Hollywood:Starting out as an MV director

Chapter 212: Chapter 212: The Exhibition Frenzy

Madden and Puchi waited in line for fifteen minutes before finally entering the photography exhibition.

However, unlike them—young men dressed simply—most of the attendees were men and women over thirty, with a few elderly gentlemen in their sixties and seventies mixed in.

These white-haired old men seemed highly knowledgeable about photography, commenting on the photos while constantly taking pictures with their cameras.

As soon as Puchi entered, he rushed straight to the main attraction.

"Look! It's Angelina Jolie! My God!" he whispered excitedly, tilting his head up to examine the photograph.

The image depicted a soft black curtain, with Angelina Jolie lying nude on her side within its folds. The fabric wrapped around her, concealing key areas while leaving a gracefully curved S-shaped figure exposed.

"She's beautiful," Madden murmured in admiration, unable to look away.

Even though Angelina Jolie's signature curves weren't fully revealed, just seeing her physique and the golden-brown skin illuminated by the lights made the ticket price feel worthwhile.

But Puchi was frustrated. "Why isn't anything showing? Damn it, I want to see the headlights!"

"Young man, art is about subtle beauty," a white-haired, well-dressed elderly gentleman suddenly chimed in. "You can't focus solely on vulgar details."

"You're absolutely right," Madden nodded.

Puchi, however, scoffed. "I paid for my ticket to see the headlights. Otherwise, why would I spend so much money?"

"Buddy, what you're looking for is over there." Madden pointed, and Puchi dashed over like an eager puppy.

Madden and the white-haired gentleman followed and stopped in front of another photo.

This one was a top-down shot of Angelina Jolie. The photographer's lens captured her from the highest angle, making her face glow with a sacred aura under the lights.

At the same time, her curves were displayed in full detail. The majestic landscape of her chest was visible, down to the finest texture of her skin.

Of course, key areas remained hidden in shadows, but even so, just looking at the photo was enough to make Puchi's blood boil, his mind flooded with adult thoughts.

"This is the best one!" he grinned in satisfaction.

Beside him, the white-haired man remarked, "This photo is interesting. What do you think its shape resembles?"

Madden examined it closely, puzzled. "Like… the sun?"

"A soccer ball!" Puchi blurted out, clearly thinking about something completely different.

"No, no," the elderly gentleman pointed at the photo. "Don't you think it looks like a whale?"

Madden followed his finger carefully, then suddenly realized, "You're right, sir. Her head and shoulders resemble a whale turning over in the ocean."

"Yes, that's the deeper meaning of this photograph." The old man nodded in appreciation. "The photographer is using the human body to express a deeper environmental message."

"Really?" Poochie muttered. "I thought Ethan just liked taking nude photos."

"Haha! Well, young man, you're not wrong either. The beauty of women has been a timeless subject in this world. I quite admire the photographer's perspective—though it's not fully explicit, it's truly beautiful."

After finishing the Angelina Jolie series, they moved on to the next set: Anne Hathaway.

Unlike the previous series, these photos only showed Anne Hathaway's arms, legs, and a mirror. Yet, under the arrangement of a dark green curtain, these three elements cleverly formed a mountain-like landscape. Simple, yet intricate.

"If the previous Angelina Jolie series highlighted the beauty of body contours, then this set showcases the elegance of limbs. Arms and legs are not just parts of the human body; they are part of the world itself," the white-haired gentleman effortlessly interpreted the deeper meaning of the photos.

Madden and Puchi, however, still stared at the images, confused.

"Oh, I see," Madden said, though while he could feel the intent of the images, he couldn't articulate their meaning as clearly.

He began to suspect that this white-haired gentleman wasn't just an ordinary visitor—perhaps he was even a photography master.

Puchi, on the other hand, had lost interest and wandered off in search of more revealing photos.

Madden stayed with the old man, viewing several more images, and found himself learning a great deal.

As other attendees overheard their conversation, they quietly joined in, forming a small group that moved together, viewing the exhibition piece by piece.

Eventually, they ran into Puchi again.

The bespectacled man was now engrossed in Julia's series of photos—by far the most provocative ones yet.

In the image, Julia faced away from the camera, her legs spread wide apart. Her upper body was completely obscured by her lower half, making it impossible to see her face.

Dark shadows concealed her private areas, the darkness acting like a form-fitting garment that kept any inappropriate content hidden.

Only the full, round curves and smooth lines of her body were left in view.

Yet, even with these concealing shadows, the image was still incredibly stimulating.

The last time Puchi had seen such a pose was in an unspeakable type of film.

But this photograph was far more impactful than any adult film.

In those movies, nothing was left to the imagination—just a straightforward visual experience.

But in this photo, the shadows and concealment ignited endless fantasies in the viewer's mind.

Just the thought of it made Puchi feel like he was about to launch into orbit.

So much so that when Madden walked up beside him, he noticed Puchi suddenly clamping his legs together.

"Hey, buddy, why aren't you moving on to the next one?" Madden teased.

Puchi shot back, "What, have you been brainwashed by that old man? Did you turn into a devoted disciple of photography theory?"

"Don't say that. He's really skilled—I've learned a lot."

"Why don't you just become his student? Who knows, maybe you'll even become a photographer."

As Puchi said that, a sudden realization struck him.

"Yeah… why not? Why not become a photographer?"

"What did you say?" Madden looked surprised.

"I'm going to be a photographer! In the future, I want those actresses to stick out their butts in front of me while I take pictures. Wow, that sounds so exciting!"

At that moment, Puchi was instantly filled with hope for the future.

"Alright, alright, though I've never seen a photographer who needs to stand on a stool to shoot... But having a goal is a good thing. Congratulations."

"Haha, in the future, my works will be all over major bookstores. Don't forget to buy them when the time comes."

"Of course, buddy!"

Just as they finished speaking, they suddenly heard a heavy coughing sound.

Turning their heads, they saw that it was the white-haired old man.

"What's wrong?" Madden asked with concern, but before he could step forward, a woman suddenly rushed over and supported the old man.

"Mr. Sarkovsky, your asthma is acting up again… Hurry, use your inhaler."

The woman was about to help the white-haired old man leave when, in the next moment, a handsome man walked over.

"What happened to Mr. Sarkovsky?" His appearance was a typical mix of ethnicities, and Madden found him somewhat familiar.

"His asthma attack started, the medicine is in his backpack."

"Alright, let's go to the lounge. Security, call a doctor."

After the man and the old gentleman left, Madden finally remembered who this person was.

"Ethan! It's Ethan Li!" He turned to Pucci, exclaiming in shock.

"What?" Hearing that his idol had appeared, Puchi hurriedly looked around, but in the end, he only saw a figure walking away.

"Damn it, I looked too late! How does he compare in real life to how he looks on TV?" Like every fan who meets their idol, Puchi was curious about his appearance.

"Even more handsome," Madden answered truthfully. "I've never seen such a good-looking man on the street before."

"I actually missed it! Damn it!" Puchi was even more frustrated and could only look at photos to vent his emotions.

Meanwhile, Madden listened to the surrounding crowd as they discussed the white-haired old man.

Ten minutes later, he finally learned who he had just seen.

Sarkovsky, the most renowned photography theorist in America, author of The Photographer's Eye, Mirror and Window, Photography Until Now, among others.

He was also the former head of the photography department at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. During his tenure, he introduced numerous new talents and led many innovations in photography.

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that the current leading photographers in America, in one way or another, were either his students or deeply influenced by his theories.

To draw a comparison, Sarkovsky's status in photography was equivalent to that of Francis Ford Coppola in Hollywood.

So, if Sarkovsky praised Ethan's work, it meant Ethan would have no obstacles in the photography world moving forward.

Perhaps one could describe him as the best photographer in the film industry and the best filmmaker in photography.

And Sarkovsky's praise wasn't just verbal.

A week later, when LIFE magazine was released, everyone saw his comments on Ethan's photos.

"This is a bold and creative attempt. Before seeing these photos, I thought I was merely about to witness Hollywood stars' bodies.

"But upon stepping into the exhibition, what I saw were beautiful souls.

"Mountains, rivers, whales, dolphins, flowers, the sun, and the moon—each seemingly exposed photo carries infinite meaning. In my view, this feels more like a celebration of deconstructionism.

"When these beautiful bodies are used as part of the natural world, we begin to understand what photography can truly convey. We realize that wealth and fame are just a tiny part of this vast world.

"That's why I appreciate Ethan's expression and deeply respect the contributions of these Hollywood stars. Their photos will make everyone aware of something more important."

Although he didn't explicitly state what that "more important" thing was, everyone understood—environmental protection.

After this comment was published, photography fans and enthusiasts alike flocked to the exhibition to see it for themselves.

At the same time, Hollywood celebrities also rushed to the exhibition, as they realized attending had suddenly become a trend in the industry.

During interviews or on film sets, they were frequently asked if they had been to Ethan's photography exhibition.

If they were part of the photo collection, the media praised them for supporting environmental protection and children's welfare, calling them responsible stars.

If they attended the exhibition, they were said to have good taste and a strong sense of aesthetics.

And if they could offer unique insights, it would earn them goodwill from the public.

In short, attending the photography exhibition had nothing but benefits.

Not to mention, everyone was talking about it.

No Hollywood star could resist the easy publicity.

This led to actors filming abroad flying back to Hollywood just to see the exhibition.

The result was a positive cycle—

More celebrities gathered at the exhibition, attracting more media coverage, which made the exhibition even more famous, bringing in even more stars and reporters.

With this snowballing effect, Ethan's exhibition successfully landed on the front pages of major media outlets, and environmental protection and children's welfare became the most discussed topics of the moment.

However, the one who gained the most from this wasn't Ethan—it was his PR firm.

Because as his fame skyrocketed, even the rigid Academy voters became much more agreeable.

This was especially evident in Ethan's films.

Previously, people had mixed feelings about Memoirs of a Geisha.

But now that they knew the director was Ethan, the one who hosted the photography exhibition, they all nodded in approval, saying they would definitely go watch it.

Little Miss Sunshine also benefited.

So much so that when PR teams introduced the movie, they didn't even mention director Greta—they only mentioned Ethan.

Under such momentum, the annual Academy Awards finally arrived.

"Ethan, trust me, this outfit is perfect! Absolutely perfect."

Makeup artist Koshoan looked at Ethan in the mirror with admiration.

At that moment, Ethan was dressed in an Armani haute couture suit, which accentuated his charm and figure.

Just looking at him, Koshoan could already predict how many women would fall for this talented and handsome young man once the Oscars aired.

"It does look pretty good." Ethan turned slightly in front of the mirror, quite satisfied.

Now, he had already caught the attention of the fashion industry. Whether it was his watch, tie, shoes, or suit, they were all the finest selections from luxury brands.

And the endorsement fees for wearing them were worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Ethan had finally reached Hollywood's top-tier status.

His only weakness was the lack of a solid masterpiece to secure his place.

But after this Oscars ceremony, he would make sure the world knew about him and his work.

"I'll go with this outfit then."

Without rushing to change, Ethan stepped out of the dressing room.

On the sofa, Scarlett was sitting there.

This was the first time she had actively sought him out, breaking the agreement they had set between them.

And when she saw Ethan dressed up, she immediately gasped in surprise.

"My God, you've really amazed me."

"How do I look?" Ethan slowly approached her.

Scarlett glanced around, then leaned in and whispered into his ear, her lips brushing against it.

"I'm already excited."
