God Ash: Remnants of the fallen.

Chapter 918: For the Curtain Call, The End of the World as we Know It (9).

Silver stars danced in the skies.

Then they shot down into the world, burying themselves in the backs and heads of Devils.

These silver stars were not actual stars, but rather blades crafted of mana, courtesy of the Black Steel Viper, Star Prince Nebula.

The reason he had the moniker of Black Steel Viper, was because of his possession of the skill, {Sky of Steel}, which was a metal element attribute skill that allowed him create specific constructs of a specially magical steel alloy.

These constructs came in the shape of stars, although their sizes could be manipulated.

What made the skill so dangerous, was its sheer versatility in combat, making him one of the most dangerous entities on the battlefield at the moment.

He could summon hundreds of them, and make them as large as he wanted within the limits of him mana capacity of course.

Silver stars darted through the thick darkness, slicing devilish throats and crushing their bones.

Around him, a zone of death was created as none of the devils that made their way to him lived for long.

The same was true for the Stone Ox King, Baldur.

Baldur was a hulking beast of a man with rather dark skin.

He was also the unofficial strongest amongst the blood elders.

Compared to the ring of death around Nebula, what surrounded this monster was a terrifying shrine of devastation and slaughter.

Even the members of the Blood Moon Sect unfortunate enough to get caught in his madness were torn to pieces, their bones and blood scattered into the dark winds.

Wielding an enormous stone axe, every swing of this horrid weapon sent powerful shockwaves flying. The muscles of the Stone Ox King rippled with magnificent might as he left out an invigorated roar and smashed his axe down on the body of a Devil.

Standing even taller than the dark abomination, his axe thoroughly crushed the Devil into a dark, bloody paste.

It was a horrifying sight indeed that proved this human was not very human at all. If anything, he was more beast that human.

The way he fought, the madness with every strike.

It was simply too violent.

Too brutal.

Too savage!

Sheathing his blade, Nebula's brows were furrowed as he watched the Devil army get cut through by this massive monster of a man.

"What an abhorrent creature. Why does the Matriarch favor such a brute?"

"That is because he knows how to crush her enemies. A guard dog is kept fed well. Doesn't change the fact that he is a dog, no?"

Nebula turned to the side.

Standing beside him, wearing an aloof expression was the White Fox Princess, Suzume.

Nebula's frown tightened even more.

Although on paper, Baldur was the strongest, he feared this terrible witch much more.

Despite her beautiful, gentle features, the White Fox Princess was a powerful mage that excelled in enchantments, illusions, and binding spells. A rather terrifying opponent for anybody.

With her on the battlefield, the Devils had an even worse time.

Turning blind, or having your movements restrained for even just the briefest of seconds in a fast-paced life or death battle was rather lethal after all.

He absolutely had no inclination to fight her.

At least not yet.

Nebula snorted,

"This battle is a joke." He looked around him.

Although the Devils had the numbers and were powerful individually, they still couldn't stop the tide of frenzies humans empowered by the scourge of the blood moon.

This was the difference between fighting fair and otherwise.

The power of a Celestial was something that couldn't be underestimated at all.

For eons, mortal creatures had fought off the invasions of the Devil race using the power of the Celestials.

They were like fire and ice. Light and Darkness.

"A joke, you say..." Suzume muttered.

Nebula shrugged,

"It will take some time, but we will win. The Devil Spire will fall soon so we won't have to worry about the Devil corruption de destroying the land even further and there will be no more new Devils being spawned. But..."

He hesitated for a moment, his expression dark as he turned his gaze to the sky.

The world overhead was a deathly mix of crimson and black.

Like blood seeping into a pit of mire....

"This victory applies only in the outcome of the battle happening right over our heads. Is that what you want to say?"

Nebula was silent..

Suzume chuckled,

"For a pervert, you seem very concerned about the Matriarch. What, is this the story of a whore falling in love?"

Nebula shot her a nasty glare,

"I don't see how that's any of your business."

Her expression crumpled into a frown,

"No, but it is, Nebula."

She went silent for a moment, then sighed,

"In any case, you can seize your worries. This Devil leader might be powerful, but the greatest weakness of all Devils, is their very own nature."

Nebula frowned,

"What do you mean?"

A strange, twisted smile appeared on her face,

"They are creatures of darkness. Not elemental darkness, but the truest darkness. A biting, evil scourge. Which makes the light of the Celestials their everlasting weakness."

"The Nomad created the Celestials as a balance, a trade-off for the scourge he created. A means to curb the cancer from festering. Why he did this is still a mystery to me." The White Fox Princess said.

Then she sighed and chuckled,

"So the Matriarch will be victorious. And the city will fall into our hands. And then this entire world."

"Aren't you getting ahead of yourself there?" Nebula suddenly said grimly.

Suzume chuckled softly,

"Well, I guess you are right. But..."

She turned her gaze into the dark skies.

Thunderous flashes of crimson lightning illuminated it.

She smiled,

"If we can't do it, that means the rest of humanity is surely doomed. The other two divine settlements are already destroyed or on their way there. I still like to believe that some form of salvation exists, even with the darkness and rot that is surely waiting for us."

Nebula was silent.

Then he drew the sword at his hip and lunged into the battle again.

Behind him, an enormous magic circle spun to life and a giant toothed wheel appeared.

With a grunt, he swung his sword forward.

The world churned violently as it ripped up a violent wind and shot into the sky life a frisbee.

It was fast as it arched a curve through the sky, shearing off the head of a {Greater Frost Devil}.

The giant creature fell to the ground with a thunderous thud.

'Salvation, huh...'
