CHAPTER 87: Enchantment
The moment the primary rune was placed within the Runic Seal, the energy inside it began to transmit throughout the disk, illuminating it completely in crimson.
Now there was no turning back. Every second the primary rune remained on the disk, it lost energy, and the more energy it lost, the weaker the final enchantment would be, or worse, completely ineffective.
Now it was a matter of speed as well as precision.
In the first layer of the Runic Seal was the primary rune. By pressing the button on the side of the disk, a thin layer of mana isolated the primary rune.
Without wasting more time, Lian's mana delicately and precisely grasped the secondary rune, placing it on the mana layer of the Runic Seal.
At that moment, the secondary rune began to shine vigorously again. Now it was Lian's turn!
With determination, the boy brought the Runic Stylus to the secondary rune. The moment he did, it began to glow intensely while the mana layer beneath it started to thin.
Lian had to create the connections. From what Master Corvan had told him, the connection between the secondary rune and the primary rune was very simple.
It was enough to insert the stylus into the exact center of the primary rune, applying a hole in the mana layer and creating the connection between the two runes.
Sweat began to drip from the boy's forehead as he calculated the center of the primary rune with precision. It was not a simple task; every extracted primary rune was, in some way, different from the others.
Mana flowed from his meridians to his fingers, effortlessly entering the Runic Stylus and then into the Runic Seal.
Through the mana, Lian could sense the general energy of the rune, somehow managing to calculate its center.
"Here it is!"
After expending sweat and mana for several minutes, Lian managed to precisely identify the center of the primary rune, and through the Runic Stylus, he applied a hole in the mana layer at that exact point.
The secondary rune began to glow and pulse even more intensely, a sign of a complete successful fusion.
"Good!!" Despite the sweat threatening to fall onto the disk, Lian was incredibly excited. This was his first time, but he was succeeding without major difficulties.
Without wasting time on further pre-celebrations, Lian clicked the second button on the edge of the disk.
Another thin mana layer separated the secondary rune from the third layer, where the tertiary rune would soon settle.
With delicacy, Lian brought the tertiary rune to the third layer of the disk.
"Now comes the fun part—" an ironic smile mixed with determination painted Lian's face as he wielded the Runic Stylus with mastery, as if he had not started handling it just minutes before.
"Master Corvan explained to me that tertiary runes do not connect only to the primary rune but also to the secondary one."
"The difficulty increases…"
Lian began to tremble under the pressure.
As a tertiary rune, Lian had chosen a simple effect. Greater firepower.
Taking a deep breath, Lian tightened his grip on the Runic Stylus while mana flowed slowly and steadily into the Runic Seal.
He needed to sense the tertiary rune and its connection with the others.
"Let us begin!" Lian murmured slowly.
The stylus in his hands moved with precision, pinpointing the exact point he had managed to identify with his mana, preparing to draw a circle starting from that point.
"Damn!"
The exact moment he reached the contact point, something went wrong, and the stylus in his hands sank slightly off to the side.
Sweat threatened to block his vision, taking the place of his hair, but Lian's thoughts were focused elsewhere. Will it explode?? he thought, quickly stepping back.
But the imagined explosion did not occur. Instead, the runic energy began to leak from the Runic Seal, while the rune lost its luster.
"Damn, the energy is leaking! I have to do something—" stepping forward, Lian approached the Seal again, the stylus still in his hands.
With a quick thought, he immediately identified the leak point while the stylus in his hand began to glow intensely. He had to inject mana to close the hole.
"Damn, what am I doing—" he shouted before a small explosion echoed all around—
Boom—
Lian took a few steps back, coughing and spitting saliva as dense crimson smoke filled the air.
Fortunately, the explosion of a Bronze 1 rune did not cause significant damage. Lian got off with a few coughs and some curses.
"Damn, I am an idiot! The Runic Stylus cannot heal a lesion on the mana layer. So once you make a mistake…"
Lian began to sweat, thinking about the difficulty of the task and how many resources it would take to become a skilled Rune Master.
"If you make a single mistake, you have to start over. That is the art of us Rune Masters, Lian."
The loud but calm voice of Master Corvan echoed in the air. Lian turned, only to see an elegantly dressed man accompanied by a woman.
"Huh?" Lian tilted his head to the side as he tried to understand what he was seeing.
Master Corvan wore an elegant silver suit that highlighted his dark eyes. His tall, robust build made him look like a giant compared to the woman beside him.
Unlike him, she appeared smaller, but her aura said otherwise. She was Silver 3 rank.
Hers was one of the typical academy robes, white with silver veins, three to be exact. Her hair was gathered in curls, while her thin lips curled into a gentle smile.
Overall, they were a beautiful couple.
"Lian, let me introduce you to Katy, my partner. Let me tell you something. The life of a Rune Master is very complex. We work all day, every day, for weeks. But life is not just about work! You also have to have fun, but above all…"
Corvan's gaze turned stoic, as if what he was about to say was something to take very seriously.
"…you must have a special person by your side who understands you and can help you relax!"
