Hp/Marvel: John Wick The Witch King

Chapter 147: Chapter 147: A Brother's Trust

The man who arrived was a businessman, but that was far from his only identity.

The man's tone made Fisk, the former overlord of Hell's Kitchen, feel like a subordinate who could be arranged at will.

A cold glint flashed in Fisk's eyes. How could someone with his ambition be content to remain beneath others?

This was just a temporary concession.

He had never expected that Killian, the man he was supposed to continue cooperating with, would die overnight.

Fortunately, Fisk had successfully laid out his own plans during the chaos caused by the Mandarin. On the surface, Hell's Kitchen didn't seem to have changed much, but in reality, the gangs had been re-subdued by him. Through the legitimate force of the FBI, he had eliminated everyone who defied or opposed him.

The FBI team responsible for monitoring him had already been bribed.

Except for Ray and Dax, he had leverage over everyone else. Though the FBI benefits were good, the agents' loans and families were their weaknesses. Fisk had long since used his former bank to gain control. For those unwilling to accept bribes, he used their most cherished family members as threats, forcing them to go along with the corruption.

As for the remaining two, Ray wasn't a major problem. He valued his family, and Fisk could use them as a weakness.

But Dax was tricky. The guy had no family, not even a girlfriend.

However, Fisk had discovered other things about him, and he was confident he could turn Dax into the sharpest weapon in his arsenal. While in prison, Fisk had planned an attack on himself to have the FBI transfer him out of his cell. It was during that time that he witnessed Dax's powerful combat ability firsthand. With just one man, he had defeated all the attackers and dragged Fisk out of the prison. Having seen such power, Fisk also recalled the mysterious man who was always by John Wick's side.

Dax could be used to deal with that man.

He calculated everything perfectly.

Even Fisk couldn't have imagined that the promising FBI agent he was observing was the very same man who had attacked him that day. The combat suit Dax wore had a voice-changing function, which was why Fisk couldn't recognize the voice of his assailant.

The businessman's name was Kaito Desmond.

It was through Desmond that Fisk had established his cooperation with Killian. Desmond was also the one who had provided the evolution serum. Fisk already had objections to Desmond secretly planting his own gangs within his sphere of influence.

"Killian had a secret warehouse storing the remaining Extremis Virus. I can help you with that, but you also need to give me something in return." Desmond swirled the wine in his glass, his lips looking as if they were stained with blood.

"As long as you clear your name in public, our people will help you win that position," Desmond said meaningfully. "But our trust in you is not high right now. You need to show that you have sufficient value, Wilson."

"You know who our eyesore is."

Hearing this, Fisk gave his assurance. "I have found that person's weakness."

"We know more," Desmond's gaunt cheeks squeezed out a smile that looked more like a skull's grin. "You can't kill him."

His words implied he was not unfamiliar with John. He even seemed to know more.

Fisk sneered. "John Wick is very powerful, but the people around him don't have his ability."

"Yuri Orlov always has a security team with him," Desmond said, thinking they were going to target Olov. "Killing him is not simple."

"No, not him," Fisk said confidently. "He's hiding a woman in Queens. There's a child there."

At this, Desmond's smile grew wider, looking even more terrifying.

"Then we should celebrate."

That guy named John Wick, after bouncing around for so long, had finally shown a flaw.

They all knew how formidable John was.

But they also didn't expect that John could hear their entire conversation from the coast.

Standing by a passing food truck, John bought something and stood by the water with the two kids, enjoying the breeze.

"Mr. Wick, why are you suddenly being so good to us?" Peter asked, eating a hot dog as long as his forearm, loaded with yellow mustard, ketchup, pickles, and vegetables.

The two children ate with happy faces; Ned's mouth was already so full he couldn't speak.

Peter, wearing an army green jacket, opened his mouth and stuffed the bun in.

Hearing the question, John first looked at the ship that had already sailed away, then turned to Peter.

He patted the little fool on the shoulder, his expression unchanged. "Silly child, just tell me what you want to eat during this time."

This silly kid still didn't know that his bean-sprout-like body had been targeted. As for Ned... that body of his probably wasn't attractive enough to draw any attention.

The little guys didn't know they had been targeted by bad guys. Peter, hearing John's words, just felt that the other party might have truly changed for the better.

Happily eating the hot dog and spending the whole day by the sea, Peter felt his face was salty when he got home. He sat in his seat, lowering his head timidly.

May looked at the more than half-eaten food and asked worriedly, "Peter, are you okay?"

"I..." Peter burped, the taste of hot dogs filling his mouth. He covered his mouth and nodded hard, mustering his courage to take a fork and stuff the remaining food into his mouth.

By night, Peter had never felt his stomach so full.

Someone was going to target the "weaknesses" around him. John felt it was better not to bother with a complicated plan.

Might as well create a target.

These days, John picked Peter up from school every day. He also took him to the busiest places and put on a show of "My Godfather" and "Family Bliss." Every scene was seen by Fisk's people.

An FBI agent would report to Fisk during meals. Fisk became more certain that he had grasped John's weakness.

Dax pretended not to see his colleague place a note under his food tray. He ate the nutritious meal made by Ray's wife, listening to the unsuspecting Ray talk about his family matters.

"My family all depends on my salary," Ray sighed. "My father is also hospitalized and needs a lot of money."

He wasn't asking for money, just simply complaining. His current salary could still handle it, but if the child in his wife's belly was born, he would have to consider taking out a loan.

Dax listened and asked, "Isn't the supervisor promoting you?"

Ray, who treated Dax as a good brother, didn't doubt him and said frankly, "I was carrying some debt for a while. Because of this, I might not pass the internal affairs review."

Ray himself was an immigrant. He had applied for student loans to study here. After graduation, he hadn't immediately become an FBI agent and had needed to borrow money from the bank to get by. The FBI's promotions prioritized an agent's debt situation, as personnel with debt were more likely to be bribed.

Ray was stuck. With his resume, it was reasonable for him to move up to department supervisor and, after some time, become a branch chief. If it weren't for his father's hospitalization and his wife's pregnancy, he would just need to wait for this year to pass to have a chance.

Looking left and right to see that the other FBI agents had left, Ray moved a little closer to Dax and said in a low voice, "The internal investigation into the Night Ghost within the bureau is nearing its end. In the last dock explosion case, a total of five agents were hospitalized during that time, but none of them had such severe injuries."

"I investigated the police department and found that only three police officers were injured during that time. They were either female, or their build didn't match."

Ray had no doubts about Dax at all and said with a headache, "Now the only people left to investigate are those in our team. I think we need to change direction."

He said in a deep voice, "Perhaps the Night Ghost isn't someone from within the bureau, but rather someone who bribed people inside to provide him with information."

He took out a USB drive and said in a low voice, "These are the people I've investigated. They are all people who urgently need money but suddenly have a spending level inconsistent with their salary."

"We'll investigate in two directions," Ray said sincerely. "I can only trust you, Dax."

He slipped the USB drive into Dax's hand and said seriously, "Given the Night Ghost's hatred for evil, he might attempt to assassinate Fisk. While you're monitoring, you can keep an eye out for suspicious people appearing around him."

Looking at Ray, who trusted him so much, Dax felt a stir inside and asked with slight hesitation, "You trust me that much?"

Ray seemed to have heard a joke, and a smile appeared on his serious face. "Of course, I trust you, Dax."

He and Dax had joined the FBI around the same time, so there was a natural closeness. Coupled with Dax's lack of family, Ray, who had been the eldest brother at home since childhood, couldn't help but care for him more. He had checked Dax's bank account and debt situation; he was clean and had passed the review. All these things told Ray that this was a trustworthy person. For Ray, Dax was his younger brother.

Looking at those sincere eyes, Dax was silent for a moment.

"I know what to do." He took the USB drive and solemnly put it in his pocket.

The list of agents bribed by Fisk was in his hand.
