Honkai: Star Rail – From the Moment Tom The Cat Became My Passenger

Chapter 17: Honkai: Star Rail – From the Moment Tom The Cat Became My Passenger [17]

Everyone watched, stunned, as Tom brought the Doomsday Beast crashing down with a single swing of his bat.

A look of utter astonishment shimmered in Himeko's golden-red eyes. Her lips parted and closed again—hesitant, uncertain—before she turned to Dan Heng and finally spoke in a soft voice:

"This... this is the 'remarkable side of Tom' you told me about?"

But to her surprise, Dan Heng was just as frozen as she was, a shock visibly flickering in his cool cyan eyes. Only after hearing Himeko's question did he snap out of it.

He took a deep breath, suppressing the flood of questions rising in his chest, and shook his head slightly.

"That's... not the part I meant."

"What Tom just did was beyond anything I imagined."

Hearing their exchange, March 7th blinked her wide, bright, and slightly clueless eyes and said matter-of-factly:

"Seriously, you two are acting like it's some huge surprise."

"Tom's always been like this, hasn't he? He bounces back instantly, he can pop a Voidranger with a pin... I thought you guys already got used to it."

At her words, Himeko and Dan Heng looked at each other—then both slowly shook their heads.

"I'll explain," Dan Heng said calmly.

"March, Voidrangers and Doomsday Beasts aren't on the same level—just like us: we can squash an ant easily, but it's a different story trying to crush an elephant."

"But Tom... Tom just did it."

March furrowed her brows, raised her fingers, and made a pinching motion—first imagining the size of an ant, then expanding her hand to mimic an elephant. Finally, realization dawned.

"Ohhh, I get it!"

"Tom really is amazing!"

Listening to the praise being showered on Tom, Yevenko nodded in satisfaction. Of course Tom was the best. He knew it.

And yet… a certain melancholy stirred in his chest.

By all rights, he should be the protagonist here—he was handsome, came from another world, clearly following a transmigration plotline... everything screamed "main character."

And yet, somehow, Tom was the one stealing the spotlight.

Damn it. At this rate, I'm being downgraded to comic relief. Might as well embrace the Path of Elation and become a troll—a living joke.

Except even if he did embrace comedy, there was no way he'd ever pull off the things Tom did.

He muttered under his breath, repeating March's words:

"Yeah... Tom really is amazing."

March 7th seemed to sense his dejection. Her brilliant iridescent eyes shimmered slightly as she gave Yevenko's shoulder a gentle pat, flashing him a sunny smile.

"Almost forgot—thank you for saving me earlier."

"You looked so cool back there."

Yevenko pressed his lips together, then said quietly:

"Thanks... for the kind words."

Himeko forced down her confusion about Tom and spoke gently:

"Let's set aside our questions for now. Our priority is to confirm the Doomsday Beast's status. I can sense it's not dead yet."

Everyone nodded.

Everyone... except Stelle, who pursed her lips, hesitant to speak.

Was she seriously the only one concerned about the giant, growing bump on the beast's head?

---

While the others discussed the Doomsday Beast's fate, Tom had only one thought in his mind: swing the bat.

Bonk—! Bonk—! Bonk—!

As long as there's life, there's bonking.

The bump on the beast's spherical head kept growing under Tom's relentless barrage. Eventually, the Doomsday Beast stirred.

It could feel its body responding again. Slowly, it began to rise.

This creature—crafted by the Antimatter Legion from the remnants of a Duskbeast, fused with the wailing bones of the Warforge—was not a low-level Voidspawn. It had emotions.

And not mild ones, either—its rage burned hot.

That round sphere atop its head was its eye. It stared calmly at the little creature standing above it, a tide of fury and confusion surging within.

Furious that such a tiny lifeform had knocked it down.

Confused... by that very same fact.

It would annihilate this insolent creature from the cosmos.

Somehow, Tom felt it—the overwhelming flood of rage rolling off the beast made him shiver uncontrollably.

Only then did he snap out of his fury over Yevenko's near-death.

Actually, he'd lost count of how many times he'd hit it. The anger had long since burned off.

Now, standing on the beast's massive, grotesque head, Tom finally looked down—and the sheer height made his little heart clench.

Then came the waves of seething rage. Tom stretched his neck and swallowed hard.

Gulp.

He forced a toothy grin, flashing all eight of his pristine white teeth.

Then, like a child hiding a broken vase, he hurriedly tucked the baseball bat behind his back, as if pretending he had nothing to do with what just happened.

Glancing at the massive bump, Tom cautiously extended a paw and tried to press it back down into the beast's head.

Back to normal. Nothing to see here.

But it didn't help. The fury coming off the Doomsday Beast only intensified.

In a panic, Tom pulled the bat back out and gave it one more whack—then turned and bolted toward Yevenko.

He vanished in a blur, so fast he left behind two floating cat ears where he'd just been.

Half a second later, the ears disappeared too.

ROAR——!!

A deep, guttural bellow echoed through the station. The Doomsday Beast responded to its rage... with a generous gift in return.

The orb atop its head began to glow, energy building within, laced with a terrifying, apocalyptic aura.

In an instant, it unleashed a devastating breath attack, aimed straight at the running Tom.

BOOM————!!

Himeko's pupils contracted sharply as she screamed,

"Tom, look out!"

Tom heard the roar and glanced back—only to see a terrifying beam coming right at him.

"AHHHHHHH——!!!!"

His eyeballs flew clean out of their sockets.

His legs, ears, and arms all launched off in different directions.

A second later, he reassembled.

Back in one piece, Tom scrambled to dodge.

In less than a second, he cycled through dozens of escape routes—

Dart right—no, bad idea. Back to center. Left? Still bad. Reset.

He froze in place, thinking hard.

Left. Definitely left.

He'd just started to dash left—

—when the monstrous breath engulfed him.

The next moment, where Tom had stood...

...was now a tidy little pile of black ash, arranged in a perfect triangle.

March 7th clapped her hands over her mouth. Her wide eyes shimmered with the beginnings of tears.

Dan Heng fell silent.

Himeko stopped mid-step, ready to comfort Yevenko.

But just then—

The triangular pile of ash twitched.

Out popped stick-figure arms and legs. Then Tom's eyes. Then his eyebrows.

He cradled his powdery body like it was a prized possession—

—and zipped away like a streak of light.

Stelle: "…"

Himeko: "…"

Dan Heng: "…"

March 7th: "…"
