Great Demon Sun Wukong

Chapter 269: The Man in the Red Robe

Staring at the fruit floating before his eyes, Monk Jing Sha felt somewhat dazed. What did this all mean? Could that little yellow-furred monkey actually communicate with him using Divine Sense within his own mind? However, suddenly, Monk Jing Sha realized that since the little monkey mentioned sparing his life for the sake of an old acquaintance, it meant the monkey must know something. At the very least, that old acquaintance must have some connection to himself.

This might be an opportunity for him to remember those forgotten events, but just as Monk Jing Sha intended to catch up and ask for clarity, he found that aside from the trees around him, there was no trace of the gorillas. It seemed this truly was the gorillas' territory, as they had vanished in the blink of an eye. He definitely had to warn the remaining members of his sect to mark this as a prohibited area upon his return.

He picked up the fruit and examined it closely, finding that it looked like nothing more than an ordinary fruit, but Jing Sha still carefully pocketed it. Recalling the monkey's words in his mind, "for the sake of an old friend," who could this old friend be? This monkey's old friend, what relation did they have with him?

But Monk Jing Sha was only preoccupied with this phrase, subconsciously ignoring what the monkey said afterward. He stretched his limbs and walked to where his three sect members had met their tragic end. Gazing at the three, who had gone from perfectly fine to a heap of bones in an instant, Monk Jing Sha couldn't quite say whether he felt sorrow or something else.

In Monk Jing Sha's heart, there was a faint resistance and indifference towards these so-called sect members, the so-called Buddhism, and even the Domain Lord of the Ancient Primordial World. That's why he didn't differentiate between friend and foe in battle; to him, these sect members were just slightly more familiar strangers.

Whether they lived or died, it made no difference to him. As mentioned before, the reason Monk Jing Sha participated in the trials of the Patrolling Celestial World was solely to return to the place called the Pangu Realm, to find his master, even though he didn't remember who that person was.

Although indifferent to the deaths, Monk Jing Sha sat down cross-legged, chanting the Rebirth Mantra beside the three piles of bones. He couldn't remember when he formed this habit, but his subconscious seemed to be often filled with the hazy figure of someone chanting the Rebirth Mantra beside the deceased; over time, Monk Jing Sha had adopted the same practice.

After completing the chant, Monk Jing Sha picked up his Sky-flipping Crescent Spade, found a clear stream, drank several big mouthfuls of water, and then stripped off his clothes to wash the blood from his body in the stream. Once cleaned, he took out a fresh set of monk's robes from his Sumeru Bag and put them on.

In fact, Monk Jing Sha didn't mind the bloodstains on him, but in this incredibly dangerous forest, being covered in blood was undoubtedly like telling everyone, "I'm here, come and eat me!" Of course, Monk Jing Sha wouldn't make such a rookie mistake. After dressing properly, he continued to move forward while sliding his Buddha Beads through his fingers.

Although three people had died, the exploration distance was still not met.

Apart from the group from the Ancient Primordial World that included Monk Jing Sha, two other exploring groups also faced attacks by ferocious beasts.

One such group was from the Myriad Spirits Realm, located to the southeast of the Patrolling Celestial World with Transforming Thunder Ancestral Realm to the north, Fangcun Spirit Realm to the west, and Genesis Divine Nation to the northwest. However, without a map of the Patrolling Celestial World for guidance, they didn't know their exact location, so they divided into eight teams to explore in all directions, with the Myriad Spirits Realm at the center.

The delegation from the Myriad Spirits Realm consisted of thirty-six Taoist priests, known for their powerful Taoist Arts and proficiency in long-range attacks rather than close combat. Of course, this wasn't an absolute; if you thought these thirty-six Taoists were easy to bully, you'd be sorely mistaken.

There were eight exploration teams, three people each, totaling twenty-four. Twelve stayed to guard the Myriad Spirits Palace, and of those twelve, six were dispatched to eradicate ferocious beasts around the realm, while the remaining six began erecting a barrier. After all, when it came to defense, barriers were the most effective since it was impossible for everyone to simply wait inside the palace for an enemy attack.

The trio who encountered the encirclement of ferocious beasts included a man draped in a red robe with his face covered by the garment's large hood. Besides him, there were two others who had already suffered severe injuries and had lost the ability to continue fighting. Had it not been for the red-robed man's protection, those two might have long since perished.

The attackers were a large group of beasts resembling giant pythons, but that was only a similarity; these giant pythons had snake-like bodies but also two thick forelimbs, and atop their heads, a spiraled, sharp horn.

For the time being, these ferocious beasts may be referred to as pythons, as this was not the world people were familiar with, and all things here couldn't be judged by common sense. Moreover, these giant pythons were exceedingly vicious. Initially, the three thought the thick forelimbs were used for attacking, but they later realized those were for locomotion.

With each claw strike on the ground or tree trunk, the great python snakes burst forward with swift aggression. Thus, initially, the two were taken by surprise and were bitten—one losing an arm and the other a leg. The one who lost an arm was still capable of fighting, but for the one who lost a leg, survival itself was difficult.

The reason the three of them could hold on until now was entirely thanks to the red-robed individual. Strangely, the red-robed one wasn't using any Taoist Arts; instead, he wielded a long sword, and with every thrust or slash, thousands of sword shadows emerged, forming various Sword Arrays to attack the pythons.

Though the pythons could rely on their foreclaws to suddenly burst forth with incredible speed, they needed a brief moment to recover between each speedy movement. Moreover, there were so many pythons that the red-robed one didn't have to aim the Sword Array; any random strike would hit a large number of them.

However, after fighting intensely for a full Chinese Hour, despite killing no less than thirty pythons, the situation wasn't getting better but instead deteriorating. The Sword Array protecting the other two was about to shatter, and the surrounding sea of snakes made it clear that the death of these thirty did not remotely impact or intimidate the horde of pythons.

On the contrary, the formidable prowess of the red-robed individual only solidified the snakes' determination to devour him. The stronger the prey, the more abundant the energy within its body, and consuming such a being promised a significant boost in strength.

The ferocious beasts of the Patrolling Celestial World, though some were not highly intelligent, still had an intense craving for strength. Had it not been for the large size of the pythons and the relatively small stature of the red-robed man preventing them from swarming him altogether, even he wouldn't have lasted long.

But as time passed, the pythons clearly grew impatient. Then, to the astonishment of the red-robed individual, they began to shed their skin! Imagine the spectacle of countless pythons, some over twenty meters long, others less, shedding their skin right before your eyes. Even the red-robed one froze momentarily before being seized by a sense of revulsion.

However, he knew this was not the time for disgust. Although he did not understand why the pythons suddenly decided to molt, he recognized it was an excellent opportunity to strike. Without hesitation, he flicked his wide sleeves, and three more long swords flew out to form a square Sword Array with the previous one.

As he manipulated the four swords to rise into midair, he suddenly threw something resembling a map filled with various lines and pictures into the air. As soon as it left his hand, it flew straight into the center above the four swords. Then, his hands flickered with Magical Decrees, and he uttered loudly, "Sword Array activate, annihilate immortals and demons, slaughter!"

As his voice fell, he lifted his right hand into a Sword Finger gesture and waved at the shedding group of snakes. The swords in midair flew off in four directions, a faint light connecting them. In an instant, countless swords of all sizes appeared within the square formed by the four swords, pouring down like a torrential rainstorm upon the snakes around the red-robed individual.

Each unassuming sword that hit the ground pierced through a python and caused an intense Explosion. By this time, the red-robed had already used two more swords to set up a defensive Sword Array around himself to avoid being splashed by the flying flesh and blood.

The sword rain lasted a full quarter of a Chinese Hour!

During this time, the roar of Explosions was incessant, and when the downpour of swords finally ceased, a crater a hundred meters deep was all that remained around where the red-robed individual stood. The base and sides of the pit were charred.

The once incomputably numerous pythons were now nowhere to be seen, and not a trace of their fragmented flesh remained. The strike was terrifying in its power.

With a satisfying nod and a look at the vast pit, the red-robed burst into wild laughter, though the sound carried a few notes of despondency. With a beckoning gesture, the four swords obediently returned to the sleeves of the red-robed individual.

Just as he was about to turn and leave, something seemed to occur to him. He surveyed his surroundings one more time, then heaved a sigh and murmured, "Ah, I accidentally blasted those two to smithereens as well; I had planned to use them for a Blood Sacrifice for my twelve Ancestral Witches!"
