I Became the Main Character’s Favorite

Chapter 1 - Where am I?

Where am I?

… When I came to my senses, the first thing I saw was a prison bar covered with mold and blood.

When I first saw this, it was such an unrealistic sight that I thought my friends might be pulling a hidden camera prank or something.
But since I didn’t even have anyone I could call a friend, this turned out to be a meaningless guess.
‘… Then what is this?’

Kidnapping? Or a dream?
It couldn’t be kidnapping because I had no memory of being kidnapped at all.
It’s too vivid to be a dream.
As I was realizing this was reality, feeling the chill running through my body,

“Didn’t I tell you to move quickly?”
From an ambiguous distance that’s too close to be far and too far to be close.
I can feel the mix of a man’s voice, sharp with anger, and someone’s groaning.
The moment I heard those sounds, goosebumps rose all over my body, but I tried to hold back and looked to the side, only to see a shocking sight.
‘… A slap?’

It was the sight of a large man slapping the cheek of a girl who looked to be in middle or high school.
Momentarily flustered by the situation, I tried to stop this by reaching out my hand to intervene.
But the short hands, cute little fingers… and a voice that was not just youthful but baby-like made me pause.
Of course, all these descriptions were not about someone else, but sentences describing me.
‘What?’

So surprised that I couldn’t hide my bewilderment, I looked around.
Through nearby scattered metal, I could see my current appearance.
Snow-white hair with a faint blue tint and blue eyes.
Even being generous, the image reflected in the metal was of a child no older than 3 or 4 years old.
“…?”

Cognitive dissonance kicks in, making me keep waving my hands in the air.
What on earth is this now? A vivid nightmare? Or… really, what is it?
Just as I was about to go blank from the current situation that defied common sense, I heard another unpleasant impact sound nearby.
Seeing the large man now trying to kick the girl’s body, I thought she might really die like this, so I shouted loudly in an urgent voice.
“Stop it!”

Perhaps because I shouted so urgently, not only did my pronunciation get slurred, but I even squeaked at the end.
Having drawn everyone’s attention and done something so foolish, my face heated up with embarrassment.
But I tried to endure it and quickly ran to the girl, when the large man spoke as if dumbfounded.
“Have these all gone mad together.”

A voice that doesn’t see humans as humans.
At that tone that seemed devoid of even a shred of sympathy, goosebumps rose all over my body.
But if I backed down now, it seemed the girl behind me would really die, so I tried hard to stand my ground.
“…”

My feet are trembling so much that it’s hard to even stand properly.
Feeling like I might fall if someone nudges me from the side, I’m trying my best to spread my legs wide apart, when
the man looks at me and snickers, then knocks me over without hesitation.
As I fall, fear and helplessness mix, making me unable to do anything.

Having never experienced anything like this before, I couldn’t say a word and just trembled all over my body.
The girl I had tried to save hugs me and starts trembling violently.
The trembling was so intense that it made my body shake along with it.
If possible, I wanted to stand up to the man, but this child’s body I’m in seems to have no intention of listening to me, only intensifying its trembling.
“Hic. Sniff… Pl-please stop… please stop.”

The louder the crying becomes, the more uncomfortable he seems to get.
He was about to resort to violence again, showing no emotion that a human should have, but
[Warning! All personnel are requested to assemble in the first floor lobby immediately!]

He stopped the violence at the sound of a siren coming from somewhere.
“I’ll deal with you lot later.”
Unable to ignore the warning sound, he spat and left for somewhere.
Watching this, I was feeling a sloppy sense of relief, thinking it’s fortunate we didn’t die, when
the girl holding me apologizes to me, shedding tears drop by drop.
“Sorry… I’m sorry.”

As I hear those words and try to turn my body slightly to tell her it’s okay, what I see is.
‘… The main character?’
It was the appearance of Lee Seo-rin, the protagonist I had seen in the illustration just before falling asleep.
And the protagonist of the novel.
Of course, it might be a simple misunderstanding, but the resemblance was too striking to dismiss as a mistake, even down to the mole next to her eye.
Surprised by this thought, I blinked my eyes, when
she hugged me again with trembling hands and said.
“Sniff… Does it hurt a lot? Are you okay?”

To be honest, I’m not okay at all. No, it’s worse than that, it’s the worst, but
There seemed to be no way to resolve it even if I said I wasn’t okay, so I tried to say I was fine.
“I’m otay.”

Once again, a lisping sound pops out unintentionally.
It’s just embarrassing when these sounds pop out without meaning to.
Pain from my body and a burning sensation from shame on my face rush in, making me feel like I’m going to throw up, so I squeeze my eyes shut.
The girl, seeming to realize I was lying, hugged me tightly again, not knowing what to do.

After Seo-rin (presumed) fell asleep, I was standing in front of the metal I had seen earlier, tilting my head.
It wasn’t anything special, I just wanted to properly check my condition, which I couldn’t see clearly earlier.
‘What is this.’

I stretched one side of my cheek, which looked soft and squishy, narrowing my eyes, then sighed and let it go.
If I had at least become a male body… or even a body of a similar age, late teens to early twenties, the sense of disconnect would have been less.
It was somewhat difficult to adapt to becoming not just a child, but a completely baby-like child’s body.
So after grumbling for a while looking at this, I slightly lowered my gaze to look at the side where the man had hit me.
‘By the way, the wound is healing incredibly fast.’

There’s still a bit of pain left, but
seeing that the purple bruises have all disappeared and returned to their original color, at least the outside seems to have healed completely, if not the inside.
As I was wondering about this recovery ability far exceeding what a normal person could have, I notice something strange on my head.
‘Horns?’

Snow-white and cute little horns.
The size and shape were so cute that they felt more like big white candies than horns, but
in any case, they were definitely real horns, firmly attached and with a tangible sensation.
‘Hmm.’

Is the body I entered not human?
As I was pondering, unsure about this child’s identity,
Seo-rin (presumed), who had woken up, came over to me rubbing her eyes.
“What are you doing?”

I wanted to say I was checking my body, but
fearing she might misunderstand that I was trying to check because my body hurt, I squeezed out a different excuse.
“Walk…?”
“A walk here? You’re still hurting, aren’t you?”

She’s too quick-witted.
Seeing her hand reaching out to check my wounds, I felt an inexplicable aversion and stepped back, quickly thinking of something to change the subject.
“Name…! What’s your name?”

Judging by outward appearance alone, it would be right for me to use formal speech, but
‘The one inside here is a 20-year-old adult, so.’
Since using formal speech felt awkward, I asked using casual speech.
She didn’t seem to mind and told me her name.
“Ah… I didn’t introduce myself. I’m Lee Seo-rin.”

The name Lee Seo-rin confirmed that my guess was correct.
With that, I decided to continue thinking about the thoughts I had put aside, such as whether this is the world inside the novel? Who am I? when.
“……”

I can feel Seo-rin quietly looking at me without saying anything.
Apparently, she wanted to hear my name, so I recited my somewhat gender-neutral name.
“Yoo Ha-eun.”

Sometimes it’s mistaken for a girl’s name, but it’s clearly a boy’s name. Of course, I hardly ever saw other boys with a name similar to mine.
Anyway, after I told her my name, Seo-rin ruffled my hair randomly while saying,
“Ha-eun, what a really cute name. How old are you, Ha-eun?”

My hair gets messed up and my vision gradually disappears.
I tried to reach out my hand to calm this down, meaning to stop it, but
due to my short arms, I couldn’t even reach Seo-rin’s hand, let alone stop it, and just kept waving in the air.
“Sorry, sorry. You’re so cute, Ha-eun, I unconsciously started petting you. Did you dislike it a lot?”

It’s not that I disliked it, but still, being patted on the head by a girl younger than me feels a bit off.
So I thought about expressing that I disliked it, but
seeing that Seo-rin’s expression was smiling for the first time after patting my head, I couldn’t bring myself to say I disliked it.
“…I didn’t dislike it.”
“Really?”

It was an ambiguous expression meaning I didn’t like it either, but
Seo-rin seemed to take it as if I liked it, reaching out to me with an even brighter expression than before.
At this rate, it seemed she would pet my head all day, so I tried to swat her hand away, but
Flail, flail.
Due to my short hands, I couldn’t swat it away.
“……”

My lips unconsciously pout forward, so I quickly cover my mouth to pull them back in.
I don’t think I ever made such expression mistakes before entering this body.
Now, perhaps because I have the body of a young child, expressions keep showing on my face.
‘Even so, making mistakes like this is not okay.’

I was thinking about doing some intense expression practice for a while, closing my eyes tightly, when
Seo-rin picked me up and hugged me, then headed towards where we were originally, telling me,
“Um… thank you for saving me earlier. If it weren’t for you, Ha-eun, I would have surely died.”

No.
You wouldn’t have died.
Even in the original novel, due to the siren, you only got severely injured but didn’t die.
‘Moreover, since this novel is Seo-rin’s overpowered, power-abusing hunter story,’

Although dangerous situations often occur, death never happens. To begin with, this novel ends with a happy ending.
So “if it weren’t for you” was incorrect.
In that flow of thoughts, I couldn’t help but revisit the question I had pondered earlier.
‘So who am I?’

It’s strange to be a normal extra with these unusual things (white horns, healing power).
But I don’t remember seeing this character in the novel, so it’s hard to say it’s a major character.
‘Besides… although it’s a bit odd for me to say this,’

It’s not just incredibly cute, but to the extent that the whole world would be shocked, Seo-rin would tremble, and Ha-eun would be astonished by how incredibly cute this appearance is.
Looking at this, there were too many unclear aspects to dismiss the owner of this body as a normal extra.
‘… I don’t know.’

I calmed down Seo-rin, who was rubbing her cheek against my face, and hopped down to the floor.
‘Anyway, the important thing is that this world is a world view of Seo-rin’s happy life, solely for Seo-rin.’

For now, it would be good to get along well with Seo-rin.
Of course, it doesn’t suit my personality to receive help one-sidedly, so
I decided to aim for a mutually complementary relationship that would be helpful to Seo-rin in some way, and as I was strengthening my resolve,
“Ah! Where are you going!”

Seo-rin picked me up again and started petting me randomly.
I felt my body swaying back and forth, thinking I might have become something like Seo-rin’s attachment doll.
