Chapter 32: COUNCIL OF BONDED FIRE.
The throne room had become a war chamber.
The crown had not yet been claimed.
But the flame it represented—authority, legacy, chaos—now pulsed in the air like a second heartbeat.
And in the center of it all, sat Ryon.
Not on the throne.
Not yet.
But surrounded by five women whose loyalty came not from chains, but from choices.
Ryon placed the broken crown on the table. Around him sat:
Kaela – War Priestess, sharp-tongued and sword-fast.
Elara – Ashbearer, haunted but loyal.
Lyria – High-flame Oracle, grace wrapped in fury.
Neive – Scholar of lost systems, eyes filled with quiet knowing.
Shaera – Beast Queen of the Iron Wastes, fire in her blood, hunger in her stare.
Each had bled for him.
Now they would fight with him.
Kaela slammed her gauntlet on the table. "Let me duel her. That witch Vireya isn't half the flame I am."
Ryon shook his head. "This trial is symbolic. The throne won't accept anyone but the one it deems 'worthy.' It has to be me."
Lyria folded her arms. "Then she'll throw everything at you. Cursed flames. Bound weapons. System cheats."
"She won't fight fair," Shaera growled.
"I won't either," Ryon said simply.
> System Scan: Throne Flameblood Duel Conditions
– One Primary Combatant (Ryon)
– Four Flames May Channel Boosts
– System Will Attempt Disruption
– Matriarch Bond Must Remain Hidden
– Victory Unlocks: System Root Layer Access, Title of Sovereign Flame
– Failure = Death + System Seizure of Bonded Threads
Neive spread a tactical map of the arena.
> "We'll be stationed around the Four Pillars of Ember. Each pillar allows one of us to channel our essence into you during combat. But if any of us falter—Vireya's corruption will break the link."
Assignments:
North Pillar (Aggression) – Kaela: to boost Ryon's attack.
South Pillar (Soulguard) – Elara: to shield his essence from corruption.
East Pillar (Vision) – Lyria: to offer prophetic foresight.
West Pillar (Code Break) – Neive: to counteract System interference.
Shaera crossed her arms. "And me?"
Ryon met her gaze. "You're my wild card. If the arena breaks… you're the one who pulls me out."
She grinned. "Damn right."
As the council dissolved, and the women began prepping their stations, Ryon remained in the hall.
Staring at the throne.
He didn't want to rule it.
But he couldn't let Vireya, or the System, rule them.
Neive lingered behind, whispering as she passed:
> "You're not the only one the System fears."
> "Somewhere, it has a queen of its own."
> System Internal Broadcast (Hidden):
"He approaches threshold. Initiate Contingency Flamekill Protocol."
"If he wins, revoke Thread Autonomy."
"Too many hearts burn for him."
In the distance, the arena prepared.
The throne watched.
And the final duel for the South's soul drew near.
