Chapter 177 Music class (3)
"Alright, everyone sit down," Alina said, her tone sharper than before as she clapped her hands once. Her expression was serious, lips pressed together.
The babies blinked in confusion but shuffled to the floor in a cluster, so close to each other that they looked like one big fluffy ball of supernatural children. Luna immediately scowled, pushing at Drake with her elbow when his chubby cheek smooshed against her shoulder.
"Stop sticking to me!" she growled, her golden eyes glaring.
Drake only grinned innocently. "I'm not sticking, I'm just… leaning!"
Kelpie, sitting on her other side, was even worse. His damp little fingers kept flicking droplets of water onto her arm every time he moved. "Oops… sorry… oop—sorry again."
"Kelpie!!!" Luna snapped, ready to pounce, but Alina's eyes narrowed and that was enough to make them both freeze.
"Good. Now, listen carefully." Alina folded her arms. "I know everyone was surprised by the sudden addition of music class. But it wasn't added to make you suffer—it's for you. Music helps develop your creativity, your memory, and your focus. Do you know it can even make you better at math?"
The babies' eyes widened as though she had told them music could summon candy from thin air.
"Music also helps you share your feelings," Alina continued. "It can make your parents proud when they see you play an instrument or sing. Imagine their faces when they see their little ones performing beautifully in front of everyone."
Drake puffed out his chest at that, already imagining himself on a stage. Boo raised his tiny ghostly hand. "Teacher, can Boo sing spooky songs at night and make elders clap for Boo?"
Alina tried not to laugh. "Yes, Boo. Even spooky songs count."
Boo twirled happily, nearly crashing into the harp Felix was still guarding like treasure.
"And," Alina said, tapping the board, "there is another new subject as well—moral education."
"Moral what??" Drake tilted his head, looking utterly lost.
"It means learning how to be good, kind, and respectful," Alina explained patiently. "It's about doing the right thing, helping others, and making choices that make you proud when you grow up."
"Teacher!!" Boo gasped dramatically. "Is moral education… when you don't steal snacks??"
The whole class burst into laughter, and even Alina couldn't stop her chuckle as she nodded. "Yes, Boo. Exactly. Moral education means not stealing snacks."
Boo sank to the floor, covering his face. "Oh no… Boo has failed already…"
Vlad Jr. raised his hand, his crimson eyes serious. "But teacher, how can music make you good at math?" He looked so confused.
Alina crouched down a little, smiling softly at him. "That's a good question, sweetheart. You see, music has numbers inside it. When you count beats—one, two, three, four—you are already practicing math. When you clap in rhythm, or when you divide sounds into fast and slow, that's math too. Music helps your brain practice counting without you even noticing."
Drake gasped loudly, pointing at himself with chubby fingers. "Teacher!! When I drum on table—bam bam bam—is that math??" He said, slapping his desk in uneven rhythm.
Alina chuckled. "Yes, Drake. That's rhythm. It's like math hiding inside music."
Boo spun upside down, his sheet-like body swaying. "Ohhh so if Boo goes boom-boom-BOOM… is Boo a genius now??"
"Not yet, Boo," Alina said, her lips twitching. "But if you keep practicing, maybe you'll be a genius drummer."
Kelpie blinked, looking completely lost. "Teacher… so if water goes drip drip drip… is that music too?" He tilted his head, water droplets falling from his fingers.
"Yes, Kelpie, even water sounds can become music if you listen carefully," Alina said gently.
Rocky raised his little hand shyly. "Then… if I drop pebbles on ground… clink clink… is that math?"
Alina laughed softly. "Yes, Rocky. That's counting sounds. See? You're all smarter than you think."
The whole class gasped in awe, looking at each other as if they had just unlocked a secret superpower.
"Teacher!!!" Luna suddenly shouted, standing up proudly. "Then Luna will howl tonight—awoooo—and tell daddy it's math!!"
Everyone burst into laughter, and Alina facepalmed, shaking her head. "Yes, Luna, you can tell your daddy your howl is… advanced math."
Alina clapped her hands gently to gather their attention again. "Alright, everyone. Let's Start our very first music class!" she said with a bright smile. She waited until all the giggles and whispers faded, though Boo was still dangling upside down in the air like a ghostly ornament.
"Now," she began, pacing slowly in front of them, "music is not only singing or instruments. It starts with something very small—sound. Do you know what sound is?"
The babies blinked at her with wide, curious eyes. Luna tilted her head, ears twitching as if she could hear something hidden.
"Sound is what we hear with our ears. When I clap like this—" she clapped once, a sharp echo bouncing around the room, "—that's sound. When Boo sneezes like this—" she pretended to sneeze dramatically and Boo immediately copied with a silly "AchoooOoo~~," making everyone laugh—"that's also sound."
She turned serious again, though her lips twitched at Boo's theatrics. "But music… music is when we put sounds in order. When they follow a rhythm, when they make us feel something. Like this." She clapped slowly: one, two, three, four. "This is a beat. Everyone, try with me!"
The babies hesitated, then started clapping. Drake's claps were way too fast, Sable's tiny hands were so soft they barely made noise, and Kelpie's hands dripped little droplets each time he smacked his palms together. Boo didn't bother with hands at all—he used his head to bonk bonk the drum in rhythm.
Alina laughed softly. "Good, good! It doesn't have to be perfect yet. We're just learning. Now, music is also about high and low sounds. When I sing high—" she lifted her voice in a gentle, silly "laaaa"—"and when I sing low—" she dropped into a deep "laaaa"—"that's pitch. Everyone try!"
The classroom filled with chaos. Luna howled like a wolf pup, Boo made ghostly wails that rose and fell, Drake roared like a baby dragon, and Vlad Jr. recited his "la la la" with too much elegance, as though he were an opera singer. Felix squeaked nervously, his fox tail flicking, while Rocky muttered "la" in such a deep, stone-like tone it made everyone giggle.
