Chapter 99: The Village Under Attack
Upon hearing this, Mu Yang realized it had finally come.
Though he had mentally prepared himself, the news still caught him off guard.
He quickly pressed for details.
Moon Carver said, "Allow me to perform another divination."
With that, he stood up and reverted to his old stag form, beginning the ritual of divination.
Mu Yang, of course, couldn't understand any of it and could only wait anxiously.
The trio was also on edge.
Since this concerned Chenyu Vale, the stakes were high.
Everyone fell silent, waiting for Moon Carver's divination results.
Once the ritual was complete, Moon Carver shared his findings.
The divination did not appear overly pessimistic, judging by his tone.
This was not a hopeless situation—there would be a turning point in the unseen threads of fate.
However, Moon Carver could not discern the true form of this "turning point."
Mu Yang pondered for a moment. Could it be that the deity of Chenyu Vale is finally making her appearance?
But that deity had been benevolent throughout the early and middle stages of the Archon War.
The trio had even willingly referred to her as their "lord," proving she couldn't be the "calamity" Moon Carver spoke of.
That meant she could only be the "turning point."
Yaojun noticed Mu Yang deep in thought and asked, "Have you figured something out?"
"I might have an idea about the 'turning point,' but as for the 'calamity'..."
Mu Yang shook his head helplessly. "No clue at all."
Moon Carver revealed a bit more.
It was related to the largest village in Chenyu Vale.
Beyond that, he could say no more—this was a karmic burden he could not bear.
"Thanks, Moon Carver."
Mu Yang expressed his gratitude.
Moon Carver waved it off.
"It seems your journey will have to be postponed."
For Fujin and Yaojun, a small trip was nothing.
The two of them had formed deep bonds with the humans in that village.
Even before setting off on this journey, they had made thorough preparations, ensuring everything in the village was settled before leaving.
Now that they knew the village might be in danger, the two could no longer hold back.
Fujin's face was full of worry. "Mu Yang, let's go back now."
She looked at him. "You're faster—take Yaojun and me back first..."
Understanding her urgency, Mu Yang nodded in agreement.
Cloud Retainer spoke up, "In that case, we shall accompany you as well."
The other adepti also nodded. "Very well. We have no other matters to attend to at the moment."
Cloud Retainer affectionately patted little Ganyu's head.
"Ganyu, we'll leave the house to you."
Little Ganyu was very sensible.
She knew this was not something she could participate in yet.
She nodded obediently. "Mm."
Cloud Retainer then released another mechanical bird, sending it to the Guili Assembly to deliver a message.
Better safe than sorry.
She felt it necessary to inform Morax and Guizhong, just in case.
That way, they could support each other if needed.
After completing these preparations, Cloud Retainer finally took flight.
Meanwhile, Mu Yang's group had already set off.
Mu Yang was now holding a teacup in one hand, racing back to the village in Chenyu Vale at full speed.
Inside the teacup realm were Fujin and Yaojun.
The two were slower and couldn't keep up with Mu Yang and the adepti, so this was their means of travel.
Fujin poked her head out from the teacup—she was the most anxious of them all.
She loved this land too much, loved the humans in that village too deeply.
The largest village in Chenyu Vale was located near Ancient Tea Tree Slope.
This land had been won by Fujin from Lingyuan and later given to humans to settle.
The terrain here was relatively low, close to water sources, making life more convenient.
"What's that?"
Fujin seemed to spot something.
Lingyuan was pushing herself to keep pace with Mu Yang.
"Looks like beasts..." Her vision was sharper, and she was more familiar with wild animals.
Mu Yang also saw a small herd, seemingly migrating.
It wasn't clear what was happening yet.
But this could very well be a sign of what was to come.
Mu Yang knew that ancient Liyue was plagued by disasters—earthquakes, droughts, and other natural calamities were frequent.
"I'll go ask," Lingyuan said.
"Mm."
As soon as Mu Yang responded, he suddenly sensed a monstrous aura—coming from the direction of the village.
This is bad. But he was already moving at his fastest speed.
"Mu Yang, use this."
A surge of Anemo energy enveloped him, making his steps lighter.
His speed increased.
Clearly, Cloud Retainer and the others had also sensed the demonic presence and were now aiding him with speed-enhancing talismans.
When Mu Yang reached the village entrance, a deafening explosion shattered the once peaceful atmosphere.
"BOOM—!"
The village's protective fence suddenly collapsed, followed by thick smoke and flames...
And then came the villagers' screams.
Fujin and Yaojun quickly emerged from the teacup realm.
The trio exchanged glances and nodded.
Their tacit understanding needed no further words.
Fujin took charge of evacuating the people.
Yaojun focused on search-and-rescue and providing medical aid.
As for Mu Yang—he was the combatant, tasked with eliminating the demonic beast responsible for this as swiftly as possible.
Mu Yang rushed toward the source of the explosion.
Finding the beast was far too easy.
Because it wasn't even trying to hide.
Even if it had wanted to, it couldn't have.
After absorbing the surrounding flames, its body gradually grew larger.
"Isn't that a Geovishap? Since when do Geovishaps have the ability to grow like this?"
"No—now's not the time to think about that..."
The fire-absorbed Geovishap blazed all over as it curled into a ball.
Then, it leaped high into the air, preparing to deliver a crushing blow from above.
Its target was the nearest farmhouse—
The very same one where Fujin had given her final instructions this morning.
"DAMN IT—!"
Mu Yang stepped onto the roof tiles, reaching the farmhouse in just two strides.
With a powerful push-off, he raised his sword and charged upward to clash against the Geovishap's "Buddha's Palm Strike."
This was a confrontation of ice against fire.
Yet, despite the Geovishap's attack—amplified by its sheer weight and momentum—
Mu Yang didn't yield even an inch.
He parried its claws with his blade.
Then, with a graceful spinning kick, he sent the Geovishap flying out of the village.
Landing back on the roof, he flipped down into the courtyard.
Inside the house were the same children from this morning.
The explosion had been too sudden—the kids hadn't even had time to react.
Had Mu Yang and the others been even a moment later, these six children would have perished in the flames alongside the farmhouse...
"Brother Mu Yang?! It's Brother Mu Yang!"
Mu Yang led the children outside, instructing them to follow the adults and find Fujin.
Only after ensuring their safety did he turn his attention back to the demonic Geovishap.
