Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Ganyu
"Phew, teasing someone and then running away is so much fun. But where should I go next? I'll have to wait until Hu Tao cools down before I can go back."
The fight with Zhongli two days ago ended in a draw, but Yun Fan knew he had lost. It was clear that Zhongli still had the strength to continue, while Yun Fan was completely exhausted, his body worn out from the prolonged battle. In the end, Zhongli had to take him back. However, this also gave Yun Fan the chance to experience the thrill of riding on a Geo pillar, which was truly extraordinary.
"Zhongli told me to go out and explore Liyue Harbor these past couple of days to get familiar with the environment. Does he want me to stay in Liyue?" Yun Fan pondered as he strolled through the streets of Liyue Harbor. Compared to the other six nations, Liyue Harbor had a more lively and bustling atmosphere. Perhaps because it felt more like his hometown, Yun Fan had developed a sense of familiarity with the place. In just a few days, he had already come to regard it as his second home.
Time passed slowly as Yun Fan wandered around. Soon, it was already noon, and he leisurely made his way to Wanmin Restaurant. By this time, the restaurant was packed, and it seemed he would have to share a table to find a seat.
No matter, he was just here for a meal anyway.
Yun Fan called out to the owner, Chef Mao, "Chef Mao, warm up two bowls of wine and bring me a plate of fennel beans!"
"Huh?" Chef Mao was completely baffled by Yun Fan's request. Warming up wine was understandable, but what were fennel beans?
"Ahem, sorry, that was a slip of the tongue," Yun Fan said, feeling a bit embarrassed. The scene had inadvertently reminded him of a text he had studied in elementary school, and he had blurted it out without thinking.
"Chef Mao, give me a few skewers of grilled tiger fish, a Jueyun Chili Chicken, and a Mora Meat. No wine, though."
"Is that all?" Chef Mao confirmed again.
"That's all… Wait." Yun Fan was about to confirm his order, as it was more than enough for one person, but just then, he spotted a familiar figure.
"Cancel the previous order. Give me a few vegetarian dishes instead, using the freshest ingredients."
"Got it. Please wait a moment."
After Chef Mao went to prepare the order, Yun Fan walked over to a table in the corner where someone was already seated.
In the corner sat a girl with a horn-shaped hair accessory, wearing a rather… revealing outfit. She was facing an empty plate, and as Yun Fan approached, he could hear her muttering softly.
"What should I do? I'm still a bit hungry. Should I order another plate? But if I eat too much, I'll gain weight…"
"Miss, hello. There are no empty seats around. May I share your table?"
"Huh?" The sudden voice interrupted the girl's dilemma. She looked up and noticed that there were indeed no empty seats, so she nodded in agreement.
"Sure, please sit." After saying this, she lowered her head again.
This left Yun Fan at a loss. After all, he had never really tried to strike up a conversation like this before. He couldn't be too obvious, or Ganyu, with her millennia of life experience, would see right through him.
But he couldn't just sit there in silence either. After some thought, Yun Fan decided to start a conversation.
"Miss, may I ask you a question? Is that a Qilin horn on your head?" Yun Fan asked.
"No, no, it's just a hair accessory," the girl replied, instinctively covering the horn on her head.
"Really? It's so beautiful. Can I take a closer look?" Yun Fan widened his eyes, pretending to be very interested in the accessory.
"This… this…"
"I'm sorry, that was presumptuous of me. Please don't mind me. May I ask your name?" Seeing that the timing was right, Yun Fan pressed on.
"My name is Ganyu. I'm just an ordinary citizen of Liyue." Seeing that Yun Fan didn't press further, Ganyu breathed a sigh of relief and felt a slight sense of goodwill toward this curious young man.
"My name is Yun Fan. It's a pleasure to meet you." Yun Fan wanted to extend his hand for a handshake but decided against it since they were at a dining table.
Just then, the dishes he had ordered arrived. As per his request, they were made with the freshest ingredients, many of which were grown by Wanmin Restaurant themselves. Even after being cooked, the vegetables looked vibrant and appetizing. Ganyu, sitting across from him, couldn't help but swallow her saliva, feeling as though the food she had just eaten had instantly vanished.
"Miss Ganyu, I can't finish all this by myself. Would you like to help me with some?" Yun Fan noticed Ganyu's subtle reaction and seized the opportunity to offer.
"Huh? No, we've only just met. I can't let you treat me to a meal," Ganyu waved her hand, intending to decline Yun Fan's offer, though her eyes remained fixed on the dishes on the table.
"Don't refuse. If we don't finish these, they'll just go to waste. If you feel bad about it, you can treat me next time."
"Well… alright. Thank you for your hospitality, Mr. Yun Fan." Ganyu was still hesitant, but after seeing the "sincere" look in Yun Fan's eyes, she finally gave in and accepted his invitation.
"Mmm, this snow lotus is so delicious… and this…" Watching Ganyu enjoy the food so much, Yun Fan also picked up some dishes to taste. Indeed, compared to what he had eaten before, these dishes were heavenly. For the first time, he felt that vegetarian food could be so delicious.
Noticing a bit of vegetable leaf stuck to the corner of Ganyu's mouth, Yun Fan unconsciously picked up a napkin and gently wiped it off for her.
"Yaoyao, you don't have to…" Halfway through her sentence, Ganyu realized that the person sitting across from her wasn't her little junior sister Yaoyao, but a handsome young man.
In an instant, Ganyu's face turned bright red. In all her years, this was the first time a boy had wiped her mouth for her. Her heart began to race uncontrollably, and her breathing became slightly hurried.
"Ahem, I'm sorry. That was overstepping," Yun Fan apologized, realizing that his intimate gesture might have been inappropriate given that they weren't yet familiar with each other.
"It's alright, Mr. Yun Fan," Ganyu quickly waved her hand, indicating that she didn't mind. But how could she not mind?!
"Mr. Yun Fan, I still have work to attend to. I'll take my leave now. Next time we meet, I'll treat you to a meal." With that, Ganyu hurriedly left. Yun Fan smiled, but just as he was about to pay the bill, he suddenly realized he didn't have any Mora.
For a moment, he felt a cold sweat breaking out.
"Void Archives, come out," Yun Fan silently called in his mind.
'What seems to be the problem, Holder?' The mechanical voice of Void Archives responded.
"I don't have any Mora. How about you give me some? Consider it compensation for delaying my extraction opportunities. These things shouldn't matter much to you," Yun Fan tentatively asked. If Void Archives, born from the laws of the universe, was only trying to nurture him, then something like Mora, which didn't affect his strength, should be something it would be generous with.
'Processing… Approved… 10 billion Mora has been issued.'
NICE!
"Chef Mao, the bill, please. And settle Zhongli's tab while you're at it!"
