Genshin Impact: I'm a Slime

Chapter 15: Chapter 15

"So, Famas, you're saying that guy named Venti can solve the Stormterror crisis?"

Lumine and Paimon had just returned from the Knights of Favonius headquarters. On their way, they had encountered some Fatui agents who were pressuring Acting Grand Master Jean. According to these diplomats from Snezhnaya, if Mondstadt couldn't handle the Stormterror problem on its own, the Fatui would be happy to "deal with the beast" on their behalf.

"You want to handle one of the Four Winds of Mondstadt? I don't want to hear such madness in front of the Knights of Favonius."

This was the first time Lumine and Paimon had seen Jean speak so sternly. After rejecting the Fatui envoy, Jean rubbed her temples and dismissed everyone from her office, leaving Lumine and Paimon no choice but to leave with concern.

"Yes, so we need to find a way to… retrieve the Holy Lyre der Himmel from the basement of the Favonius Cathedral."

Famas deliberately drew out the word "retrieve."

"Famas, you don't mean to retrieve it… properly, do you?"

Paimon immediately caught on to Famas's implication.

Lumine was still confused, so Paimon added, "We could tell Acting Grand Master Jean and have her lend us the Holy Lyre."

"But how do we convince Jean to trust a bard named Venti and lend us the Holy Lyre, which was once held by the Anemo Archon?"

"That's Mondstadt's greatest treasure."

Famas waved his little Slime arms up and down.

"That's true…"

Paimon spun in the air, looking worried.

Meanwhile, Lumine finally caught on. "So, we're going to steal the Holy Lyre?"

"Yes," Paimon and Famas nodded in unison.

"Can that guy Venti really calm Dvalin?"

Lumine couldn't help but feel uneasy. It wasn't that she didn't trust Famas, but according to him, the green-clad guy they had met in the forest that day was Venti.

"Let's go check out the Favonius Cathedral first."

Paimon suggested.

The three looked out the window at the setting sun and hurriedly left the inn.

Arriving at the Windrise Plaza, they looked around. In the center of the plaza stood a massive statue of the Anemo Archon, its hands outstretched as if holding something. At the base of the statue, a green-clad figure was intently playing a tune.

"Hey! That's Venti, right?"

Paimon glanced at Famas, then at Venti, who was surrounded by a crowd.

"That's definitely the guy who appeared with Stormterror that day."

The three moved closer, listening to Venti's performance until it ended and the crowd dispersed.

Venti, who had spotted them earlier, noticed Famas on Lumine's shoulder. Famas waved his little arm, signaling Venti not to reveal his identity.

"Hey, the mighty God of War is afraid of being recognized, huh?"

Venti smirked at the three. "Could it be that you've taken a liking to this outlander traveler?"

Paimon flew up and slapped Venti on the shoulder, snapping him out of his thoughts.

"Hey, you're the one Famas mentioned… Venti, right?"

"To be precise, I'm Venti, the three-time consecutive winner of 'Mondstadt's Most Beloved Bard.'"

"Good afternoon, enthusiastic citizens of Mondstadt."

Venti greeted them warmly.

"Can you really stop the disaster in Mondstadt?"

Ignoring Venti's self-praise, Lumine immediately asked the most important question.

"Huh? Disaster?"

Venti glanced at Famas. What had this guy told Lumine?

"Yes, if we can get the Holy Lyre, I can awaken Dvalin from its nightmare and restore its true nature."

Fortunately, Venti quickly caught on and nodded.

"I'm the best bard in the world. Past, present, and future—there's no song I don't know. Look into my eyes. Don't I seem trustworthy?"

"Compared to you, we trust Famas more."

Paimon eyed the bard suspiciously as he tried to look cute.

"Ehe, let's head to the Favonius Cathedral first!"

Lumine, Paimon, and Famas followed Venti from Windrise Plaza up to the entrance of the Favonius Cathedral.

The Favonius Cathedral was an imposing structure, with a main entrance, two side doors, a bell tower, two spires, countless smaller towers, and flying buttresses. Its layout formed a Latin cross, with numerous small spires surrounding the two main towers like stars around a king.

"I heard the Favonius Cathedral was built by the Anemo Archon and humans together. Truly befitting of Lord Barbatos, who scattered the snowstorms!"

Paimon marveled at the cathedral, which was nearly half the size of Mondstadt. Unbeknownst to her, the Anemo Archon she was praising was standing right beside her.

"Ehe, thank you!"

Venti responded politely to Paimon's praise.

"Bard, what are you talking about? I was praising Lord Barbatos, not you!"

Paimon pouted, hands on her hips, scolding the smug-looking Venti.

Famas sighed. Was it really a good idea to ask Barbatos for help with the Vision?

The group entered the Favonius Cathedral. As soon as Venti stepped onto the cathedral floor, the majestic sound of a pipe organ filled the air, as if welcoming the long-absent Anemo Archon. The nuns stood in the nave, hands clasped in prayer, listening to the wind with their hearts.

The group's presence didn't disturb the praying nuns.

"Hello, Sister."

Venti greeted a nun with a smile, subtly gesturing to Lumine and Famas where the basement entrance was.

"May the Anemo Archon bless you, young bard. How can I help you?"

"Actually, I know a secret that can save Mondstadt from its current crisis."

"Oh? That's truly a blessing from the Anemo Archon. But you should report this to the Knights of Favonius. What can a humble nun like me do to help?"

"Ahaha, Sister, there is something you can help with."

Venti scratched the back of his head, seemingly searching for the right words.

"For example… the Holy Lyre der Himmel. With its power, I can calm Stormterror…"

"Please leave."

The nun cut Venti off without hesitation.

"Huh?"

"Though that dragon is fierce, as long as the Acting Grand Master is determined, there's no reason it can't be dealt with."

"But that would mean Stormterror would die, right?"

The nun in black prayer robes gave the bard a strange look. "A beast that has turned against the East Wind—even if the Anemo Archon himself were to descend, he wouldn't easily forgive it!"

"Ah…? Is that so? Uh… Sister…"

Venti was clearly shocked by the nun's words. Dvalin, the Dragon of the East, who had protected Mondstadt for a thousand years, was now being called a beast?

"No means no, little bard."

With that, the nun turned away.

"If there's nothing else, I must return to my prayers."

Sitting in the cathedral pews, watching Venti's defeat, Famas couldn't help but want to laugh. The nun guarding the Holy Lyre reminded him of the war priests from Natlan—equally rigid and rule-bound.

"Well, that's that."

Venti shrugged at the three, who were clearly enjoying his failure.

"Looks like we'll have to resort to some… unconventional methods."
