Chapter 2: Familiar Name
Lena's stomach twisted into knots. The article was filled with pictures of a man with an unsettlingly powerful presence.
Tall. Impossibly broad-shouldered. Dressed in a black suit that was tailored to perfection. His face was all sharp lines and unreadable expressions, his silver-gray eyes so piercing that they seemed to cut through the very screen.
Her breath hitched.
This was the man the bank manager claimed was her husband?
A chill settled in her bones.
Her gaze darted across the article, scanning the text.
"Alexander Cain is a self-made billionaire, feared across industries. A man with unmatched power, capable of destroying businesses with a single word. His competitors call him ruthless, his employees call him a tyrant, and those who have ever crossed him—"
Lena's hands trembled as she read Mia's message. Her vision blurred for a moment, her heart pounding against her ribs.
"Lena, you need to be careful."
She swallowed hard, quickly typing back.
"What I'm doing now, Mia"
A moment later, another message popped up.
"Are you Okay Lena"?
Lena felt her breath catch in her throat. Her fingers went numb as she scrolled through the article, scanning the words. A powerful and dangerous tycoon. A man feared by the elite. A businessman with no mercy.
And somehow, the world thought she was married to him.
Her phone nearly slipped from her hands as she pressed Mia's contact and called her.
"Mia, what the hell is going on?" she demanded the moment her friend picked up.
"Lena, I—I don't know. But it's all over the official records. Your name is legally registered as Alexander Cain's wife."
Lena staggered back, gripping the edge of her desk for support.
"This is impossible. I've never even met him! How can I be married to a man I don't even know?"
Mia hesitated before whispering, "Lena… if his name is on that document, this isn't just some mistake. Men like him… they don't make mistakes."
A cold shiver ran down Lena's spine. Her world, which was already falling apart, now seemed like a twisted nightmare.
Lena pressed her fingers against her temple, trying to process what Mia had just said. Her heart pounded so violently that she could feel it in her throat.
"Mia… this can't be happening," she whispered, her voice barely steady.
"I know," Mia muttered, equally shaken. "But Lena, this isn't just some clerical error. If Alexander Cain's name is on that document, then someone—or he himself—did this on purpose."
Lena's stomach twisted into knots. "But why? Why me? I don't even know him!"
Mia let out a sharp breath. "That's exactly what scares me. A man like him doesn't just randomly pick someone and register them as his wife."
A thick silence stretched between them, both overwhelmed by the sheer absurdity of the situation.
Lena bit her lip, trying to keep herself from spiraling into panic. "I can't just sit here and wait for answers. I need to do something."
Mia hesitated. "You're right. We need to meet in person. We can't talk about this over the phone."
Lena nodded, even though Mia couldn't see her. "Where should we meet?"
"The café near my apartment. It's quiet, and no one will overhear us."
Lena glanced at the clock. It was already evening, but there was no way she could wait until tomorrow. "I'll be there in twenty minutes."
"Okay. Be careful, Lena."
As soon as the call ended, Lena grabbed her bag with trembling hands. A part of her still hoped this was some horrible misunderstanding.
But deep down, she knew—her life had just been thrown into chaos.
Lena took a deep breath, forcing herself to stay calm. There was no time to panic—not when everything in her life was already spiraling out of control.
She hurried to her closet, pulling on a simple black coat over her dress. Her hands still trembled as she grabbed her phone and bag, double-checking to make sure she had everything.
Before leaving, she made her way to her mother's room, quietly pushing the door open. The dim glow of the bedside lamp cast soft shadows across the room. Her mother lay on the bed, her breathing slow and steady.
Lena stepped closer, watching her for a moment. A pang of guilt tightened in her chest. If her mother were awake, she'd immediately notice that something was wrong. But Lena couldn't let her worry—not until she figured out what was happening.
She carefully pulled the blanket over her mother's shoulders and stepped back, making sure not to make any noise.
With one last glance, she whispered, "I'll fix this, Mom. I promise."
Then, without another second to waste, Lena turned and left the room.
She grabbed her keys from the table, slipped into her shoes, and hurried out of the apartment.
As she stepped into the cold night air, a strange feeling settled in her chest—as if she were walking straight into a storm she couldn't escape.

Lena pushed open the café door, and the warm scent of freshly brewed coffee mixed with the soft hum of conversation. The place was dimly lit, casting a cozy yet secretive atmosphere.
Her eyes scanned the room quickly, and then she spotted Mia.
She was sitting at a corner table, her fingers anxiously tapping against her coffee cup. Her expression was tense, her brows furrowed in deep thought.
Lena wasted no time and walked straight toward her. As she approached, Mia looked up, her eyes filled with concern.
"You're here," Mia breathed out, relief washing over her face.
Lena slid into the seat across from her, her fingers gripping the edge of the table. "Tell me everything you found out."
Mia took a deep breath and pushed her phone across the table.
"Lena, this isn't just bad. It's terrifying."
Lena stiffened the moment she heard the familiar voice with familiar name.
