Chapter 27: 27
On Sunday morning, the sun poured in through the tall stained glass windows of the Hogwarts Great Hall, gilding the tables of the four colleges. Kevin was spreading blueberry jam on toast, his gray-blue eyes looking particularly bright due to adequate sleep.
"Let me tell you, although Quidditch is exciting, football is the best sport in the world! The scene of thousands of people cheering is still shocking no matter how many times you watch it!" Wesley waved his fork, and his reddish-brown curly hair bounced with his movements.
Fabian pushed his glasses up and showed a gentle smile on his face: "Quidditch is also very exciting, and you can fly…"
"That's totally different!" Wesley was about to continue arguing when suddenly a huge black shadow swept across the dining table.
"Watch out!" Ernesto leaned back swiftly, his gray eyes narrowed in alertness.
A majestic snowy owl landed steadily on the dining table in front of Kevin, holding a huge package and a thick letter in its claws. It raised its head proudly, and its yellow eyes stared straight at the bacon on Kevin's plate.
"Phobos!" Kevin exclaimed in surprise, reaching out to touch the owl's feathers, "You're back so soon."
Phobos placed the package and letter on the table, then pecked Kevin's fingers gently with his beak, his eyes still fixed on the bacon.
"Okay, here you go." Kevin handed the meat over with a smile. The owl took it with satisfaction, flapped its wings and flew to the candlestick beside to enjoy it.
"Wow, what is this?" Wesley leaned over curiously, his reddish-brown hair almost touching the package.
Kevin picked up the letter and found two letters inside, one signed "David and Emily" and the other "Lily."
"It's from my parents and sister," Kevin explained, carefully opening the first letter.
"Dear Kevin," he muttered, "we are not surprised to learn that you are doing well at Hogwarts…"
The handwriting in the letter was neat and warm. David and Emily asked Kevin in detail about his study and life, told him that new roses had been planted in the family garden, and that Lily had started learning to paint. They also specifically reminded him to remember to feed Phobos more meat.
The letter ended with: "In the package are some snacks and drinks that you might miss, and a new camera. Lily has been clamoring to see pictures of Hogwarts since she read your letter. Remember to share these snacks with your roommates, especially the boy named Wesley, who you always said has an appetite like a bear…"
Kevin couldn't help laughing and read this to Wesley, who puffed his cheeks in mock anger: "I don't look like a bear!"
Then he opened Lily's letter. The childish handwriting immediately reminded Kevin of his sister with pigtails:
"Kevin, I miss you so much! Mom said you are going to learn a lot of great magic. Can you turn into a dancing rabbit for me? And Hogwarts, is it really that magical? Please take some pictures of the castle for me, okay? It would be best if it could move like the Chocolate Frog!"
There was a crooked castle drawn on the corner of the letter with the word "Hogwarts" written on it.
"Your sister is so cute," Fabian said with a smile, "My brother is always pestering me to perform tricks on me."
Kevin carefully folded the letter and began to unpack the huge package. As the wrapping paper was torn off, the various colorful snack packages and drinks immediately attracted the attention of the surrounding Ravenclaw students.
"Wow! It's a chocolate bar!" Wesley spotted his favorite snack with his sharp eyes, "And potato chips! Oh my god, they are barbecue flavored!"
The package was filled with a wide variety of snacks from the Muggle world: chocolates of various flavors, colorful gummies, exquisitely packaged biscuits, and at the bottom there was a brand new Polaroid camera and several boxes of special photo paper.
Ernesto frowned and picked up a pack of popping candy: "What is this? Some kind of potion material?"
"This is popping candy," Kevin explained with a smile. "It pops when you put it in your mouth."
"Do Muggle snacks have magic?" Ernesto asked in surprise, and then continued to look through the various packages curiously.
Wesley couldn't wait to tear open a bag of potato chips and start eating. "Ernesto, you have to try this! It's really delicious!"
Fabian picked up a can of Coke: "This drink is very popular in the Muggle world. Kevin, I remember you know the Freezing Spell, right?"
Kevin nodded knowingly, pulled out his wand and tapped it lightly: "The ground is freezing and the sky is cold!"
Several cans of Coke immediately covered themselves with a layer of white frost, making a pleasant fizzing sound. Wesley could not wait to open a can, took a big gulp, and then burped with satisfaction: "Great!"
Ernesto hesitantly took the Coke from Kevin and took a sip carefully. His gray eyes widened instantly: "This…this feeling! It's like a thousand little bubbles dancing on my tongue!"
"Right?" Wesley said proudly, "Although we don't know magic and can't make those fun magic snacks, the snacks taste amazing!"
Kevin distributed some snacks to everyone, then picked up the camera and said, "Come, I'll take a picture of everyone and send it to my sister."
The three boys immediately sat up straight, and Ernesto even straightened his clothes. As the flash went on, the camera slowly spit out a photo. In the picture, Wesley was grinning, Fabian was smiling with his glasses pushed up, and Ernesto was serious, with only the corners of his mouth slightly raised.
"Great!" Kevin looked at the photos. "Lily will love it."
"Won't this photo move?" Ernesto took the photo and looked at it.
"It won't move. This is Muggle technology. The photo is frozen. But I know there is a developing potion that can make it move. I'll try to get some later," Kevin replied.
"Can we shoot outside the castle?" Wesley asked excitedly. "The Black Lake! And the Quidditch pitch!"
"There's also the astronomy tower," Ernesto, who rarely showed enthusiasm, also suggested, "It's a great day for stargazing tonight."
Fabian had already listed the filming locations on a piece of parchment: "We can make a Hogwarts album and let your sister see every corner of here."
Kevin looked at his roommates with emotion: "Thank you. Lily will be very happy."
They spent the entire morning taking photos of various parts of the castle, including the starry sky twinkling in the dome of the Great Hall, the giant squid basking in the sun by the Black Lake, and even the enthusiastic house-elves in the kitchen.
After returning to the common room, Kevin arranged the photos one by one, preparing to select some to send to Lily. Wesley collapsed on the sofa, rubbing his stomach contentedly: "Although the snacks in the wizarding world are fun, the snacks in our world are still more delicious!"
"I prefer the drink called 'Pearl Milk Tea,' Kevin, where did you buy it? I've never seen it before," Fabian pushed his glasses, "It tastes great, sweet but not greasy, and there are pearls to chew."
Ernesto rarely made any criticisms, but only studied the ingredient list on the Coke can attentively: "Carbonated water, sugar, caramel color… How did Muggles invent this drink?"
Seeing that his roommates were very interested in the snacks he shared, Kevin was very happy. He remembered the request in Lily's letter and picked up the wand and waved it gently.
A small stool was transformed into a dancing rabbit, but the movements were still a little stiff, though it still barely satisfied Lily's wishes. Kevin captured this scene with a camera and planned to send it back with the letter after getting the developing solution.
"Your sister is so lucky," Fabian said, looking at the photo, "to have a brother who cares so much about her."
Kevin smiled as he put the photos and the written reply in order. In the letter, he specifically told David that they should be careful not to let Lily show off the photos everywhere.
As for the developing potion, Kevin thought about it and decided to ask the professor tomorrow if there was any way to get some.
