Chapter 173: Rescue operation (6)
This small ball seemed to freeze in the air before suddenly spinning around.
As it spun, there was this smoke that suddenly came from the small ball.
I didn't hesitate at all to pull away from the boss as I knew that this small ball's smoke wasn't normal. The moment that this smoke spread, the thugs that had been on fire seemed to start to choke on something.
All of them grabbed their throats as if they were in pain and they had looks of disbelief on their faces in the end. It was as if they couldn't believe that the one that they followed would suddenly poison them like this.
"Aero." I said in a soft voice as gusts of wind came from behind me.
This prevented the smoke from reaching me and pushed it back to surround the boss.
However, it didn't seem like the smoke affected him at all.
In the first place, the boss was in the range of the smoke after it was deployed. If it was able to affect him, it would have affected him a long time ago.
The fact that he was able to stand in the poison smoke without anything happening was more than enough to show that he had a way of dealing with the poison smoke.
But now that I had revealed myself, he immediately focused on me.
Even though there were the burning corpses of the thugs that had been his subordinates around him, he didn't even spare them a single glance.
That was just how focused he was on me.
After a long silence, he finally asked, "How did you find this place?"
I didn't respond as I waited to see if he would do anything, but it didn't seem like he was going to pull out another magic item with the way that he stood there. Instead, I could sense that there was something off about the way that he just stood there.
So after a few seconds, I waved my hand again to send blades of wind at him.
These blades of wind didn't make contact with him when they reached his body, instead they went right past him.
"Illusions, huh?" I said as I narrowed my eyes to look around me.
But in the end…
"Lumine."
As soon as my voice fell, there was a bright flash of light that suddenly appeared around me.
From this flash of light, there was a figure that was revealed.
At the same time, this flash of light was just too strong for this figure to ignore and they had no choice but to raise their arm to cover their eyes.
I took advantage of this moment to send out fireballs and wind blades at this person.
Though the fireballs and wind blades didn't move separately, rather they moved together towards this person. When they hit, they hit at the same time with a large burst of flames.
This was a burst of flames that was much bigger than if just the fireballs hit that person on its own.
This was a simple application of providing more oxygen to the flames to make it stronger.
Once the flames disappeared, that person was revealed to have finally been injured.
There were holes that appeared in the cloak that they were wearing, showing that their magic barrier hadn't been able to block everything that had come at them.
"Huff, huff, huff." At the same time, it seemed that this person was struggling to catch their breath, as if they had used something big to keep himself safe.
From the holes in their mask, I could tell that there were some strange things about his body.
"So a demon, huh?" I couldn't help narrowing my eyes to look at this person once I saw what his identity was.
With the parts that were revealed, it was impossible to mistake this person as anything else.
That person narrowed his eyes to look at me before suddenly charging forward before I could react. The only thing that they said as they charged forward was, "Die!"
It didn't seem like he wanted to discuss this at all, it seemed like he just wanted to kill me to silence me.
I could sense the mana fluctuations that were coming from this person, showing that he was about to blow himself up just to get rid of all the evidence.
It seemed that he was quite loyal to whoever it was that was behind all of this, but it wasn't as if I wanted to blow up.
But before I could do anything, there was a single slash that came from behind this person.
Before this person could react, his head was already spinning through the air.
When it landed, it rolled a bit before coming to a stop.
There was still a fierce look on his face as if he hadn't reacted to being attacked from behind like this.
I couldn't help shaking my head with a smile before saying, "I could have handled that."
"I'm sure you could have, but we need to keep a proper corpse for them to discover." Yulian said as he appeared out of thin air.
He had hidden himself the entire time, watching everything happen and waiting for the right time to strike.
When the demon had been about to blow himself up, that was when he used a wind blade that he had been gathering the entire time to cut off his head.
The demon couldn't resist at all since this wind blade was made with very condensed mana.
So in the end, the demon's head had been separated from his body with one blow, even if there was a barrier protecting him.
I didn't bother arguing with Yulian since I knew that he was right.
Instead, I just said, "Let's clean up this place and get ready to leave."
He gave a nod, but he looked at the pile of corpses in the corner and said, "Help me with this first."
I looked at the pile as well before giving a nod in response.
