Chapter 172: Adam vs Alustus VIII
"Lalala... Father told me to get Berreta... I mustn't fail, lalala...
The small Sidhe flew through the air, doing minor tricks like swirling around as she her tiny wings leaving trails of shimmering mist behind her. She sang softly to herself, voice bright and innocent, skipping through the castle corridors like a child in a dream.
"Lalala... Father will beat the scary man... Father will come out on top, lalala...
Her voice echoed against the stone walls, bouncing gently like a lullaby.
She twirled midair, spinning happily, completely unaware of the shadow following close behind.
She passed many more monsters on her way to Alcey's room, most of them fellow brothers and sisters of the same monster species.
The room where Berreta was located was just ahead.
As she approached, she heard voices coming from just behind the door.
"Ahhh… I can't believe I got killed by some unknown bastard."
"Hehehe, don't fret over it. He only destroyed your physical body. In three days, you'll be good as new."
Another woman replied as she continued placing her hands on a floating black sphere, its surface riddled with glowing cracks of light.
The damage was clearly from Adam's last attack, but she was thankful her Soul Realm had remained intact.
Albeit damaged as well.
Much of the residual shockwave and explosive force had bled into the sphere when the attack went off, causing both external and internal trauma to the vessel.
Still, the orb floated steadily above a stone pedestal in the center of the room, and Berreta's hands glowed with a comforting black light as she worked.
Slowly, the many fractures began to fade, and the Soul Realm belonging to Alcey gradually began to heal, painfully slow, but healing nonetheless.
Compared to before, when her condition was on the verge of total collapse, this was progress. Had Berreta not acted when she did, Alcey would have truly died.
As the healing continued, Berreta suddenly sensed an approaching presence just beyond the door.
She didn't need to turn.
Just as the person was about to knock, the door creaked open by an invisible force, and a small Sidhe zipped into the room, fluttering quickly toward Berreta.
"Lalala... I made it."
The small creature sang cheerfully as she fluttered into the room.
Naturally, both Berreta and Alcey took immediate notice of her arrival.
Even in her current damaged state, Alcey was more than capable of seeing and hearing what was going on.
Recognizing the little Sidhe, Alcey spoke in the same affectionate tone she often used when referring to Alustus.
"What brings you here, little one?"
The small Sidhe replied without hesitation.
"Father sent me to fetch Berreta."
"…Darling sent you?"
"Husband is calling?"
Both women echoed the realization in unison, their voices overlapping in concern.
The Sidhe nodded innocently.
"Yes... He is having a lot of trouble beating the scary man who attacked us. A lot of us have died already… Father seems tired too, so he wanted me to come get you."
Hearing that, both Berreta and Alcey stiffened with worry. Alcey was the first to speak, her voice tense.
"If he had to send a proxy instead of contacting us telepathically, then he must really be stretched thin right now… Damn it, we need to help him. Fuck, just who the hell is that bastard that did this to me?"
Berreta, ever the more composed of the two, wore a worried expression as she responded calmly.
"Does it really matter? If one person can cause this much damage and push Darling this far, then they're clearly a dangerous force to be reckoned with."
"Darling has plenty of enemies, some even stronger than him...but for someone to attack us here, in his territory? Whoever this is must be confident they can win."
"Ahhh… how disgraceful."
Alcey muttered, her voice trembling.
"To think I can't even help my husband when he needs me most…
As she spoke, the black, star-like orb containing her Soul Realm pulsed softly with each word.
Berreta reached out gently and tried to reassure her.
"Have faith in the man we chose as our mate."
She said with out must confident.
"The enemy may be strong, but Darling still has cards left to play. Though we don't know who this man is, also it makes me wonder if there are other Sidhe clans… Why did that man resemble the king so closely?"
She asked confused by Adam's Sidhe form.
To which Berreta replied, saying.
"No clue. Doesn't matter either way either."
Alcey replied, her voice heavy with frustration.
Then, more quietly, she added.
"Just go, Berreta. Leave me be and get to husband's side before it's too late."
"Mmm… hehehe…
Berreta smiled softly as she withdrew her hand from Alcey's floating black hole like body.
As she said.
"I'm not finished healing you yet. But I'll continue once I return. As things stand, you're stable enough not to die."
With a final glance back at Alcey, Berreta turned toward the small Sidhe and gave a nod.
"Lead the way, little one."
The childlike fairy smiled brightly, unaware of the death coiling just behind her.
"Of course, Lady Ber...
SHHLLLCKK!!
GRRHHHHAAAGHHHHH!!
The shriek of metal piercing flesh tore through the air.
Alcey flinched at the calling of the horrific sound
While Berreta mentally froze.
The cheerful Sidhe girl's voice choked mid-sentence as a large jagged blade erupted from her stomach, slicing clean through her abdomen and chest.
Blood gushed out in hot, arterial sprays, staining the stone walls and cobbled floor in a flood of red.
Her tiny hands trembled as she looked down at the steel impaling her.
Then her head turn, the person before her look strange but he was as Sidhe or that the energy she feels from him.
Her eye open wide, the horror of the situation setting in.
"W-Why?...
Her voice cracked, confused, afraid, and betrayed that one of her fellow brothers of the Sidhe race would actually do this to her.
But before she could express her emotions more.
The sound of thunder erupted in the room as it started to glow red.
CRAAACK!!
A thunderclap of red lightning detonated from within her body, ripping through her insides like a living bomb.
Her eyes rolled back in pain, as she began foaming and bleeding from the mouth.
Her limbs convulsed violently, as her flesh began to rapidly expand.
Then she exploded, violently, in a shower of boiling blood, bone shards, and charred viscera.
Chunks of flesh slapped against the walls. Fragments of her skull bounced across the floor. Blood drenched Berreta's face and hair in thick, steaming ribbons, as peice of the dead Sidhe intense dangled at the side of her cheek as it slowly slid off making a soft wet thud on the floor below.
Alcey screamed in horror from her soul orb.
"YOU BASTARD!!"
Berreta on the other didn't, rather she place her hand at her cheek smearing Sidhe blood on her glove as it tremble in horror at the sight.
"Little one."
She whispered in an almost motherly affection, evident sadness ever present in her voice.
But apart from that she was too stunned to make another sound.
Her heart thundered in her chest, even now she remember the small Sidhe look of confusion and horror.
And the copper tang of blood that thickened in the air, only duel her anger and worry more.
"I am sorry."
Then, slowly, right before her eyes, a shape began to emerge from the haze of blood mist.
At first, it was only a flicker, distorted light bending in unnatural ways.
Then the silhouette of small six inch man manifested in full display.
Adam floated before the two, his bone-armor still steamed from the lightning rumbling across his body.
Black wings folded behind him like a reaper mantle, and his glowing crown flickered above his head in a calm way.
He said nothing at first, only stared before swiping his blade arm, swapping away the flesh and blood on it.
To the two monsters here, he was even more of monster than anything they had ever crossed paths with.
Cold.
Emotionless.
And uncaring to the destruction he had brought upon them, even now his killing intent was ever present, making the room tense.
So much so, that Berreta's usual calm demnaour shattered as her expression twisted in genuine fear.
Her fingers trembled.
Her thoughts raced.
The Sidhe death, invoke in her a horrific revolution:, she didn't want to believe.
'If he was here…
'If this man had made it past the King...
'Then...
Her voice cracked like glass, as the thought finally reach her in full affect.
"N-No… Darling… what have you done to Darling?!"
Adam cocked his head slightly, as though puzzled she even needed to ask, or why she even asked, although reality is often disappointing, sadly his past self is fighting the bastard, and is still very much alive.
But even then, he didn't come here to have some pointless conversation.
Rather his voice came low, casual, and equally indifferent.
As his focus went on the black hole orb, and said.
"Ahhh… so Tentacle Girl survived, huh?"
He smiled from behind his bone helmet.
"Well... It doesn't matter either way, I might as well kill you and her both for real this time. No hard feelings, that just how things are, now then I will make this quick."
