Chapter 78: Why Don’t I Remember?
Chapter 78: Why Don’t I Remember?
“Eh? Aier! What are you doing here? Where’s Weirafiya? Where did she go?”
Yake was still showing Yaser around the Royal Palace when he unexpectedly ran into Aierjisi at the laboratory. Wasn’t she supposed to be resting with Weirafiya? How did she end up here?
“Ah, Yake. This is a bit of a long story.”
Aierjisi hadn’t anticipated running into Yake and Yaser here. To be precise, she hadn’t expected to spend this long just dawdling around.
She initially thought she would just let Weirafiya and Ouxs chat about the Teleportation Gate and then head back. Little did she know that the situation had spiraled beyond her imagination. Weirafiya was still locked inside with Ouxs. Twenty minutes had already passed—how long would it take for them to finish?
“What about the young lady? Isn’t she with you? Surely she’s not still sleeping in the room, right?”
Yaser also noticed that his family’s little princess and the young lady were not together.
“N-no… it’s my fault. Weirafiya is still in this room. I don’t know what Ouxs is doing with her.”
Aierjisi pointed to the laboratory beside her.
“This is… a laboratory? Could it be that the young lady is being subjected to experiments? I’ve got to rescue her!”
Upon seeing the door marked ‘Laboratory,’ Yaser felt uneasy. Was the young lady really being sliced up for experiments? That cannot be allowed!
In a flash, Yaser pulled out a sword radiating golden light from his dimensional pocket, ready to break through the door.
“Wait a moment. Mr. Ouxs is not that kind of person; Yaser, calm down!”
Seeing that Yaser was about to barge in, Yake quickly stopped him. If he let him act recklessly in the Royal Palace, things would definitely spiral out of control!
“But the young lady is inside! I have to save her!”
“I told you to calm down! Mr. Ouxs is not like that. Step aside, and let me ask.”
Yake pushed Yaser aside and walked to the door, knocking three gentle times.
“Mr. Ouxs! This is Yake. Um… how’s Miss Weirafiya doing? Can you let her out for a bit?”
Creeeak… The moment Yake called out, the laboratory door swung open, and Weirafiya stood behind it, looking at them.
“Young lady, you… didn’t run into any trouble, did you?”
Seeing that Weirafiya appeared fine, Yaser felt relieved. However, she looked a bit worn out, even though she seemed fine at first glance.
“No, he just asked me some questions about those Ultimate Life Forms. I tried my best to answer him. I should be able to leave soon. You all wait a moment. Once I finish answering his questions, you can come in too. Hey, Ouxs, I’m letting them in now, okay?”
“That’s fine; let them in.”
“Then come on in.”
With Ouxs’s permission, Weirafiya opened the door wide, allowing them to enter.
Ouxs was sitting in a chair nearby, jotting down what appeared to be a lot of notes in a notebook, which was completely incomprehensible to the outsiders. They decided not to inquire further.
“Is it really okay for us to just stand here? This feels super awkward.”
Now, the three of them felt completely ignored by Ouxs and Weirafiya, like their presence didn’t even matter.
“It’s fine! There’s a saying: as long as we’re not awkward, the awkwardness is on others. Sometimes you just have to thicken your skin. Besides, waiting outside is the same as waiting inside.”
“True that.”
The three fell into silence, watching as Weirafiya and Ouxs engaged in a question-and-answer session. Ouxs would ask, and Weirafiya would respond, while he diligently noted down her answers.
An hour passed just like that.
“Alright, thank you very much for your cooperation. You can leave now.”
Ouxs finally wrapped up all the questions, feeling absolutely ecstatic. With all this newfound knowledge, his research progress would surely get a significant boost.
“Ah… Finally! My mouth feels so dry. Yaser, let’s head back.”
Weirafiya felt like she had just escaped a purgatory. She felt so drained that it wouldn’t be surprising if she dropped dead at any moment!
No, more accurately, she needed to lie down on a soft bed and sleep within a minute; otherwise, she was surely going to die!
“Young lady, are you alright? Should I carry you?”
“No need! I can still walk…”
Seeing Weirafiya’s legs trembling, Yaser stepped forward, wanting to carry her back. But she firmly rejected him, elegantly collapsing to the ground.
“Young lady?!”
Seeing Weirafiya lying on the floor, Yaser rushed to pick her up, quickly assessing her condition. Thankfully, nothing was wrong—she was just plain worn out.
“Hang in there, young lady! I’ll get you back to your room for some rest. Aierjisi, do you know the way?”
“Don’t worry! I know. Just follow me; I’ll take you there.”
Aierjisi confidently led Yaser and Weirafiya to her room. They hadn’t figured out whose room they would stay in yet, so they would rest in her room for now.
“Young lady, you can sleep here comfortably. You really deserve it after that ordeal.”
Yaser gently laid her on the bed and tucked her in.
“Mm… When will my Yake be as caring towards me as that?”
Watching Yaser’s tender actions towards Weirafiya, Aierjisi found it hard not to feel a twinge of envy. Why could they be like that while Yake was so reluctant to show her the same care?
“When have I not treated you like this? I’ve always been here serving you!”
Yake felt exasperated. Did he not notice the various acts of care he had shown the little princess? He personally handled her face-washing, teeth-brushing, and hair-combing—he even learned things he never intended to just to take care of her!
“Is that so? Have you really tucked me in like that? I don’t remember!”
“That’s because you were sleeping like a log. When you sleep, there’s an 80% chance you kick the blanket off, and I have to get up to cover you again!”
Looking back on the times they had lived together, Yake often had to wake up around 1 AM to check if she had kicked her blanket off. If she did, he would have to pick it up again and cover her with it before he could sleep peacefully again.
