Chapter 402 Tang Zhi
"What do you mean by 'in some time'?"
Elder Mei said, "Besides, Old Tang isn't the type to bully the young. Does that mean I'm the one who bullies the young?"
Elder Xue frowned and asked, "If punishing Elder Wu doesn't satisfy you, then what does Elder Mei intend?"
Elder Mei stroked his beard and said, "I heard that my granddaughter was injured due to Little Elder Tang using a Dao Artifact. In that case, just give the Dao Artifact to my granddaughter as compensation."
As soon as he said this, Elder Xue abruptly stood up and firmly refused, "That is absolutely impossible!"
Although Elder Xue wasn't envious of Dao Artifacts, it didn't mean they weren't valuable.
Even in Wenda Sect, there are not many Dao Artifacts, as those who can refine them are extremely rare.
"Not to mention the Sect Master won't agree to this, no one else in the sect would either."
"So there's no room for discussion?"
Elder Mei said,
"I heard that my granddaughter defeated that little beast Tang on the Life and Death Platform. This Dao Artifact should rightfully belong to my granddaughter as her spoils of war. How is it that my granddaughter's spoils can't belong to her? Do you think my granddaughter is easy to bully?"
Just as he finished speaking, an angry female voice echoed from outside the courtyard: "If the one named Tang is a little beast, then what does that make you named Mei?"
Elder Mei turned his head to see a woman in white entering the room with a man.
At this moment, the woman in white was filled with rage, glaring at him murderously! If not for the man next to her holding her wrist tightly, she might have dared to fight him with her Golden Core Middle Stage cultivation.
Elder Mei had seen Elder Wu before, so he recognized the woman in white.
However, the man beside her was someone Elder Mei was seeing for the first time.
"I heard long ago that the second son of the Tang Family is henpecked. It seems true at last."
Elder Mei's words carried mockery, insulting Little Elder Tang for being inept and Elder Wu for being domineering.
Elder Wu didn't mind, but Little Elder Tang pulled his wife and respectfully apologized to Elder Mei, saying, "Junior Tang Zhi, I've come specially to apologize with my wife."
When Elder Mei joined the Wenda Sect, he didn't hide his tracks, and the Tang Family is flourishing now, with many informants in Wenda Sect, not to mention Gourd Peak had people feeding them information.
Seeing Elder Xue frowning, Tang Zhi's heart skipped a beat, realizing he had been too rash in coming here.
Wasn't he blatantly revealing to Elder Xue that his family had spies in Gourd Peak and that he visited without needing to send a formal notice?
However, remembering the purpose of his trip, he decided to explain himself to Elder Xue first.
"My granddaughter was bullied, and you think a mere apology could settle it? Do you think I'm so easy to talk to?"
As Elder Mei said this, Elder Wu, who was coerced into apologizing, couldn't contain his anger and immediately asked, "Then what does Elder Mei plan to do? Beat me up to vent your anger? Fine, I'm standing here, you're free to strike, and I won't even frown."
Elder Mei saw that Elder Wu didn't seem to be pretending, which made him both angry and amused!
If things were so easily settled, why would he bother climbing to the peak?
"If I harm you, you'll retaliate twice as hard on my granddaughter once I'm gone. And when I'm in the Goddess Sect, how would I manage that?"
Elder Mei said, "Besides, I'm not the type to bully the weaker. If I hurt you, others would say I'm bullying the weak and fearing the strong, tarnishing my reputation."
Tang Zhi immediately responded, "I know a mere apology cannot make up for the wrongs, so please, Elder Mei, name your condition. As long as the junior can accomplish it, I won't refuse."
Elder Mei nodded with satisfaction and reiterated his demand for the Dao Artifact.
Elder Wu decisively refused, "The Dao Artifact is meant for my Guo'er, how could it be given to outsiders?"
Tang Zhi, however, said, "The Dao Artifact is no longer with me, and I am unable to give it to you, Elder."
Elder Mei said, "That's why I came to Wenda Sect instead of looking for you. I planned to see your family head."
Tang Zhi responded, "If I have erred, I shall take responsibility accordingly. But since the Dao Artifact belongs to Wenda Sect, even if you see the Sect Master, the other elders would not condone giving it to anyone outside the sect."
Elder Mei had a plan ready before coming and confidently proposed, "It's simple. Just let Xian'er join Wenda Sect, and wouldn't she then be a part of the sect?"
After these words, Elder Xue nodded while Elder Wu commented, "She belongs to the Goddess Sect. How could she join Wenda Sect?"
"Xian'er severed ties with the Goddess Sect a year ago. She's on her own now, and joining Wenda Sect shouldn't raise any objections."
Elder Mei deliberately mentioned that Mei Xianfu had left the Goddess Sect a year ago to prove that today's plan to acquire the Dao Artifact was not premeditated.
Whether premeditated or not, Elder Wu was not agreeable.
Tang Zhi, however, nodded earnestly:
"Speaking no more of other matters, if Miss Xian'er wishes to join Wenda Sect, I am willing to assist wholeheartedly. If Elder Xue also agrees to help, we could make Miss Xian'er a True Disciple of the sect."
Little Elder Tang's status is not high, but he belongs to the Tang Family. With Elder Xue's assistance, securing a True Disciple position is not impossible.
He should have left it unsaid, but uttering these words turned Elder Wu's eyes red, as she glanced at her husband, "Guo'er is still just an Inner Sect Disciple! If you have the ability to make someone a True Disciple, why didn't you use it for Guo'er?"
Tang Zhi had to explain to his wife, "Guo'er's aptitude is not enough to bear the responsibility of a True Disciple! Besides, his strength is insufficient, forcing him into the position would only lead to disbelief and wouldn't benefit the sect."
Elder Wu angrily replied, "Who dares to object? Besides, clandestine operations are present among other aristocratic families. Why must we heed others' opinions?"
Elder Xue snorted and said, "Elder Wu, if you think there's clandestine manipulation within the sect, you may bring it up at the Elder's assembly. What do you intend by grumbling privately?"
He then addressed Tang Zhi, "Your aptitude isn't actually inferior to your elder brother's, particularly as your mentality is commendable. You have the potential to achieve Nascent Soul one day; as a good man, don't let yourself be hindered by a woman."
Tang Zhi received the admonishment, leaving Elder Wu fuming.
"Alright, in a couple of days, I shall propose to the Sect Master to recruit Mei Xianfu as our sect's disciple."
Tang Zhi added, "I'll start planning and inform the elders within my family."
He clasped his hands toward Elder Mei and dragged his unwilling wife away.
After they departed, Elder Xue spoke with Elder Mei, "Tang Zhi's aptitude is actually not inferior to his elder brother's, but he's been held back because of his mother's status. Thus, he hasn't been favored by his family. Moreover, since his mother passed early, he didn't manage to wed a virtuous wife, resulting in the current situation."
Before Elder Mei came to Wenda Sect, he had already investigated Tang Zhi and Elder Wu.
He knew Tang Zhi's mother was a woman whom Old Tang had fathered a child with when visiting the brothel in his early years.
Even though this woman became Old Tang's concubine later, her status remained very low among the aristocratic family, causing Tang Zhi to be scorned by the family members and bullied by his siblings after birth.
We could say that Tang Zhi's entire life of misfortune stemmed from his origin.
