Wikipedia, but since all the information about Ley Lines was filled with spoilers, he eventually stopped reading it after a while. What he knew about the Ley Line was that it was a form of energy that connects all of Teyvat.
Sometimes there would be Ley Line leaks known as Ley Line Blossoms, which come in two different types: Blossom of Revelation and Blossom of Wealth.
In the game, collecting rewards from the Ley Line Blossom requires Original Resin. But in this world, it's unknown if the process would be the same.
And if it is, where does the Original Resin come from, and how does one acquire it? Because in the game, Resin accumulates over time.
'The more there is to find out,' Aether thought.
'Alright, since my business here is done, let's head back to Mondstadt City.'
'Yes.'
