Chapter 19: god of drama 2
Mo Yan, in a crisp dark robe and upright posture, pushed his way through. His tone was cool and authoritative.
"We're from the Noble Watch of the Eastern Territories. We heard there was a theft?"
The crowd parted slightly. All eyes turned.
Mo Yan turned to the angry merchant.
"You..describe your coin. What was stolen?"
The man, startled but excited by the arrival of an "official," stammered:
"It...it was gold! With a dragon engraving on one side. I just got it yesterday!"
Mo Yan nodded seriously, then turned to Yu Sui..who was still holding up his fake seal.
"And you…? You claim innocence?"
Yu Sui deepened his act, shaking slightly.
"Sir, please… I come from the Southern Trade Route. I'm a licensed merchant… You can check my seal!"
Mo Yan paused dramatically.
Then narrowed his eyes.
"Search the area," he ordered the bystanders.
"If he's innocent, we'll find nothing."
Yu Sui bit the inside of his cheek to stop himself from laughing.
A small group began rummaging.
And eventually...one of the kids found the coin behind the onion cart.
The merchant rushed to it.
"That's it!!" No that's not My coin!!!
But before he could speak, Yu Sui stepped forward confidently.
"Exactly. That proves I didn't have it. Someone must've tried to frame me."
Mo Yan turned to the man with a flat expression.
"So you accused a traveler of theft… without proof. That's a crime, you know."
