Chapter 215: The Price Of Weakness
"You came to the same conclusion as many seniors have done in the past. Some have come to check if there is any entrance to the Primordial Dimension in the lower worlds or not... and they found nothing.
After a while, it was assumed that the space here is fragile, and opening a rift for the entry to the Primordial Dimension would rip the whole world apart."
Jiang Hao nodded in understanding.
"There are many profound questions which have never been answered till date, like what's the point of having two realms? Why does the realm boundary even exist to block torrential spirit qi from entering the lower realm?
Why does the cultivation path even exist? Why does life even exist?... and there might be many more. Till now, these questions haven't been answered yet."
Jiang Hao again nodded. They really weren't something which could be answered unless someone had seen the origin of the universe itself, which was impossible as only after the origin did everything come into existence.
"I wanted to talk to you about something," Yao Ying spoke.
Jiang Hao nodded.
"It's about the lifespan of mortals and cultivators. You see, Heavens sees both in a slightly different way.
Since cultivators can increase their lifespan by cultivating and increasing their realm, Heavens is more lenient towards them when they use some treasure or specific resource to increase their lifespan.
But it isn't the case for mortals. As we talked before, mortals are cursed, and it is true through and through.
So, if a mortal tries to increase their lifespan using treasure and specific resources, they might succeed for some time, and if all goes well, they can live up to thousands of years. But Heavens isn't totally blind."
Yao Ying said the last sentence while looking above, as if she was seeing the heavens or maybe far beyond them...
"There will come a time when Heavens will impose its judgment, and it wouldn't be just death, but total annihilation from the reincarnation cycle."
Jiang Hao wasn't sure why Senior Yao was telling him about this, before sudden understanding dawned upon him—his mother.
"So tell me, what do you want to do? I have a way to at least give your mother five hundred years. That way it will be enough time to find some alternative to increase her life further. How long, I don't know, or maybe we won't find any alternative. So it's a risky endeavour."
Jiang Hao mulled over it quietly. Just for five hundred years of lifespan, he didn't want to put his mother in danger of total annihilation. Not to mention, due to his cultivation, he wouldn't be with her all the time. Living most of her life alone would be torment in itself.
Also, he doubted his mother would accept it. He knew his mother well.
"Senior, My mother definitely won't accept it."
Yao Ying nodded. She had expected as much. She just wanted to tell him about the way, what he decided was up to him.
Their journey continued... Meeting bandits had become a common occurrence by now. Jiang Hao had started to practice his sword way while walking. They went from city to city while also stopping at some places for cultivating.
Today they had stopped at an inn. It wasn't in a city. This area was territory of some big family, and they were sitting and being served food. It had been a while since they had eaten, so Jiang Hao decided to eat.
He had found that Senior Yao liked eating new dishes, so they always ate after some time, but right now the situation was little amusing to say the least.
The whole inn had been sealed Yan Clan, and no one was allowed to leave. If they tried to do so, they would be declared enemies, and they would be attacked too.
Jiang Hao didn't care about any of this, but it seemed like because of this situation, they wouldn't be getting any food now.
"To think Yan Clan would really attack the Luofeng Family."
"I don't find it shocking. Everyone already had an inkling this would happen. Luofeng Family should have left this spirit vein. They are too weak to keep holding it, not to mention Yan Clan has grown stronger in these days. Their Ancestor has reached Void Reversion Realm."
"I thought that was just a ruse they created, but looks like I was wrong. Wasn't that young master of Yan Clan pursuing the third young miss of Luofeng Family? Looks like his wish is going to be fulfilled now."
....
Various discussions were going around, so Jiang Hao easily understood the entire scenario.
Looks like this Luofeng Family is holding the most precious territory in this whole region, and because of this, the Yan Clan had attacked them when they were strong enough to do so.
Usually, he wouldn't care about meddling in someone else's issues, but this time he was indirectly involved.
It's not about the food. Since they didn't get any, it was time to leave, and given the scenario, Yan Clan would definitely attack them.
"Senior, looks like we won't be getting any food here. We should leave."
Yao Ying was watching the sunset and nodded while standing up. Jiang Hao stood up.
The whole inn became quiet. All the cultivators present here looked towards them. All of them got shocked to see their cultivation realm—it was only Qi Refinement Realm.
This inn only accepted cultivators as customers, so Jiang Hao had decided to go with Qi Refinement Realm.
"By any chance, you didn't hear what that Yan Clan cultivator said?"
One of the cultivators, who was in Core Formation Realm, spoke with a little annoyance. Even with his cultivation realm, he didn't dare to leave, much less two Qi Refinement Realm cultivators.
Jiang Hao and Yao Ying moved towards the door without paying any attention to the Core Formation cultivator. This made the cultivator even more angry. He was already quite dissatisfied with Yan Clan forcing them to stay inside, and now even two Qi Refinement cultivators were ignoring him.
"You bastards!" He immediately brought out his saber and slashed towards the leg of Jiang Hao, as he was nearest to him.
Jiang Hao sighed. He had lowered his cultivation realm to that of a mortal from the start to see the world in its truest form.
In front of strength, everyone changes their approach, and they act instead of being their natural self. He had to say, as a weakling, he had gone through a lot of troubles just because of how he acted with indifference.
He shook his head and used the sword to slash behind, which he carried with himself instead of in his ring. The slash was simple, but the result was impactful.
