Getting a Sugar Mommy in Cultivation World!!

Chapter 680: Gathering Information

"What can I get you, sir?" The little boy looked at Noah as if he was his savior and asked with an expectant look on his face; as if realizing something, he knocked himself on the head and read out a list of dishes from his mind with a look that said he was trying hard to remember something. "Mmm… we have curry rice, chicken rice, dog rice, cat stew, bao bun… and… Goddess Ana and… ah, and fried rice. We also serve tea and some mild wine if you would like something to accompany the food."

Noah watched the boy with an amused look on his face as he narrated each dish from start to finish. At the same time, he did something that made people who were looking at him secretly look away and act like he was never there.

"Just some fried rice and something cold to drink." Noah gave his order and watched as the boy walked away, skipping with each step. He walked up to the corner of the shop and rose up on his toes to peek inside a small service window of the kitchen and repeated the order.

Noah looked away from the boy and raised his hearing perception to the fullest, and every conversation reached his ears.

"I think I might lose my job tomorrow. I just had a huge fight with my employer."

"What did you do?"

"What could I have done? I was just talking to his wife about taking her to see my personal sword collection. She always says that she thinks that my sword can pierce everything and wanted to see if that was true or not."

"My employer was walking by when I said that I would be more than happy to show you my sword. I don't know why, but he suddenly started shouting at me and threw me out of the shop."

"…"

"I think there are more chances of Goddess Ana appearing before me than you getting some common sense or keeping this job."

"Hey, don't say this; the boss lady secretly contacted me later. She told me that she will talk to her husband and try to get me to keep my job."

"While you will get hold of your job, she will hold something else."

"I heard from my sister that her husband was forced to join the army."

"Really? How old is he?"

"16, he is barely of age, and he is being forced to sever."

"Come on, you know the rules the city lord made."

"Yes, but if my sister became a widow at a young age, it would be because of that bastard." Noah could practically hear the venom and hate for the city lord dripping in his voice.

"Come on, don't say things that should not be spoken in public. Who knows what will happen if someone hears it?" The other guy whispered sharply, forcing his friend to keep quiet.

"I heard there is a sale going on in the southern Dale Street."

"Is that so? That damned woman keeps nagging me all day; I barely have the energy for other things by the time I am done dealing with her."

"Your wife? Deal with her, how?"

"How else? We fight. Sometimes she forces my hand to do things I don't want to."

"Oh? How was the training at the compound?"

"Don't get me started; I hate that damned man for destroying my whole life." The voice cracked with bitter emotions.

Noah heard a lot by the time his food arrived. Even though some of the talks seemed useless at first, he was able to pick up on the main details within the talks with his sharp brain.

"Here is your order, sir." The server boy trotted near Noah with a cute yet serious look on his childish face. His hands were filled with several trays filled with different food and drinks.

Just as he was about to set everything on Noah's table, Noah picked his order from his hands. "No need for the work, kiddo. Go serve the others."

Hearing this, the child flashed Noah the brightest smile he could muster, "Thank you, sir."

Noah sat there and looked at his order, which looked nothing special. It was not even that appetizing to look at, but he still picked up the worn-out steel spoon and filled a little before taking a bite.

He chewed hard, as the rice was undercooked and made with haste. The saltiness and spiciness were off. Noah drank the cold glass of lemonade and took a sip to wash down the rice.

But even the lemonade had a little flavor. Instead of complaining, Noah ordered a side dish to go with the rice, which would allow him to eat his food more easily.

Once more he turned his attention back to listening in on others' conversations. Most of the people were talking about some kind of goddess, which Noah thought was just a beautiful-looking woman, but he even saw a photo of her on the wall of the restaurant and realized that they treated her like some divine being.

In the photo, she was a beautiful woman with icy blue hair and a cold face. She was standing on top of a mountain of beast corpses. In her hand was a bloody sword she had used to slay these beasts.

People revered this woman as their goddess.

Another thing he realized was that people hated the lord of the city. He forced every healthy man who was above 15 to join the army training program to serve the city.

And this training program was not easy to follow as well; people were so scared of it that they faked injuries to get out of it.

But what Noah was curious about was the fact that the city lord was in need of such manpower.

And then he heard it.

"Why are you so pale today?" Sitting in the far end of the room, away from where others could hear them, sat two middle-aged men. One of them had a long beard and full mustache, while the other guy had a clean shave. "You look like you have seen a ghost."

"You know my cousin?" The pale-faced, clean-shaven guy looked around in fear before whispering with trembling breath.

"The one you boasted had a son in the city guard's personal unit." Replied his friend with a thoughtful tone as he took one of the fried beetles from the plate before him and started chewing on it.

"Yes, the very same one."

"I met him, and he told me something… Before I tell you, remember you will keep quiet about this and not let others know about what I told you, let alone how you got to know about it." Pausing, he looked around one more time before speaking in an even quieter tone. "There might be …a…de…"

"What?" His friend frowned, leaning forward since he failed to hear what he said.

The middle-aged man rubbed his shaved chin with his finger and spoke with a slightly more audible tone. "There might be a beast tide."

"What?!"

His friend shouted so loud that everyone turned to look at them.

"What happened, old man Ge?" Someone asked the man without a beard.

"Shhh!" The man named Ge first glared his friend into silence before looking around with an apologetic look on his face.
