Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Shenhe's Future Husband?

"Manifest the True Form!"

Yun Fan retracted his weapon when, suddenly, a cold female voice rang out. A sharp Cryo attack surged toward him from his blind spot on the right.

There was no holding back—it was aimed directly at his vitals.

Upon hearing the voice, Yun Fan immediately knew who it was. Back on Earth, he had listened to this line dozens of times.

With Electro energy surging around him, Yun Fan used his hand as a sword and shattered the incoming attack. The scattered Cryo energy formed a mist of ice.

As the Cryo talisman shattered, a sharp whistling sound followed. A spear pierced through the icy mist, aimed directly at Yun Fan's head. If an ordinary person were struck by this spear, they would surely die.

Clang!

The spear stopped less than two centimeters from Yun Fan's head. It wasn't because the attacker showed mercy—Yun Fan had grabbed the spear and forced it to a halt.

All of this happened in an instant. The adepti were still in a state of shock, but Cloud Retainer was the first to react and quickly spoke up to stop the attack.

"Shenhe, don't be rude!" If Shenhe's offense angered Yun Fan, it would be troublesome. From the way Yun Fan had attacked the three of them earlier, it was clear he was a petty person. If he took his anger out on Shenhe, Cloud Retainer would have no choice but to seek Rex Lapis's mediation.

"It's fine," Yun Fan shook his head, releasing his grip and returning the spear, "Calamity Queller," to Shenhe. He wouldn't hold a grudge against his "wife" from his past life.

Shenhe wasn't wearing the revealing outfit from the game, which was dominated by black stockings. Instead, she was dressed in a proper white adeptus robe.

Had Cloud Retainer spent all her wealth on her mechanical inventions, leaving Shenhe with only this robe to wear? No, if Cloud Retainer ever went bankrupt, Yun Fan would take care of Shenhe. He couldn't let her suffer.

As for Ganyu, she had worked as the secretary of the Liyue Qixing for thousands of years. Even with an ordinary salary, her savings would be astronomical.

"But, Master, the injuries of the two senior adepti..." Shenhe hesitated.

"Your master and the two adepti were just having a friendly spar," Yun Fan explained with a smile, then glanced at Mountain Shaper and Moon Carver. "As for their injuries, they just tripped and fell."

Mountain Shaper and Moon Carver's mouths twitched. This guy could really lie through his teeth. Anyone could see their injuries were from blade wounds.

"I see," Shenhe nodded, her expression one of sudden understanding.

She actually believed it!

The two adepti were speechless. This was beyond ridiculous.

"Shenhe, this is Yun Fan. He is your..." Cloud Retainer paused. How should she define their relationship?

Yun Fan looked to be in his teens, so calling him "senior brother" or "junior brother" would be appropriate. But he had been acknowledged by Rex Lapis as the "Divine Lord," which technically put him on the same level as Rex Lapis, even above the adepti.

What should she call him?

As Cloud Retainer struggled with this, Shenhe spoke up.

"I understand, Master."

You understand? What do you understand? Cloud Retainer was confused. She hadn't even said anything, yet Shenhe already understood?

"This gentleman, Yun Fan, must be my future husband."

Yun Fan: ?

Cloud Retainer: ?

Moon Carver, Mountain Shaper: ?

Shenhe's calm tone delivered a statement that left everyone else in shock.

"It seems so," Shenhe added, seeing that no one disagreed. She became even more certain of her assumption.

"This must be an arranged marriage by you, Master. You didn't tell me earlier because you were worried about my feelings. Don't worry, I will abide by my parents' wishes and the matchmaker's words. I won't..."

"Stop, stop, stop!" Cloud Retainer quickly interrupted. If she let Shenhe continue, Yun Fan might go along with it, and the matter could become real.

Wait, become real?

Cloud Retainer's eyes gleamed as she looked Yun Fan over.

'In terms of talent and appearance, he's top-tier.

His strength is more than enough to protect Shenhe.

As for his character, perhaps he was just asserting himself earlier. After all, a new official needs to make a strong impression.

Since Rex Lapis acknowledged him and bestowed the title of Divine Lord, his character must be good, and his potential is limitless.'

The more Cloud Retainer thought about it, the more satisfied she became. Her eyes practically sparkled.

Meanwhile, Yun Fan, under her gaze, felt a chill run down his spine.

'What is this old shut-in thinking? Is she planning to go after a younger man? Though, if she took off her glasses, she might look...'

"Ahem," Cloud Retainer coughed twice. "Shenhe, you're right. This Yun Fan is your future husband."

Yun Fan: ?

Mountain Shaper, Moon Carver: ?

Shenhe: (?????)

"Wait, Cloud Retainer, come here for a moment." Moon Carver and Mountain Shaper pulled Cloud Retainer aside, whispering something to her.

"Shenhe," Shenhe said to Yun Fan.

Yun Fan was still in a daze. What was going on? How had he suddenly become Shenhe's future husband? Was this happiness coming a bit too quickly?

Seeing that Yun Fan didn't respond, Shenhe repeated herself.

"Shenhe, my name."

"Hello, Shenhe. My name is Yun Fan."

"I am cursed with a lonely fate. If you don't mind, I will strive to be a good wife." Looking at Shenhe's expressionless face, Yun Fan felt a mix of emotions.

He knew Shenhe's story. The tale of the "Divine Damsel of Devastation" had spread far and wide on Earth, even reaching many foreigners.

Because he knew, he didn't know what to say.

Should he comfort her? That would likely be ineffective. Comforting her about the past would only reopen old wounds. Besides, he didn't have the right.

The feeling of being abandoned and betrayed by one's closest family at a young age wasn't something that could be overcome with a simple "I understand."

To untie the bell, one must find the one who tied it. But the one who tied it was long gone. Even if he were still alive, would Shenhe truly forgive him?

Yun Fan wanted to say, "Leave your future to me," but this was their first meeting. How could he say such a thing?

After a moment of silence, all his thoughts condensed into a single sentence: "Shenhe, let's take care of each other from now on."
