"Matuska, Raiden Mei seems stable. Bronya has found that Adam and a girl named Kiana are supporting her, psychologically."

The silver-haired girl's voice came through clearly, her tone calm as she reported to the holographic screen in front of her. 

On the display, her adopted daughter Bronya stood, her expression blank as always, yet her voice was mixed with an unknown emotion

"Did you convince him?"

She asked, even though she didn't expect a positive answer.

"...Nyet." Bronya replied after a short pause. "Bronya saw that he is very determined to stay by Mei's side."

As expected. She sighed quietly. 

Of course, he would refuse. Adam had never been easy to persuade—especially by her, someone whom he disliked.

"I see. Thank you for your hard work, Bronya"

She said, her voice softening

Even though Bronya hadn't managed to convince him, the information she brought back was useful. 

It confirmed what she already suspected: Adam's determination to stay.

"Matsuka…. Will you proceed with the plan while he is there….?"

The silver-haired girl asked quietly, her voice laced with a rare hint of concern.

"...Don't worry, Bronya. I'll find a way to get him out of Nagazora city"

"....."

"And… For Seele, try to convince him, again"

Bronya said nothing, her expression unchanged, but her silence spoke volumes.

…..

The call ended, and the holographic screen flickered off.

Left alone in the dim room, Cocolia leaned back in her chair, letting out a long sigh.

It seemed that she had to activate her backup plan…

'Why must you make things so difficult, Adam?' 

She thought bitterly.

She still couldn't understand why, after so many years, Adam had come to Nagazora City of all places. 

Was it fate? Coincidence? Or was he drawn there for the same reasons she had turned her attention to the city?

Impossible. He couldn't possibly know about Raiden Mei and that she had the potential to become a Herrscher

Perhaps he thought Nagazora was a nice place to finish his studies?

His meeting with Raiden Mei should be a coincidence

But why he is so close to her still remains a question-

Cocolia was sure that Adam is most likely attracted by Mei's beauty….

The boy that found her back then- so... broken yet so full of defiance- had grown into someone strong. 

And now, that same strength was the very thing opposing her.

Cocolia rested her head in her hands, her heart heavy with a mixture of regret and determination. 

…. It seemed that it was time to activate the reactor she placed in Chiba Academy

It was only backup. She originally thought that the two other honkai reactors she had already placed in Nagazora city would be enough for Mei to transform into a Herrscher

But, it seemed that transforming into a Herrscher- the apostle of god and the bringer of destruction- required negative emotions

And with Adam and the girl with the surname of Kaslana staying close to Mei…. Her plan failed

Cocolia thought that using fellow students and teachers would be enough to push Mei to the brink of collapse….

"....."

Whatever, it didn't matter.

Unfortunately, she still cares about Adam, and she can't bring herself to kill him in order for Mei to collapse and transform into a Herrscher

….But again, it didn't matter

Whatever happened next, it didn't matter. Her Titans would fix it

Nothing would stop her plan, not even Adam

"What do you want, little guy?"

Cocolia crossed her arms as she looked down at the child standing in front of her.

He was a boy, no older than 11 or 12, with tousled blonde hair and sharp blue eyes. 

Despite his young appearance, there was a strange maturity in his demeanor that didn't match his age.

"I am not 'little guy'!" The boy snapped, puffing out his cheeks in an indignant pout. "I'm Adam!"

"Oh, my apologies." Cocolia chuckled, amused by his outburst.

It was always fun to interact with children.

 "Then, Adam, what brings you here?"

"Ahem." Adam straightened his posture, clasping his hands behind his back like a tiny diplomat. "Beyond the fact that I'm currently homeless, I came here… seeking cooperation."

"Cooperation?"

Cocolia raised a brow, her voice laced with mild disbelief. 

She leaned back against her desk, folding her arms.

After all, what can a child offer her? She had already entered Anti-Entropy and was trying to make her way up in their ranks, so what could this little guy provide to cooperate with her?

But this boy had her attention now. 

Children didn't walk into her orphanage asking for "cooperation." Especially not in a tone as confident as his.

"I will tell you a way to increase a person's honkai adaptability" 

Adam grinned, saying something shocking that made her stumble in her steps-

"What did you just-?"

"Of course, in exchange, I want this method to be used on me, and I also want to temporarily stay in this Orphanage"

Adam tilted his head smugly, putting his hands on his hips and looking at her with triumph

"...."

Cocolia stared at him, her eyes wide with shock. 

She hadn't expected such a bold claim from a child, let alone one who looked so disheveled. 

For a moment, she wondered if he was just bluffing. 

But there was something in his tone, something in the way he carried himself, that told her he wasn't lying.

"Uffff"

Cocolia took deep breaths to calm herself down

"Alright, Adam. You've got my attention" She put on a strained smile, forcing herself to remain calm "But if you know how to increase Honkai adaptability, why haven't you used it on yourself already?"

She didn't ask how this guy knew about honkai or how he knew this so-called 'method'

Any parentless child who can survive without the support of an Orphanage till this age is not simple or 'normal'

And besides, Siberia was saved and cured by S-rank Valkyrie of Shicksal, Cecilia Scariac

Without the Valkyrie using herself as a sacrifice, almost all of the people of Siberia would have died of honkai corruption

So maybe this boy is one of those geniuses who remembered being infected by honkai and then inexplicably being cured? 

And after that, he might have looked into it deeper, or done his own research…..

Whatever the case, it doesn't matter. If this boy's method works, the benefits she would get are countless. For her, it was worth the risk

"Because it is difficult to do, obviously" Adam rolled his eyes, his tone dripping with exasperation. "And it requires a lot of money and resources. You think an orphan like me has any of that?"

He spoke as though her question was stupid, and as if the answer was obvious

"...."

Cocolia blinked, momentarily taken aback by his bluntness. 

"Fair enough."

Then, slowly, a small smile tugged at her lips. Her expression softened slightly as she looked at the boy

She had a soft spot for orphans…. And although she has only taken little girls with honkai resistance in her Orphanage…

-This boy should also have honkai resistance, right?

"Alright" She said after a moment's thought. "I'll agree to your deal. You can stay here, and we'll test your method. But don't think you're getting any special treatment, little guy."

She agreed to his deal. After all, she didn't have anything to lose. 

Even if it resulted in a failure, she should still get some precious experimental data

"Good" 

Adam said with a satisfied grin, placing his hands on his hips.

"By the way little guy, do you want to be my son-?"

"Ewww, no thanks"

The response was immediate as he interrupted her–

His face twisted in exaggerated disgust as he waved his hands in front of him.

"Huh?"

Cocolia was a bit dumbfounded at his dramatic reaction

She stared at him, genuinely dumbfounded by his dramatic reaction.

Usually, the orphans she took in were thrilled to have someone care for them, but this boy seemed to find the idea repulsive.

And also, he will stay in this Orphanage for the time being, so what's wrong with being her adopted son?

"..."

Before Cocolia could say anything else, from the corner of her eye, she spotted a small head peeking through the door.

"Hm?"

Adam also turned his gaze and saw the head

It was a little girl with blue hair and wide, azure eyes, staring nervously at them through the crack in the door.

"Hey, CocoDanzo!" Adam's eyes lit up, and he pointed at the now frightened girl, his excitement obvious. "Can I play with your daughter?"

"What's is up with that nickname, brat?" Cocolia's eye twitched "And call me 'Mom,' and maybe I'll let you—"

"Pwease, mommy~?"

Adam's voice turned sugary sweet as he tilted his head up at her, his blue eyes shimmering with mock innocence. 

His trembling lips completed the act, making him look like a cherub begging for candy.

"Ack!"

Cocolia clutched her chest, metaphorical arrows piercing her heart as she felt herself giving in to his ridiculous performance.

"S-sure, go ahead"

She stammered, waving him off to hide her flustered state

"Oh, thank you, mommy~"

Adam grinned mischievously as he winked at her. 

After that, he turned around and left

As she watched him chase after her daughter- Seele-, Cocolia pressed a hand to her chest to calm down her rapid heartbeat

"What a mischievous little guy"

She shook her head, imagining that from now on, the orphanage will get a lot more lively with Adam's presence
