Chapter 9: Chapter 9: The Slime Incident
The day had started like any other. Izuku Midoriya was walking home from school, his mind buzzing with thoughts of the UA entrance exam and the training he still needed to complete. His quirk, Herculean Strength, had grown exponentially over the years, and he was confident in his abilities. But even so, he knew the road ahead would be challenging.
As he turned a corner, he noticed a crowd gathered in the distance, their voices raised in panic. Smoke billowed into the air, and the sound of explosions echoed down the street. Izuku's instincts kicked in, and he broke into a run, weaving through the crowd to get a better look.
What he saw made his blood run cold. A massive, sludge-like villain was rampaging through the street, its gelatinous body shifting and writhing as it lashed out at anyone who got too close. But what truly horrified Izuku was the figure trapped within the villain's body—Katsuki Bakugo.
Bakugo's face was twisted in rage and desperation, his hands sparking with explosions as he struggled to break free. But the slime was too much for him. It clung to his body, suffocating him, and no matter how hard he fought, he couldn't escape.
The heroes on the scene—Death Arms, Backdraft, and Kamui Woods—were doing their best to contain the situation, but they were hesitant to act. "We can't get too close!" Death Arms shouted. "If we hit him too hard, we might hurt the kid!"
Izuku's heart pounded in his chest. He knew he shouldn't get involved. The heroes were there, and they had a plan. But as he watched Bakugo's struggles grow weaker, something inside him snapped.
Memories flashed through Izuku's mind—memories of his childhood, of Bakugo's constant taunts and challenges, of the fight they had just days ago. Despite everything, Bakugo was still someone he had known his entire life. And no matter how much they clashed, Izuku couldn't stand by and watch him die.
Without thinking, Izuku dropped his bag and sprinted toward the villain. The crowd shouted in alarm, and the heroes tried to stop him, but he was too fast. His muscles surged with power as he activated his quirk, his body moving with a speed and precision that defied logic.
As he reached the slime villain, Izuku's mind went blank. All he could think about was saving Bakugo. He didn't hold back. He couldn't. With a roar, he unleashed the full power of his quirk, his fist slamming into the villain with a force that shook the ground.
The impact was like a thunderclap. The air itself seemed to split as the punch connected, sending a shockwave rippling through the street. The slime villain's body exploded outward, its gelatinous form scattering in all directions. Bakugo was flung free, landing several feet away as the heroes rushed to his side.
For a moment, there was silence. Then, the crowd erupted into cheers. Izuku stood there, his chest heaving, his fist still clenched. He could feel the strain in his muscles, the ache of pushing his quirk to its absolute limit. But he had done it. He had saved Bakugo.
As the heroes tended to Bakugo and began cleaning up the scene, Izuku felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned to see All Might standing there, his massive frame towering over him. The Symbol of Peace's usual smile was gone, replaced by a look of awe and respect.
"Young man," All Might said, his voice low and serious, "that was an incredible display of power and bravery. But you must be careful. A quirk like yours… it's not something to be used lightly."
Izuku nodded, his heart still racing. "I… I know. I just couldn't stand by and do nothing."
All Might's smile returned, and he gave Izuku a firm pat on the back. "You have the heart of a hero, young man. Never lose that."
As the crowd began to disperse, Izuku noticed Bakugo sitting on the curb, his face pale and his hands trembling. The blonde boy looked up as Izuku approached, his usual scowl replaced by a look of shock.
"Deku…" Bakugo muttered, his voice barely above a whisper. "You… you saved me."
Izuku nodded, his expression calm but determined. "I couldn't let you die, Kacchan. No matter what's happened between us, you're still… you're still someone I care about."
Bakugo didn't respond. He just stared at Izuku, his usual bravado gone. For the first time in his life, he had no words.
As Izuku walked home that evening, he couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. He had proven to himself—and to everyone else—that he had what it took to be a hero. His quirk, his strength, his determination… they were all part of who he was. And now, more than ever, he was ready to take the next step.
The road to UA wouldn't be easy, but he was ready. He had the strength, the skills, and the heart to make it happen. And no matter what challenges lay ahead, he was ready to face them.
