Chapter 746: Light of Madness
Once again, Malcolm felt like he was under the cold embrace of death. Adam's speed was simply too great, and his attacks too ruthless.
It was too late for him to cast any magic spells. All he could do was resort to one of many last-ditch resorts—the magical artifacts that he had brought along with him.
BAM!
The necromancer was blown away by the attack, his body skipping across the surface of the water close to a dozen times before plunging into the depths.
Adam remained standing in his position, however, there was a deep frown on his face. Although his attack had connected, something felt off.
"Defensive artifact?" He murmured.
But the next moment, he rushed towards the other two necromancers.
Now that Malcolm was momentarily out of the scenario, he had to take this opportunity and prevent these two from summoning whatever it was that they were.
He had a bad feeling that if he allowed them to complete the summoning, it wouldn't end well for him.
Especially, considering the fact that he was already up against three Rank 3 Magi. This was already too much for him to handle as he had only just advanced and hadn't consolidated his newfound powers yet.
Adam leaped off the surface of the water, spinning his staff mid-air, before hammering it down on his enemies.
With another resounding boom that echoed all around the place, the youth's staff once again connected, causing water to splash and large waves to form.
But once again, Adam felt something amiss.
His eyes narrowed as he saw his staff resting against a mana shield that had surrounded the two necromancers. The two didn't even bat an eyelid and continued to proceed with the summoning ritual, confident that Adam couldn't get past the barrier.
Meanwhile, the shield protecting them only showed a few cracks. That was all.
This is far stronger than a Rank 3 warding spell, Adam thought to himself as his expression turned grave.
These damned cultists sure have a lot of powerful artifacts with them!
His expression darkened and he couldn't help but think, Dealing with them is going to be more difficult than I'd imagined.
For the next few moments, he continued to slam the mana barrier with his staff over and over again. The small cracks on its surface gradually covered the entirety of the barrier.
Finally, Adam got into poisiton to land the final critical blow, but just when he was about to swing his staff, his eyes narrowed and he hurriedly retreated.
Just a split second after he had drawn back, several thick ice spears emerged from underwater and shot through the area where he had been earlier standing.
Then, Malcolm Morgan jumped from underneath and firmly landed before the two necromancers. His clothes were naturally drenched, but his face was unnaturally pale.
It would seem that Adam's previous attack had done some damage to him, after all.
He coldly gazed at the raven-haired youth in the distance, showing utmost vigilance. If he was careless even for a moment, then he would be the one to die here.
As much as he hated to admit it, Malcolm knew that he was no match for Adam all by himself.
Without shifting his gaze away from his opponent, he screamed in frustration, "How long are you planning to take?!"
"Almost done!" Said one of the necromancers.
The foreboding feeling in Adam's heart grew heavy. He gritted his teeth and once again shot forward, gathering a large amount of mana at the tip of his staff.
Seeing this, Malcolm had no other choice but to meet him head-on. He covered his chakrams with mana and bolted forward as well.
The clash between the two Magi caused large tidal waves to erupt, rippling outwards in all directions. This disturbed the other two necromancers only a little.
After exchanging several blows with Malcolm, Adam was finally able to deliver a perfect side-kick to the man's solar plexus, knocking the wind right out of him, and hurling him into the far distance.
Malcolm flew across the surface of the ocean, coughing blood from his mouth, finding it extremely difficult to breathe. However, his lips formed a wide grin.
He knew he had brought enough time for the summoning ritual to succeed.
Just before he plunged into the depths of the water again, he looked in the direction of the two necromancers and roared, "Summon the aberrant knight now!!"
Adam's heartbeat grew faster and faster as he ran across the surface of the water, going as fast as his body would allow him.
Just one more hit and the shield surrounding the two necromancers would be destroyed. Then, all he needed to do was take care of those two and disrupt the ritual.
Within a few seconds, he had already arrived before the barrier. He roared as he swung his staff, bringing it down on the shield one last time.
BAM!
The defensive shield finally shattered under Adam's relentless attacks—a fact that would take just about any knowledgeable Magus in Tron by surprise.
After all, the youth was only a Mana Vortex Magus, but the magical shield was a result of an artifact with a Rank 4 Mana Core spell inscribed on it!
The two necromancers stared in horror as Adam stood before them, radiating an overbearing amount of bloodlust.
They would have never expected the barrier to be broken.
However…
Their job was done. The summoning ritual was complete. And even as Adam's staff came crashing down on them, the grins on their faces never faded.
The two necromancers were thrown into the distance by Adam's attacks. However, the youth was in no mood to celebrate becasue even he knew that he was late.
BOOM!!
A pillar of dark energy emerged from the octagonal disk that the two necromancers had been working on earlier, causing Adam to involuntarily back away just from the sheer pressure.
When the pillar of light dissipated, a towering humanoid figure in armor came into view. It was more than three meters tall and radiated an extremely ferocious and deathly aura.
It was an undead creature, and its eyes glowed with an otherworldly light of madness!
Its face—the only thing not covered by his black armor—was covered in stitches, as if the faces of several different monsters were sewn together to form a single grotesque face.
"A flesh golemn," Adam muttered with a grave expression. "A Rank 3 flesh golemn made from different body parts of Mana Vortex Magi!"
The armored golem's gaze landed on Adam and it instantly designated him as the target that it must kill. The next moment, it conjured a broad sword and roared at him.
Not just that, the two necromancers from earlier had also now joined the battle, standing on each side of the golem, and staring at Adam with cruel intentions.
Finally, Malcolm emerged from underwater and took his position behind the youth. His lips curled into a cold smirk and he said, "You should have agreed when I asked you nicely. Now, I will make you wish you were dead!"
Adam did not respond. He stood straight. Tall and dauntless.
The staff spun in his hand as he prepared for what would be the toughest battle he had ever faced in his life.
He raised his chin and boldly declared, "Very well. Then I too shall unleash every spell in my arsenal. And know this… when this is all over, only I shall remain standing.
"Proud. Victorious."
