Shen He stood on the high platform, looking at the forest of cameras flashing below him.
Behind those lenses stood the whole world.
This was the moment Chaldea truly stepped into the global spotlight.
"Everyone," he began.
At once, the room fell silent, reporters freezing mid-motion, their heads turning as one toward the man standing tall under the lights.
"Chaldea is, indeed, an organization that does not originate from this world."
The room exploded with activity.
Every reporter stood up at once, the bright burst of camera flashes strobing across the space.
Speculation had long swirled around Chaldea—especially after the reappearance of Asgard on Earth. Many had guessed that Chaldea, too, came from beyond the stars. But now, Shen He had confirmed it.
An extraterrestrial force had not only descended to Earth but integrated into it—and gone so far as to form a company here.
Did this signal the dawn of a new era?
"Please calm down."
Shen He raised a hand, and his voice seemed to reach each person directly, as if bypassing the ordinary acoustics of the room.
Gradually, the reporters returned to their seats, their curiosity piqued and growing by the second.
The opening statement had been explosive. Now, anticipation filled the air.
"While Chaldea does not originate from this Earth, our creators were—and remain—human. Every one of our current leaders, including myself, is human. That is why the purpose of our organization has always remained the same as we stated from the beginning: the preservation of human civilization. We are, in essence, humanity's official continuity assurance organization."
"We believe—and hold unwaveringly—that humanity has the brightest potential across the interstellar expanse."
The crowd stirred again.
This revelation sent ripples through the audience. It wasn't just the people in the room—citizens across the globe were watching this broadcast live.
And when people are told of an alien civilization?
The first reaction is always fear.
Fear of the unknown. Fear of the imbalance of power. If they could arrive here while Earth couldn't reach them, it already proved a terrifying technological disparity.
Couple that with Hollywood's depictions of aliens, and real events like Thor's godlike might or Loki's invasion of New York, and public perception of extraterrestrials was anything but friendly.
But now, a human-led alien organization—Chaldea—stood before them.
A beacon of possibility: that humans had already set foot beyond Earth and were powerful enough to stand among the stars.
Meanwhile, inside the World Council, the atmosphere was tight.
"They're closing the gap between themselves and the rest of humanity," one member murmured.
"True. Whether it's a façade or reality, they are framing themselves as pioneers of humanity's interstellar step."
"We need to keep watching."
The sharpest minds were already reading Shen He's intent.
Labeling themselves as outsiders risked rejection. But claiming to be pioneers of humanity's expansion? That would earn reverence.
Shen He let the tension settle before continuing:
"Chaldea, as a continuity assurance organization, exists solely to protect the survival, development, and future of human civilization. For a long time, however, we refrained from interfering with human affairs or even revealing our presence. Why?"
It was a question many in the audience were already asking. One that had been brought up before—if Chaldea had always existed, why were there no records of them in ancient history? Why no legends like Asgard's?
"This, too, ties into our purpose." Shen He gave them the answer directly. "Human beings are remarkably complex. Though we live as individuals, we're inextricably connected. We feel joy, anger, sadness. We harm and heal. We build and destroy. We commit evil and pursue good. And precisely because of this, humanity holds infinite potential—Chaldea believes this complexity is the essence of that potential."
The room grew quieter as reporters and observers alike listened more intently.
"The so-called 'human principle' includes desire and destruction, evil and pain," Shen He continued. "These, too, fall under our guardianship. That is why we did not appear during humanity's darkest moments. Why we did not intervene in wars or genocides. Our role was to observe, record, and forecast—to step in only when extinction-level threats emerged. Until now."
"Now, the modern world faces a cascade of existential threats—natural, cosmic, and metaphysical. And so, we have come forward."
Shen He's logic was clear. Chaldea had always been there—as silent custodians. Only now, with the convergence of crises, did they emerge as actors.
But he made no mention of the multiverse—not yet. That concept was still restricted to a select few. Revealing it now would conflate their identity with other power players like Asgard, S.H.I.E.L.D., or the TVA, when their goal was to distinguish Chaldea's uniqueness.
As silence fell again, the crowd of journalists could no longer contain their questions.
Hands shot up. Voices overlapped.
The room became a cacophony.
A press conference in this country often suffered from this lack of order—freedom without structure.
"Please maintain order," Jeanne d'Arc, who stood beside Shen He, said softly.
Her voice was not loud, but her presence alone silenced the room in seconds.
Kind as she appeared, Joan of Arc was still the saint who bore a banner into war. With a subtle magical nudge, her words weighed heavily.
This was why Shen He brought her.
"You, the lady in the blue dress," Shen He pointed toward a reporter.
The woman stood up, visibly nervous and excited.
She inhaled deeply, then voiced the question everyone was thinking.
"Mr. Shen, what evidence do you have to prove what you've just said?"
A legitimate challenge.
A good journalist always doubts.
Verbal declarations, however impassioned, were no substitute for hard proof.
In other words, they needed more.
Shen He surveyed the room, eyes passing over each face before answering.
"What proof do you require? That we are extraterrestrial in origin? That we have been protecting Earth?"
The reporter didn't hesitate. "We need both."
"Heh." Shen He chuckled softly. "We have the evidence. Tony Stark has seen it. Steve Rogers has seen it. Many among you already know this. But ask yourselves—why are we holding this press conference?"
"Is it to justify ourselves? To parade our accomplishments? No."
He raised his voice.
"We are here to declare."
A declaration that echoed like a bell.
"To declare our identity. To declare our mission. Chaldea's purpose has been unwavering for centuries. That purpose needs no validation."
There was no need for Chaldea to seek approval.
Their mandate was to protect Earth—whether the world believed it or not.
And as Shen He made clear, this was not a courtroom hearing.
It was a proclamation.
The reporters fell silent again, his presence pressing upon them like a storm contained in human form.
And yet, as they returned to their desks, as the media dissected the conference, and as the world's brightest minds began their analyses—one truth began to emerge from the depths of Shen He's carefully measured words.
This wasn't the end of a revelation.
It was only the beginning.
Guarding humanity does not mean that Chaldea must side with conventional notions of good or order, nor does it imply they are beholden to public morality or the accusations that come with it.
As Shen He clarified earlier, the principles that Chaldea safeguards encompass not only order and peace but also chaos and entropy. Both are part of the natural evolution of civilization.
In the face of war and death, the Chaldeans may choose not to intervene.
In the face of doubt and public condemnation, they may remain unmoved.
Such a stance may take time for the masses to comprehend, but for the members of the World Council—those used to manipulating global narratives—it was immediately intelligible.
This was a warning.
A declaration wrapped in ideology—one that made it abundantly clear they would not bow to the pressure of public opinion or conventional diplomacy.
The World Council's chamber fell into a heavy silence before voices broke the tension.
"They're more dangerous than Asgard."
"Agreed. We cannot afford to antagonize them without formidable leverage."
"Any overt provocations must be avoided."
"We'll temporarily shelve the initiative, but we still hold assets that could provoke their caution."
"Seconded."
Their talk of danger did not imply Chaldea was a threat to the world's existence. Rather, it posed a threat to the Council—to their illusions of control and sovereignty.
The Chaldeans weren't bent on world destruction, but they wouldn't flinch from letting millions die if it served their broader equilibrium. They weren't bound by the humanistic line drawn at "acceptable casualties."
And the "fear" they referred to—
It was fear of losing relevance. Fear of being rendered obsolete by an organization that didn't need to participate in their shadow games.
Ironically, the World Council itself retained the capability to destroy the world, but what unsettled them was that Chaldea also could—and might do so, not out of malice, but out of logical calculation.
Meanwhile, Shen He continued with the press conference. Perhaps sensing the philosophical weight of his earlier statements, his tone lightened.
"Back to the main subject," he said, smiling faintly. "Beyond proclaiming Chaldea's principles and mandate, I know many are concerned about Loki's situation." He pivoted smoothly. "Loki is currently under our jurisdiction. Interrogation is complete. The good news? The number of individuals under his influence is well below three thousand—it's more akin to a 'Cthulhu-styled prank.' The bad news? His deeper intentions remain unclear."
The response from the room was minimal. After the earlier bombshells, this seemed like a mere footnote.
But Shen He wasn't speaking solely for the press anymore. His next words were directed squarely at the World Council.
"Due to Loki's status as Asgardian royalty, we cannot hold him indefinitely without triggering interstellar diplomatic tensions. Fortunately, we've reached a consensus with Asgard's crown prince, Thor. He has authorized us to negotiate with Earth's governments on Asgard's behalf regarding Loki's punishment."
"My personal recommendation? Given Loki's unpredictability, it would be safest to detain him within Chaldea until deliberations are concluded."
"But this decision is not tied to Chaldean principles," Shen He added, his voice softening again. "Those familiar with me know—when it comes to matters not involving principle, I tend to be quite easygoing."
Having said what needed to be said, Shen He gestured to Jeanne d'Arc, and the two exited the stage without entertaining further questions.
The virtual reality company's PR division promptly took over. Now heavily staffed with embedded S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives, the company's new infrastructure was solid—trusted by Shen He and tactically aligned with Chaldea's objectives.
While the press conference concluded on one end, a new meeting convened within the World Council.
"He's setting the stage for Fury."
"Could be Coulson's manipulation. Shen He places immense trust in him—nearly all of the virtual reality company is run by Coulson's people."
"Add in Stark, Rogers, and Romanoff—"
"Looks like Fury is pushing to hand Loki off under Asgardian pressure. We can't use public sentiment against them anymore."
"We'll give Fury the leeway he wants. But we'll need deeper intelligence."
The World Council recognized the press conference for what it was—a veiled ultimatum. But it wasn't a complete loss. At least now they understood that Shen He's trust in Nick Fury ran deep, and that the political weight of Asgard—via Thor—could still influence Chaldea.
As long as things didn't spiral into irreparable conflict, they were unwilling to escalate into outright confrontation.
At the same time—
Across the global network, the echoes of Shen He's speech rippled outward.
Keywords like "Chaldea," "Humanity Survival Guarantee Agency," and "Alien Strategic Influence" lit up trending charts.
The global dialogue exploded. Discussion boards, news broadcasts, and social media were saturated. With the previous agitators of anti-Chaldea sentiment backing down, the virtual reality company's PR countermeasures kicked in.
First came the hero videos.
Footage of Guardians—helping civilians, stopping disasters, healing the wounded—flooded the net. Mixed with emotionally stirring background music and sharp editing, these clips began changing the tone.
It became harder to hate Chaldea when you saw what they actually did.
These were young heroes—Captain America at their helm—who traversed cities, saving lives without reward or thanks.
Even as accusations flew, they kept doing what they believed in.
As Shen He had said: humans were flawed. They were angry, selfish, and often cruel. But the Chaldeans saw these traits as part of humanity's complex existence—and they would continue to protect it regardless.
As public opinion subtly began to pivot, waves of guilt, confusion, and reconsideration washed over the masses.
The tide was turning.
But while the world reacted, Shen He remained one step ahead.
Because before he saw the results, before the winds of perception shifted—
He saw him.
The very next day, Nick Fury arrived at the virtual reality company's HQ. Wearing his signature black trench coat, he was flanked by two agents clad in black suits and mirrored sunglasses.
Shen He had been expecting him.
