HP: Vampire Professor

Chapter 76: Chapter 76: Frankly Speaking

Listening to Harry's tearful words of gratitude, Professor Dracula's lips curled into a mischievous smile. With a sudden flourish, he pulled open the white privacy curtain separating the beds in the hospital wing.

Instantly, a haggard-faced man with greasy hair was revealed, lying in the adjacent bed.

"Pro—Professor Snape?" Harry froze, his heartfelt words caught in his throat. He and Snape had spent the entire school year building a mutual antagonism, constantly devising ways to make each other's lives miserable. Harry had only found the courage to express his gratitude because he thought Snape wasn't there. Now, with the curtain ripped open, their carefully constructed façades had shattered, forcing an awkward, honest confrontation.

Harry's face flushed a deep red, and he found himself speechless.

Snape, on the other hand, had been secretly listening from his bed, his face turned away. The sudden unveiling startled him, and he swiftly buried his head in his pillow, feigning sleep. However, his actions—from straining to hear to his sudden, clumsy pretense of slumber—were perfectly observed by the other three in the room.

"Professor Snape, there's no need to be so coy; I know you're awake," Professor Dracula said with a half-smile. "Potter is about to thank you. It would be rather impolite not to respond, wouldn't it?"

Dumbledore, observing Snape's discomfort with a chuckle, chimed in. "Severus, don't be so unfeeling. This is a wonderful opportunity to mend your relationship with Harry," he said cheerfully. "I think Lily would be very pleased to see you looking after her son."

Snape remained motionless, utterly unwilling to engage in such an uncomfortable scene. Yet, his tightly pursed lips and the faint tremor in his eyelids betrayed the turmoil within him.

"Pro—Professor Snape…" Harry looked at Snape's drawn face, his own expression growing more natural and sincere. His stumbling speech found its flow. "Thank you, Professor Snape. I know it was you who saved me."

Hearing Harry's heartfelt thanks, Snape could no longer maintain his charade. "I didn't save you; it was Professor Dracula who truly saved you. If you want to thank someone, thank him," he said, his voice raspy as he finally opened his eyes. "As for me, in that room in the Forbidden Section, I even wanted to kill you at one point."

"It's simply that you were controlled by the Imperius Curse, Professor Snape," Professor Dracula interjected, enjoying the unfolding drama. "Your brave and fearless performance, standing before Lord Voldemort to save Potter, is still vivid in my mind!"

Snape's face darkened.

"Professor Snape, I understand that facing a powerful enemy like Lord Voldemort, not everyone has the courage to stand before him," Harry's expression was earnest, his words honest. "I know that only powerful wizards like Professor Dracula and Professor Dumbledore can directly confront Lord Voldemort, so it's perfectly normal that you couldn't defeat Lord Voldemort."

Harry's sincere but misguided words caused Snape's face to darken even further. He suddenly threw off the covers, ignoring his still-healing injuries, and with a grim expression, limped out of the hospital wing.

"Did Professor Snape get such serious injuries fighting Lord Voldemort?" Harry looked at Snape's retreating back, then turned to Professor Dracula. "I also want to thank you for your help, Professor Dracula. You must have helped Professor Snape and me deal with Lord Voldemort in the end!"

"A minor issue, you're welcome." Professor Dracula's expression seemed a bit unnatural. He couldn't bring himself to tell Harry the truth—that Snape's injuries were not from battling Voldemort, but from being flung against a wall by Dracula himself after Snape had been Imperiused.

Harry, oblivious, turned to Dumbledore with renewed gratitude. "Sir, I'm also truly grateful for your help," he said, genuinely moved. "Hogwarts has so many kind professors; I don't know how to express my feelings."

Now, it was Dumbledore's turn for his expression to become awkward. He couldn't bring himself to tell Harry that the person who had orchestrated his perilous adventure into the Forbidden Section, designed to test and protect the Philosopher's Stone, was none other than the old Headmaster he so deeply trusted. Dumbledore secretly decided he would wait until Harry had mostly forgotten the incident before revealing who had sent him the Invisibility Cloak.

After answering a few more of Harry's questions, Dumbledore and Professor Dracula bid farewell to the boy, who needed to rest, and left the hospital wing.

Madam Pomfrey, the head nurse, was carrying a bowl of potion, preparing to take it to Harry, when she encountered Dumbledore and Professor Dracula emerging from beside the bed. She nodded gently to them. However, as they passed, she suddenly felt that something was amiss.

"Professor Dracula, when did you arrive?" Madam Pomfrey asked suspiciously. "Did you sneak in without reporting to me? Don't you know that you must report in advance to visit patients in the hospital wing!"

Professor Dracula's steps paused. He smiled and turned to look at her. "Don't mind those details, Madam," he said in a rich voice. "Shouldn't you be taking the medicine to Mr. Potter now? Don't let the potion get cold."

Madam Pomfrey's gaze became vacant, and she nodded in agreement. Professor Dracula smiled at her again, then, before she could react, he sped up and left the hospital wing.

Dumbledore watched this scene from the side, shaking his head helplessly.

Madam Pomfrey stood in place for a moment before snapping back to reality. She stamped her foot angrily, then brought the now somewhat cool potion to Harry.

"You're awake, right? Come, sit up and drink your medicine," she said to Harry. Then, she pulled a diary from her pocket. "By the way, is this diary yours?"

Harry drank the medicine, looked at the diary in Madam Pomfrey's hand, and honestly shook his head. "It's not mine," he said.

"But your name is in the diary." Madam Pomfrey surprisingly turned to the flyleaf of the diary and showed it to Harry.

Harry's eyes widened as he saw a name written in delicate handwriting—

"Harry James Potter"
