Chapter 138: Tsunade's return, training, and a feast
The return to Konoha was met with celebration and relief.
The village had been on edge since the death of the Third Hokage, and now, with the legendary Tsunade Senju stepping up as the Fifth Hokage, hope was rekindled.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the Hokage Tower, where Tsunade, clad in the Hokage robes, stood before the gathered shinobi.
Her sharp golden eyes swept across the village as she declared, "I will protect this village and its people. This is my home."
The crowd erupted into cheers.
Tsunade wasted no time.
Her first act as Hokage was to heal Sasuke Uchiha and Hatake Kakashi, both of whom had been left in critical condition after encountering Itachi Uchiha.
Sasuke, still unconscious, stirred awake, his Sharingan flickering to life as he blinked blearily at the ceiling.
Kakashi, sitting up with a sigh, stretched his muscles and looked over at Tsunade. "Well… that was unpleasant."
Tsunade smirked. "That's what happens when you mess with a high-tier Mangekyō user."
Kakashi just sighed, already dreading the new training regimen he'd be putting himself through.
Tsunade sat behind her Hokage desk, fingers tapping against the wood.
She assessed three folders: Naruto Uzumaki, Shikamaru Nara, and Sasuke Uchiha.
After careful thought, she issued her first set of promotions and ranks:
Naruto Uzumaki – Promoted to ChūninShikamaru Nara – Promoted to ChūninSasuke Uchiha – Remains a Genin (However, only Tsunade knew this decision.)
She couldn't afford to promote Sasuke while he was a flight risk.
For now, he would remain a Genin, giving the village more control over him.
Training Begins – Harry and Team Seven
With things settling down, it was time for training.
Kakashi, Jiraiya, and Harry took responsibility for Team Seven's progress.
Jiraiya and Kakashi trained Harry privately, while Harry focused on guiding Naruto and Sasuke.
With Kakashi and Jiraiya as teachers, Harry learned:
Elemental Manipulation – Understanding how to shape chakra into natural elements.Shape Manipulation – Refining how chakra is molded for different jutsu.Sealing Techniques – Delving deeper into Fūinjutsu, learning to create Shiki.Flying Thunder God Technique (Hiraishin) – Developing his own Shiki formula for instant teleportation.Naruto's Growth – A Step Closer to Mastery
With Harry's guidance, Naruto made rapid progress.
One-Handed Rasengan – Harry adjusted Naruto's technique, allowing him to finally perform the Rasengan with one hand.Fūinjutsu Training – Naruto began experimenting with seals, though his first few Shiki prototypes failed.Elemental Training – Naruto discovered his wind chakra nature, but admired fire-based techniques, especially Chidori.
Harry simply turned to Kakashi and Jiraiya and asked, "Can he train with clones?"
Kakashi smirked. "With his chakra reserves? Absolutely."
Thus, Naruto created hundreds of clones, speeding up his training process.
By the end of the first week, Naruto had:
Successfully molded wind chakra.Started learning the mechanics of Chidori.Refined his Rasengan control.Sasuke and Sakura – Strengthening Their Skills
While Naruto focused on elemental training, Sasuke and Sakura had their own paths to follow.
Harry personally trained Sasuke, focusing on:
Sharpening his Sharingan abilities.Helping him control his emotions and trauma.Teaching him strategy beyond 'attack first, ask later'.
Harry didn't push him too hard but slowly worked on Sasuke's hatred.
The goal was clear—break the cycle of revenge before it consumed him.
Under Tsunade's guidance, Sakura:
Strengthened her body through chakra-enhanced strikes.Began learning medical ninjutsu.Studied genjutsu theory and tactics.
Her control over chakra was far better than her teammates, making her a natural for medical ninjutsu.
After weeks of rigorous training, the growth was undeniable.
Harry mastered advanced chakra techniques and fūinjutsu.Naruto refined the Rasengan and began wind manipulation.Sasuke gained better Sharingan control and emotional awareness.Sakura strengthened her medical and genjutsu skills.
For the first time in a while, Team Seven was progressing together.
And soon enough… their next mission would test everything they had learned.
Naruto wiped sweat off his forehead as he finished his morning training. His control over chakra had improved significantly, and his Rasengan was almost perfect. Just as he was about to grab a drink, a masked ANBU landed in front of him.
"Uzumaki Naruto, the Hokage has summoned you."
Naruto blinked. "Huh? Granny Tsunade? Why?"
The ANBU didn't answer, merely vanishing in a swirl of leaves. Naruto scratched his head but shrugged. "Eh, guess I'll find out!"
Naruto entered to see Tsunade, her hands folded under her chin, and Shizune standing beside her with Tonton in her arms.
"You called for me, Granny?" Naruto asked.
Tsunade's eyebrow twitched at the nickname, but she let it slide.
"Naruto," she said seriously, her golden eyes locked onto him. "After reviewing your performance in the Chūnin Exams and your recent mission with Jiraiya, I have come to a decision."
Naruto straightened, his heartbeat quickening.
Tsunade reached for something on her desk and placed a Chūnin vest in front of him.
"Congratulations, Naruto. You are now officially a Chūnin of Konoha."
Naruto's eyes widened. "Wait, really?! I did it?! I'M A CHŪNIN?!"
Tsunade smirked. "You earned it."
Naruto snatched up the vest and held it up like it was the most precious thing in the world. His hands trembled slightly. He had worked so hard for this.
"GRANNY, YOU'RE THE BEST!" he yelled before tackling Tsunade in a hug.
Tsunade grunted as she was nearly knocked out of her chair, but she patted his head.
"Alright, alright! Don't get sappy on me, brat!"
Shizune chuckled. "He really does deserve it, Lady Tsunade."
Naruto quickly pulled on the Chūnin vest, and it fit perfectly. He grinned, feeling ten times stronger just wearing it.
After leaving the Hokage's office, Naruto ran through the village, searching for his friends.
First, he found Team Seven at the training grounds.
"GUYS!" he called out.
Sasuke looked up from his training with Harry, and Sakura turned toward him as well.
Kakashi, who had been lazily reading Icha Icha, raised an eyebrow. "What's got you so excited, Naruto?"
Naruto puffed out his chest and proudly pointed at his vest.
"Check it out! Your boy's a Chūnin now!"
Sakura gasped, eyes sparkling. "Naruto! That's amazing!"
Sasuke gave him an appraising glance and nodded. "Hn. About time, dobe."
Harry smirked. "Well, look at you, moving up in the world. Guess I'll have to start calling you Chūnin Naruto now, huh?"
Naruto grinned widely. "Heck yeah!"
Kakashi gave an eye-smile. "Congratulations, Naruto. This is a big step forward."
Before Naruto could bask in his victory, Jiraiya appeared with a loud "Oi!"
"Kid, I heard the news! We're celebrating. Ichiraku's, my treat!"
Naruto froze.
His eyes went blank. His brain short-circuited.
"Did you… did you say…"
"Yes, kid. Unlimited ramen on me," Jiraiya confirmed, laughing.
Naruto disappeared in a blur of motion, grabbing Sasuke, Sakura, Harry, and Kakashi by the wrist and dragging them toward Ichiraku's at full speed.
Ichiraku Ramen was bustling when Team Seven, Jiraiya, and Harry arrived.
Teuchi, the owner, grinned when he saw Naruto. "Ah! Naruto, my best customer! What's the occasion?"
Naruto slammed his hands onto the counter. "I GOT PROMOTED TO CHŪNIN!"
Ayame clapped excitedly. "That's amazing, Naruto! Congratulations!"
Jiraiya smirked. "Alright, kid. Order whatever you want."
Naruto's eyes gleamed. "Teuchi-ossan… the usual… but make it TEN bowls!"
Sasuke sighed. "Here we go again…"
Harry chuckled. "I think I'll try one myself."
Kakashi nodded. "I'll have one as well."
Sakura, knowing she couldn't out-eat Naruto, ordered just a small bowl.
Jiraiya sat back, watching as Naruto devoured bowl after bowl like a madman.
"You know, Naruto, a Chūnin needs to eat properly," Jiraiya teased.
Naruto swallowed another mouthful and grinned through a mouthful of noodles. "This is proper eating!"
Harry laughed. "He's got a point."
As the night went on, Team Seven, Jiraiya, and Harry enjoyed their meal together, celebrating Naruto's achievement.
For a while, there were no battles, no missions, and no worries—just laughter, friendship, and ramen.
And Naruto, the newly promoted Chūnin, couldn't be happier.
