Chapter 266: Doomed Monkey
A single swing of the spade smashed the ferocious beast into a bloody pulp, splattering blood that stained a grisly pattern on the chest of Monk Jing Sha. The tragic death of this beast did not deter the rest, but instead, it seemed to flip a switch within the hesitant horde of ferocious beasts. All the beasts began to howl skywards and started to sway on the spot, looking much like a drunken man.
Among the three monks who had followed Monk Jing Sha, one who seemed eager for battle saw that the pack was about to besiege Jing Sha and immediately grabbed a copper rod, ready to step in and help. But he had barely taken half a step before he was pulled back by a companion. Before he could react, that companion and another one were already dragging him away in the opposite direction.
"What are you two doing? Didn't you see that pack of beasts is about to attack Brother Jing Sha? Let go of me; let me help him!" Just as he finished speaking, a companion slapped him on the head and said, "If you think you've lived long enough and are looking for death, then go back. You don't realize the terror of Brother Jing Sha, intending to get close while he's fighting. If you really go there, you might end up being accidentally injured by Brother Jing Sha instead of helping!"
Hearing his fellow disciples speak like this, the man was not a fool. Although surprised, he stopped struggling and let the two pull him back. However, as they ran, he asked, "What do you mean by that? Could Brother Jing Sha really turn on his fellow disciples?"
"It's not like that," they explained. "It's just that Brother Jing Sha enters a state where he can't distinguish friend from foe during battle. At that time, it's not just you; even Elder Tun Tian would not dare approach. I've been on a mission with Brother Jing Sha before and have seen him in combat—it was like Asura Hell. However, as much as Brother Jing Sha is like an Asura demon in battle, his devotion to Buddhism is the most pure!"
The man nodded in understanding. He did not know much about this Monk Jing Sha, but he was not completely ignorant. As far as he knew, about five years ago, a big-bearded bald man appeared out of nowhere in the Ancient Primordial World. No one knew where he came from or his identity, but it was said that he would constantly chant "kill, kill, kill, purify, purify" in battle. Moreover, this man loved combat and threw the Ancient Primordial World into chaos, even destroying several small Taoist Sect forces.
Later, Xuan Qianzi, the Lord of the Ancient Primordial World, learned of this and personally subdued the big-bearded Monk after a fierce battle, giving him the dharma name Jing Sha. Using tremendous mana, Xuan Qianzi cleansed his aura of fierceness, and from then on, the big-bearded bald man entered Buddhism and became a War Buddha.
Yet the man had never imagined that even after becoming a War Buddha, Jing Sha would remain as belligerent as ever, fighting mercilessly and not recognizing anyone. At that moment, he felt a sense of relief. If he had indeed rushed in heedlessly, only to be mistakenly injured by Brother Jing Sha, he would have had nowhere to seek justice.
By the time the three monks had retreated over a thousand meters, the battle involving Monk Jing Sha had fully unfolded. His bare upper body, with muscles like wrought iron, was contorted and twisted, clearly housing tremendous power. And indeed they did. When the horde of ferocious beasts let out a final roar, they all suddenly pounced towards Monk Jing Sha from all directions. Each beast had blood-red eyes, clearly in a highly bloodthirsty state.
Seeing countless ape-like ferocious beasts swarming from all around, Monk Jing Sha remained undaunted. After stroking his blood-streaked beard, Jing Sha suddenly gripped the Sky-flipping Crescent Spade tightly in both hands and then violently stamped on the ground with his right foot. Immediately, intense murderous aura exuded from within him, eventually forming a sinister skull pattern behind him. As the aura released, the solitary gruesome skull was joined by others, and as the aura reached its peak, nine identical skulls appeared behind Jing Sha.
With the appearance of the nine skulls, Monk Jing Sha let out a thunderous roar and then all one could see was the ground beneath him exploding, creating a large crater as he charged into the densest area of ape-like ferocious beasts. His Sky-flipping Crescent Spade swung up, smashed down, sliced across, and chopped vertically—every attack resulted in either death or injury to an ape-like beast; each move drew blood.
From a distance, it truly resembled Asura Hell, with Monk Jing Sha embodying a sinful demon from hell; wherever he went, blood sprayed and limbs were scattered. His body was gradually stained red with blood, but all the blood that landed on him converged to form a ghostly head pattern. The more he killed, the more complete the ghostly head pattern became.
And those nine skulls continuously spun around Monk Jing Sha, blocking all the attacks from the ape-like ferocious beasts. With these skulls as his defense, Monk Jing Sha could focus all his strength on attacking, without having to distract his mind with defense. Hence, the more he fought, the fiercer he became, and the Sky-flipping Crescent Spade in his hands danced into a blood-red tornado.
As Monk Jing Sha slaughtered his way through, the original group of over five hundred ape-like ferocious beasts was cut down by half by him alone, and most of the remaining ones were either wounded or crippled, no longer able to fight. Yet, whether these ferocious beasts truly relished battle by nature, or simply lacked spiritual wisdom, not a single one entertained thoughts of escape amidst their falling comrades. Instead, they became even more crazed. Some beasts, even with their limbs severed, still charged at Monk Jing Sha by biting the ground with their teeth.
If Monk Jing Sha was like an Asura from Hell, then this group of ape-like ferocious beasts were like hungry ghosts—yes, hungry ghosts, not evil spirits. They would die trying to tear off a piece of flesh from their opponent. Gradually, the dead and wounded apes piled up, forming a high wall of corpses around Monk Jing Sha.
Monk Jing Sha's lower half was also buried deep within the corpses of the beasts, yet amidst this mountain of corpses and sea of blood, the surviving ape-like ferocious beasts showed no signs of backing down, continuing their fearless assault. But under the defense of Monk Jing Sha's nine skulls, not one could inflict any harm on him. And so, despite being immersed in ruthless combat till now, Monk Jing Sha himself hadn't received a single scratch, save for being covered in the fresh blood of the ape-like ferocious beasts.
The pile of beast corpses grew higher, until only Monk Jing Sha's bald head remained visible. And at some point, Monk Jing Sha's nine skulls were each tightly clutched by a dozen beasts, and they were no longer able to offer any defense for him. That was when Monk Jing Sha suddenly realized he couldn't move at all.
The corpses of the dead beasts each weighed tens of thousands of pounds, and Monk Jing Sha, buried under over three hundred of them, couldn't move a muscle. Moreover, the blood of these beasts turned out to be toxic. At first, it went unnoticed, but as the blood accumulated, the poison became increasingly potent. Now, Monk Jing Sha was unknowingly paralyzed completely by the toxin, and his strength began to dissipate slowly.
This was something entirely unexpected. The ferocious beasts of the Patrolling Celestial World were so fierce. They were not only extremely aggressive and unafraid of death, but their bodies also became heavier after death. Furthermore, when many corpses accumulated, their blood would produce a paralyzing toxin. Such an evolution was clearly formed under severely adverse conditions. Its purpose was that, should they encounter an invincible enemy, even if they perished in battle, they would create an opportunity for their companions to slay their target. What Monk Jing Sha didn't know was that a large amount of this type of beast's blood, when gathered together, would not only produce toxins but also emit an aroma undetectable by humans.
This aroma could only be sensed by the ferocious beasts of the Patrolling Celestial World, and it had only one purpose: to attract a large number or even stronger ferocious beasts to come and kill the target the ape-like ferocious beasts had failed to kill.
Looking at the situation now, these ape-like ferocious beasts were simply the epitome of terror. All their evolutions and behaviors had only one purpose: to kill their target. If I cannot kill you, my companions must. If they cannot, we will paralyze you, then draw other beasts to finish you off. It could be said that once targeted by this type of beast, death was almost certain, for no matter how powerful, one could hardly contend with all the ferocious beasts of the Patrolling Celestial World. This was the danger of the Patrolling Celestial World and the terror of the ape-like ferocious beasts that Monk Jing Sha and others were unaware of upon their first arrival. However, there was nothing to be done about it, as not just anyone could enter the Patrolling Celestial World.
But any person who had been to the Patrolling Celestial World and managed to leave alive by luck would remember for the rest of their lives a type of ferocious beast called the 'Certain Death Monkey'.
If you encounter this monkey and cannot escape, death is all but guaranteed!
