Harry Potter: Return From Future

Chapter 49: Dumbledore's Thoughts

Minerva after weaving through numerous corridors of Hogwarts brought Harry in a room near the headmaster's office. During the entire course of journey, Minerva maintained a strict course of silence.

A pair of table and chair was placed at the centre of the room.

"Mr. Potter," she said sternly. "For the time being, you will continue your detention in this room."

"I am going to attend the feast and witness the sorting, if any of it is left," she added. "After which, I will come and fetch you."

With this, she turned around and was about to walk out of the room when Harry's voice interrupted her.

"Professor Minerva," said Harry. "I understand that, I am not allowed to participate in the sorting ceremony and the feast, though this is also not correct."

Before Harry could continue, Minerva cut across, "And why it is not correct, Mr. Potter?"

"Because my crime has not even been established till now," replied Harry. "You all have just assumed that I have committed what I have been accused of."

Minerva turned speechless at this, and though, she understood that what Harry spoke was logical, it made no sense.

Harry continued with amusement, "And I raise no objection to the course of actions you have taken."

"But I wonder, if keeping me hungry does even sound good?" Harry asked pitifully.

Whatever words Minerva had in her mind was struck in her mouth. After a moment of contemplation, she sighed deeply and replied, "You can have your dinner while you wait in the room."

"But do not expect it to be like a feast," she added and walked away.

Moments later, Harry's table was filled with one serving of dinner. It was clear that Minerva had instructed the house elves of Hogwarts to do so and even though they were to hide themselves from Hogwarts' student, Harry with his senses had easily felt them.

Harry took his seat on the wooden chair and gazed at the dinner serving at his table.

"This does not suit my status at all," he muttered dryly.

"Dobby," said Harry. "Dinner for me please."

There was nothing for the first few moments but after which, accompanied by popping sound, Harry's table was filled with numerous other dishes, which naturally suited his 'status'.

While Harry was being brought in the room, Dumbledore went through the many important announcements he had to make that day.

These included the cancellation of Quidditch and the house cup and the hosting of the Triwizard tournament.

A sense of exhilaration and excitement followed his announcement as the whole of Hogwarts was plunged into a new found anticipation.

But Dumbledore was in no mood to follow through that excitement. Contrary to what one would have expected, he was in a foul mood.

And the reason- Harry Potter.

It all had started when he had received an urgent and important message from Arthur about Harry breaking the head of a Slytherin boy.

Although, this in itself was a shocking news, its severity was further increased when Arthur's message informed that Amelia Bones was on her route towards Harry's compartment.

With the kind of woman, she was, it did not require a genius mind to guess what she would try to do.

If she had not been present, Dumbledore would have let Arthur or any other person manage the situation. But he knew, that rare few people could handle Amelia and Arthur was definitely not in the list.

And thus, to avoid the feared situation, Dumbledore had to discard his high and mighty appearance; his appearance of being aloof from worldly matters unless very necessary and had to make a public appearance to stop Harry from being taken by Amelia.

Dumbledore's pride had naturally had been hurt and his decades of experience screamed at him at something unforeseen coming towards his way.

First, his elder wand had vanished without a trace and though Dumbledore had been able to maintain his sanity at this… he had been desperately searching for it. Even if he did not get it back, he wanted to know its whereabouts.

Secondly, the sudden appearance of that mysterious and powerful wizard had raised many alarm bells. That man had been too powerful… monstrous. The way he had dealt with the death eaters was chilling and he had been ruthless and decisive.

And finally, Harry's action… complete opposite of his usual nature was another enigma. And this along with his personal appearance was going to be on the front page of all the major newspapers.

But in spite of all this happening, Dumbledore also felt a sense of relief. After all, Harry… the biggest stakeholder of all the politics and power game was back in his turf… in 'his' Hogwarts.

"Minerva," said Dumbledore as soon as the feast was over. "Please escort, Harry in my office."

Minerva gave a curt nod and walked away briskly.

Meanwhile, Dumbledore removed the frown on his face and replaced it with his usual grandfatherly smile and twinkling eyes as he reappeared in his office.
