Chapter 8: Hu Tao
Amidst the clouds, in front of Qiu Bai's cave, a large crane stood staring at the broken seal.
"Where is the Immortal Lord?!"
"A great Immortal Lord like him... could someone with ill intentions have taken him?"
This crane was none other than Cloud Retainer, who now stood in stunned silence, gazing at the unsealed cave.
"Moon Carver! Mountain Shaper!"
"You two old geezers, get out here now! The Immortal Lord has been taken!"
Hearing this voice transmission, Mountain Shaper and Moon Carver rushed out of the cave in a hurry.
"Who did this?!"
"How outrageous! Someone dared to take the Immortal Lord while he was asleep!"
Both of them were furious.
"What happened, Master? And why are all of you so alarmed?"
A female voice rang out from behind them.
The newcomer wore a tight-fitting black outfit, her long white hair flowing gently in the wind. A Glaze Lily-shaped ornament hung from her headpiece, exuding an air of cold elegance.
It was Shenhe, who looked at them with a puzzled expression.
"Shenhe, go down to the mortal realm, to Liyue Harbor, and find Tianquan, one of the current Liyue Qixing."
"Tell them that the Immortal Lord has mysteriously disappeared and have them send people to search for him!"
Cloud Retainer instructed, clearly frustrated.
"Yes, Master."
Without hesitation, Shenhe turned and started descending the mountain.
Liyue Harbor – Wangsheng Funeral Parlor
"That Zhongli... where have you been? I told you to bring me some food. Why are you so slow?"
Hu Tao complained to Zhongli, only to suddenly notice another incredibly handsome man standing beside him.
His looks were on par with Zhongli's—if not even better.
"Oh, Zhongli, this must be your old friend."
"Have you eaten yet? Xiangling is on duty today. Why don't you sit down and eat with us?"
Hu Tao's bright, plum-blossom-shaped eyes sparkled with curiosity as she stared at Qiu Bai.
Seeing how enthusiastic she was, Qiu Bai found it hard to refuse. He sat down—after all, he hadn't eaten in a thousand years.
"My old friend forgot to mention, but I am now a guest consultant at Wangsheng Funeral Parlor," Zhongli explained, glancing at Qiu Bai.
"And this is the Hall Master of Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, Hu Tao."
"Nice to meet you, Hall Master Hu. My name is Qiu Bai."
Qiu Bai smiled at Hu Tao. After all, who in Teyvat didn't know the famous Pyro DPS?
Seeing this eccentric yet lively girl up close, Qiu Bai had to admit—she looked even better in person than she did in the game.
"Hall Master Hu, my friend has no fixed place to stay. Could he temporarily reside at Wangsheng Funeral Parlor?"
"His knowledge surpasses even mine, and I believe he could be of great help to you."
Zhongli introduced Qiu Bai to Hu Tao, and his words weren't an exaggeration.
Qiu Bai had once shared tea with him, stood beside him during the Rite of Descension, and even offered unique insights into Liyue's future development and governance.
"Is that so? I never imagined you'd have such a remarkable friend, Zhongli."
"Alright then, let Qiu Bai become a guest consultant at Wangsheng Funeral Parlor as well."
Resting her chin in her hand, Hu Tao studied Qiu Bai with a playful smile. Even the way he carried himself was refined—much like Zhongli.
Though he looked younger, he gave off the same composed and enigmatic aura.
But having two handsome men around every day... well, that wasn't a bad thing, was it?
"Thank you, Hall Master Hu. I happen to have some knowledge of Yin-Yang arts."
"I believe I can be of great assistance to you."
Qiu Bai set down his chopsticks and smiled at Hu Tao.
"Huh?"
"Yin-Yang arts? You mean that literally?!"
Hu Tao shot up in surprise, quickly moving to Qiu Bai's side and leaning in so close their faces were nearly touching.
"Yes, literally."
"I know a thing or two about the way of Yin and Yang."
Qiu Bai smirked inwardly. Being called the Immortal Lord of Yin and Yang wasn't just for show.
After spending so much time with Morax, even his way of speaking had started to resemble his.
The passage of time had changed him—he was no longer the same Qiu Bai he once was.
"My friend, you're still as humble as ever," Zhongli remarked, setting down his chopsticks as well.
His old friend was none other than the Archon of Yin and Yang—his understanding of the Yin-Yang arts had been at its peak since the moment of his birth.
"Zhongli, you really found me an incredible helper."
"Qiu Bai, tonight you're coming with me to Wuwang Hill."
Hu Tao patted Qiu Bai on the shoulder and let out a yawn.
"I'm full. Time for my afternoon nap. I'll come find you tonight, Qiu Bai."
"Alright, Hall Master."
With that, Hu Tao left for Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, while Zhongli and Qiu Bai watched her go.
"She's quite the energetic one," Qiu Bai mused, sipping his tea.
"I can't handle that child," Zhongli admitted, taking a sip as well. A small smile formed on his lips as he watched the bustling street.
"Oh? There's actually someone who gives you trouble?" Qiu Bai teased.
Just then, a girl stepped out of Wanmin Restaurant, carrying a tray.
A peculiar little creature followed closely behind her as she walked toward Zhongli.
There was no doubt—she was none other than Xiangling, the Six-Star True God.
"Mr. Zhongli! Your Jueyun Guoba is ready!"
Xiangling placed the dish on the table before glancing at Qiu Bai curiously.
Was he a friend of Zhongli's? She had never seen him before.
"Guoba, let's go!"
Xiangling turned to head back inside—only to realize that Guoba wasn't moving.
At that moment, Guoba stood frozen, staring wide-eyed at Qiu Bai and Zhongli.
"Lu-lu-lu... (ΩДΩ)..."
