God-Eater Ascension: Apocalypse Sequence

Chapter 15: Alex's decision

It was no longer feasible for him to visit internet cafes. Alex needed to find a secure platform where he could browse information without worry.

This was a matter of utmost importance.

After explaining the ramifications caused by Alex, Ms. Clarke once again steered the conversation back to the introductions of the eight academies and the application process.

However, Alex wasn't listening at all.

Applying to ordinary colleges was irrelevant to him now.

His mind was consumed with curiosity about the higher education institutions for Sequence Ability Holders.

Did the exams for Sequence Ability Holders coincide with the national college entrance examination? Was it in six months?

Ms. Clarke had just mentioned that only students who awakened their Sequence Abilities before the national college entrance examination could apply to the universities for Sequence Ability Holders, and they had only one chance to take the exam.

That meant he had to reveal his Sequence Ability within the next six months and register with the Sequence Ability Holder Administration?

Time was of the essence.

He pondered what would happen if he didn't attend a university for Sequence Ability Holders and instead entered society after high school, waiting for the right moment to reveal his ability.

Hunting Gods outside the Safe Zone might rapidly enhance his powers.

But without an education in Sequence Abilities, his horizons might be severely limited.

For instance, he didn't know what Sequence Potions were, or what equipment people often mentioned on forums were, and he was curious about why air-defense glass and protective glass could block Gods.

He had numerous questions that he believed could be answered in university.

Most importantly, the United Government's establishment of universities for Sequence Ability Holders indicated that there was a well-established education system and curriculum. There were definitely many things he didn't know or understand.

Since he wasn't in a rush, he might as well attend the university for Sequence Ability Holders to thoroughly learn about Sequence Abilities before enhancing his own strength.

As the saying goes, "Sharpening the axe doesn't delay cutting the wood."

He had to attend the university for Sequence Ability Holders!

It offered a better platform, which meant better opportunities!

After visualizing his future, Alex's thoughts returned to the present.

A name once again emerged in his mind.

Barry.

This name had been playing in his mind since he opened his eyes in the morning.

He couldn't wait to deal with Barry and proceed with his plan to reveal his identity as a Sequence Ability Holder.

Barry was the last shackle binding him!

It must be unlocked!

After school, Alex, carrying his meal from the cafeteria, went to the library again.

"Hello, Mr. Zhu!"

Mr. Zhu was tidying up the bookshelves and was surprised to see Alex. "Alex, why are you here again after school? Didn't you say you only come in the afternoon? Don't let it interfere with your studies."

Previously, Alex had to rush home after school to do Emma's homework.

And it was because he had always been diligent in doing homework and had to understand the lessons that he, as a result, had a ranking of around one hundred in his grade.

But a ranking of around one hundred had no practical significance beyond self-comfort.

After reincarnating, Alex stopped doing such futile tasks and no longer cared about his studies, so he didn't need to rush home anymore.

He knew Mr. Zhu would tidy up the books alone after school, and Alex didn't want the kind Mr. Zhu to do the work alone, so he went to the library again after school.

"It's okay. Studying can wait. I've been studying in the classroom the whole day and I'm tired. I came to help you tidy up the books to relax."

"But…"

"Plus, I'm part of the library's work-study program, so I should be doing this."

Mr. Zhu smiled. "You're such a good kid. Alright, then you can help me tidy up too."

"Sure."

Alex put down the bag containing his meal box and started working in the library.

Meanwhile, Emma and others watched Alex's busy figure in the library from afar.‌

"Emma, are you really going to follow him? With so many of us, he'll definitely notice once we're outside the school," said one of Emma's friends.

"The snitch has to be a classmate. Alex lives in a remote area and never walks with anyone. So that bitch must be informing on him within the school. He'll definitely meet her again on campus!" Emma fumed.

"And today, Alex came to the library after school instead of leaving directly. There must be something fishy going on!"

"I didn't compare answers with Zhou today, and I didn't give him breakfast. Zhou's already a bit upset with me. If I find that snitch, I'll teach her a lesson on how to talk!"

"Alright, we'll help you!" her friends replied in unison.

They accompanied Emma and waited in the distance, keeping an eye on Alex in the library.

Little did Alex suspect he was being watched while working in the library. Immersed in the kind smile of Mr. Zhu, Alex felt at peace and didn't have his guard up.

While organizing books, Alex noticed a girl sitting beside a bookshelf, engrossed in a workbook.

This was a characteristic of Haven Academy's library.

Apart from regular books, it also housed workbooks related to the national college entrance examination for students to borrow.

Because of these workbooks not available in classrooms, some financially struggling but academically excellent students visited the library every day. Otherwise, the library would be deserted.

Alex reminded the diligent girl, "Excuse me, the library's about to close. Could you please leave?"

"Oh… Right."

She looked up at Alex, obeyed, and placed the workbook back on the shelf.

When their gazes met, Alex's eyes lingered for a moment.

Her long, black hair cascaded over her shoulders like a waterfall. Her eyes were clear and bright, shining like a spring. Her nose was high and her lips were like those of a cherry, forming a beautiful contour.

"Sorry for disturbing you as you close up," she apologized, bowing to Alex and Mr. Zhu before rushing out of the library with her backpack.

Alex didn't have a deep impression of her and couldn't recall who she was at first.

Mr. Zhu sighed, "Wenne is such a worry-free child. She excels in academics and is well-behaved. If only my granddaughter could be like her!"

Mr. Zhu had lost his wife early on and only had his son, daughter-in-law, and a granddaughter at home.

While working in the library, Alex often heard Mr. Zhu talk about how clever and well-behaved his granddaughter was.

This was the first time he heard Mr. Zhu say his granddaughter wasn't as good as someone else.

However, Mr. Zhu's words revealed the girl's identity to Alex.

Alex realized who she was.

It was Wenne Shu.

Her name was famous throughout the school.

She topped their grade in every exam, far outscoring the second-placer. She was Haven Academy's undisputed top student.

As an excellent student, she enjoyed certain privileges. The principal, dean, and teachers all treated her with special care. For example, if other students didn't submit their homework, they'd be scolded, but she faced no punishment.

Not only could she skip homework, but she could also study in the library during class without any teacher stopping her.

Academically, she surpassed her teachers in preparing for the national college entrance examination.

Beautiful and intelligent, she was the school's recognized beauty. Many boys pursued her, but she politely rejected them all.

In this life, like Alex, Wenne came from a humble background and lived with her grandmother.

In his previous life, Alex focused solely on Emma and paid no attention to Wenee.

Today, when he saw her for the first time, he found that Wenee lived up to her reputation.

Yet, what did it matter to him?

They had no intersection in life.

Neither in his past life nor in this one.

When he snapped back to reality, he saw Mr. Zhu carrying a stack of heavy books. Immediately, he said, "Mr. Zhu, let me take that. Those books look heavy.

"No, it's okay. I can handle it," Mr. Zhu replied.

Seeing this, Alex had to put down the book he was holding and rushed over to snatch the stack of books from Mr. Zhu's hands.

"Let me do it. I'm young and have plenty of strength. You're older, so you should rest whenever you can," Alex insisted.

Mr. Zhu chuckled, "Alright, good boy. Thank you."

"It's you who kept this job for me. I should be the one thanking you," Alex said warmly, which was the first time he had shown such enthusiasm towards someone since his rebirth.

But in his heart, he believed Mr. Zhu deserved it.

After everything was tidied up, Mr. Zhu locked the door.

"Goodbye, Alex. See you tomorrow," Mr. Zhu said.

"Yes, see you," Alex replied as he left the library.

Feeling the urge to urinate, Alex didn't leave the school but detoured to the restroom behind the library instead.

The restroom beside the library was seldom used, so it wasn't cleaned very often.

It had probably been a few days since it was last cleaned, as soon as Alex entered, he was hit by a pungent smell.

He just wanted to finish quickly and leave.

Just as he was pulling up his pants, he suddenly heard slapping sounds coming from the stall next to him.

"Tell me! Was it you, you bitch, who told Alex about me and Zhou?" a furious voice shouted.

"I've told you, I don't know Alex, Zhou, or you!" another voice, presumably the victim's, responded.

"Slap!"

"Still denying it! Today at school, Alex only talked to you and Julie! If it wasn't you, was it Julie, that old hag, who told him?!"

"Emma, don't listen to her! Girls like Wenee, who are pretty and do well in school, are all snakes in the grass!" one of Emma's friends chimed in.

"Exactly! Thinking you're better than everyone else just because the teachers宠 you. Who knows how many men you've slept with!" said another.

Wenee persisted, "I've told you, I don't know anything!"

"You bitch! Don't think just because you're pretty and do well in school, you can seduce Zhou! I'm telling you, no way!" Emma screamed.

Alex adjusted his pants and sighed.

He easily recognized that the crazy bitch was Emma, the sweet and charming girl he used to know.

He had no intention of getting involved with Emma again, but fate seemed to have other plans.

And Wenee was innocently caught up in this mess. He had to step in, both morally and logically.

Alex washed his hands and walked towards the women's restroom.

"Emma, making such a racket. I can't even take a piss in peace. Do you really want me to tell Zhou about this?" Alex said as he entered.

Seeing Alex, Emma and her friends were taken aback, and the furious Emma immediately calmed down.

Wenee's once beautiful face now had two red marks on her cheeks.

Emma regained her composure and said to Alex, "Alex, don't be so harsh. I'm not causing trouble for you. Why do you have to meddle in this?"

"Are you kidding?" Alex looked at Emma as if she were retarded. "I used to do your homework every day and bring you breakfast, treating you like a dog. How dare you cause trouble for me now?"

Emma was speechless; she couldn't refute Alex's words.

"This has nothing to do with Wenee. You and your friends are ugly and troublesome. Stop blaming others for your own problems," Alex said.

One of Emma's friends, who looked even heavier than Alex, said, "Alex, don't be unreasonable!"

Alex ignored her and walked over to pull Wenee out.

"Unreasonable? If I were unreasonable, I would have told Zhou about Emma's antics already!"

"Emma, think carefully. Zhou's uncle has awakened his Sequence Ability, and his family is about to rise to fame and fortune. If you piss me off, your dream of marrying him will be shattered," Alex threatened.

Alex's words struck a chord with Emma, and her face darkened instantly. "What do you want?"

"
