HP: The Boy who Planted

Chapter 46: Chapter 46

In Char's vision, the world seemed to shimmer as a sea of glowing light orbs poured down from above, each one representing a reward from his now-mature glow mushroom field. The sensation was overwhelming—like standing beneath a magical waterfall, every drop a spark of new potential. As the orbs merged into his body, lines of information scrolled across his system panel, faster than he could read:

[The glow mushrooms you cultivated have reached maturity]

[You get a reward - slightly improved night vision (Black Iron level)]

[You get a reward - a very small amount of fluorescent spell enlightenment (Black Iron Level)]

[You get a reward...]

The messages flashed by in a dazzling stream, and for a moment, Char's eyes stung. He blinked, a little surprised. "With my legendary vitality, my eyes shouldn't get tired just from reading," he thought. And then it hit him—his eyes weren't tired. They were changing.

He quickly checked his system panel. Sure enough, a new ability had appeared: [Night Vision Ability]. He watched, fascinated, as the ability's luster shifted rapidly—first from black iron to bronze, then silver, and finally, with a triumphant burst, to gold. The transformation was so fast it was dizzying.

[Night Vision (Gold Level)]!

Char took a deep breath as the sensation in his eyes peaked. Tears streamed down his cheeks, blurring his vision, but he waited patiently, knowing this was just the adjustment period. When the discomfort faded, he opened his eyes to a world transformed.

The greenhouse, usually dim at night except for the faint glow of the mushrooms, now seemed as bright as midday. Every detail stood out in sharp relief—the veins on the leaves, the subtle colors of the soil, even the tiny insects flitting among the plants. Char marveled at the clarity. He could see better in the dark than he ever had in the light.

He grinned. "This is going to be useful," he thought. Emergencies, late-night work, or even just a midnight stroll—nothing would slow him down. The night was now his domain.

But Char's excitement didn't stop there. He knew the real treasure was yet to come: enlightenment in the Fluorescent Spell. Each glow mushroom contributed only a tiny bit, but with an entire field maturing at once, the cumulative effect was enormous.

As his eyes adjusted, he felt a flood of fragmented insights about the Fluorescent Spell pouring into his mind. It was like assembling a puzzle from a thousand tiny pieces—each fragment a new understanding, a subtle improvement, a deeper connection to the magic.

He watched the system panel as his Fluorescent Spell skill began to change. The silver luster crept in, slowly at first, then faster and faster, until it completely enveloped the spell's name.

[Glowing Spell (Silver Level)]!

Char's heart leapt. He'd only started learning the Fluorescent Spell a little over two months ago, much later than his other core spells, but now it had caught up and surpassed them. The planting system's rewards had given him a tremendous boost.

He could feel that the enlightenment wasn't done yet. The insights from the glow mushrooms were still being absorbed, still fueling his growth. He watched as the silver luster on the Fluorescent Spell grew brighter, more intense, until—just for a moment—a flicker of gold appeared.

Char clenched his fists, hope rising in his chest. "Come on… just a little more…"

But the golden light stalled, refusing to spread further. The spell hovered at the threshold, tantalizingly close to gold level, but not quite there.

Char's excitement faded to a gentle disappointment. "My magic perception isn't strong enough yet," he realized. "If I can get it to silver, I'll be able to push the Fluorescent Spell to gold."

But he didn't let the setback bother him for long. With the greenhouse producing mature goldfish spider plants regularly, and with his magical perception improving every time he practiced in the broom warehouse, he knew it wouldn't be long before he broke through.

For now, though, being so close to gold level meant he was almost guaranteed first place in the upcoming Fluorescent Spell final test. He smiled, thinking back to the last test. Hermione had only just reached bronze level then; even if she'd improved since, she'd still be a step behind.

Char turned his attention to the newly promoted Fluorescent Spell. He raised his wand, eager to see what had changed. "Lumos!"

A gentle, radiant light blossomed from the tip of his wand, brighter and steadier than ever before. Char felt the magic resonate through him, not just illuminating the room, but filling it with a sense of hope and courage. The light seemed to push back the darkness, not just physically, but emotionally.

He realized with a start that this level of the Fluorescent Spell could actually affect weak dark creatures, driving them back. It could calm panic, soothe fear, and bring peace to those caught in the shadows. The light was more than just illumination—it was a beacon.

Char's thoughts turned to his plants. "If this light can comfort people, what could it do for magical plants?" He imagined using the Fluorescent Spell to nurture guardian tree seeds, to help them resist dark magic and grow strong.

But he quickly reined in his imagination. The guardian tree was still a distant goal. He needed to reach silver or gold level in magic perception before he could hope to succeed. For now, his focus had to be on the upcoming Charms final.

He checked the time. The test was soon, and he wanted to be ready. With a last, satisfied look around the greenhouse—now as bright as day, thanks to his new night vision—Char gathered his things and headed for the castle.

As he walked, he felt a deep sense of contentment. Every step brought him closer to his dreams. With each spell, each harvest, and each lesson, he was growing stronger—not just as a wizard, but as a person. The future was bright, and Char was ready to meet it head-on.
