I Don't Want An Ordinary Life

Chapter 36: [36] You Dare to Take Sides!

Chapter 36: You Dare to Take Sides!

Closing the bento box, Ronan wrapped it up and prepared to leave the student council office.

"President, I'll be going now. I still have to patrol regularly as a member of the public moral committee. I'll return your bento box after I wash it."

"Alright."

Under Kaguya's disappointed gaze, Ronan picked up the bento box and walked out of the student council office. Shirogane's homemade lunch never made it to Kaguya's lips.

"Being both the student council treasurer and a public moral committee member, Ronan sure is busy," Chika remarked as she watched the door close behind him.

"That's just how Ronan is," Shirogane replied with a smile. "Every time he's been responsible for handling the accounts, he's done a thorough job."

"Speaking of which, Kaguya…" Chika suddenly leaned in toward Kaguya.

"Ronan mentioned he had a bit of a grudge with you all before. What exactly was that about?"

"Well…"

Four years ago, she only heard bits and pieces of what had happened, but whenever Chika brought it up, a cold shiver ran through her.

That night—her bodyguards collapsed on the ground, Ronan drenched in blood, and his crimson eyes—those memories lingered like a haunting nightmare over the years.

Kaguya's own eyes were red as well, and for years after that incident, every time she looked in a mirror, it would remind her of that scene, to the point where she avoided mirrors altogether.

All she knew was that it started with a business dispute that ultimately led to violence. Beyond that, she had no other details.

Of course, there was also the matter involving Ai Hayasaka.

"I'm not entirely sure about the details… You could ask him directly when the time comes."

"Sure, sure!"

Knowing Chika's personality, it was only a matter of time before she forgot about it entirely.

...

After rinsing the bento box at the sink, Ronan stepped out of the restroom, intending to head back to the classroom.

Today, as usual, he had to patrol as a member of the disciplinary committee, searching for couples and figuring out ways to break them up.

Though the school rules were clear, there were still many students openly defying them. According to Iino Miko, Shuchiin had originally been a strict aristocratic school.

Over time, however, more indulgent parenting led to a gradual loosening of the school's regulations.

The general impression of Shuchiin Academy from the outside world was that it was a prestigious school populated by spoiled heirs with high test scores.

That evaluation was fairly accurate.

When Ronan joined the public moral committee, he had no intentions of truly reforming the school's culture. His primary goal was to deal with those annoyingly clingy couples that he found unbearable.

"Another day of making a few lovebirds break up..."

Clang!

Just as he muttered to himself while approaching the classroom door, a loud noise—a heavy object slamming against a desk—caught his attention.

Curious, he opened the door to find that nearly all the students were gone, leaving just two people inside.

Ishigami and Ogino, the latter being someone Ronan had asked to be investigated.

Ogino had driven a pair of crafting scissors into the desk, the shattered remains of an SD card scattered beside it.

"I thought I kept my activities well-hidden. How on earth did you find out?" Ogino glared venomously at Ishigami. "Did you have someone investigate me?"

"What are you two doing?" Ronan stepped forward, approaching the pair.

"Oh, it's Ronan. Nothing much, just having a chat with Ishigami." Ogino's demeanor shifted immediately upon seeing Ronan, putting on a friendlier face.

Ogino knew who he was dealing with—a somewhat unhinged member of the disciplinary committee.

"Well, go ahead. I'll just stand here and watch," Ronan replied.

"Uh..."

"Is that a problem?" Ronan asked, raising an eyebrow.

"No, not at all," Ogino stammered.

"Ronan, could I have a moment alone with Ogino?" Ishigami requested.

Seeing Ishigami's earnest request, Ronan nodded. "Sure, just keep things calm."

"Got it."

After Ronan moved to the other side of the room, Ishigami continued, "I don't plan on snitching, but I need you to stop doing this sort of thing. I don't want this to escalate any further."

Ogino paused, his gaze drifting to Ronan.

Noticing that Ronan wasn't paying attention, Ogino smirked. "Well, this is a bit troublesome. I'm already dating Kyoko, so backing out now would be a waste. How about this? I have a compromise."

He stepped closer, casually hooking an arm around Ishigami's neck and whispering, "You like Kyoko, right? Come over to my place today. I'll let you have her for a couple of days."

"!"

That remark shattered Ishigami's resolve to stay calm.

Without realizing the storm he had just unleashed, Ogino turned away and nonchalantly added, "Don't worry, I'll convince her. And if I can't, I can always use force…"

Bam!

Before he could finish his sentence, Ishigami's rage-fueled punch smashed into Ogino's face.

"You bastard! What do you take Otomo for?!"

Blow after furious blow rained down as Ishigami lost himself in his anger, oblivious to everything else around him.

"Hey! Didn't I tell you to stay calm?"

Ronan, who had been standing off to the side, stepped in as soon as Ishigami started throwing punches. He knew the guy had completely lost control and moved to pull him back.

"Ronan! Stay out of this! I'm going to punch him until no girl would ever want him again!"

"Fine, but you can't do this on school grounds. If someone sees you…"

Ronan hadn't even finished speaking before people began filing into the classroom. They walked in just in time to see Ronan, Ogino, and Ishigami locked in a scuffle.

'Seriously, couldn't you have picked a worse time to show up?' Ronan thought with a sigh.

Ogino, still taking the punches, suddenly flashed a sinister smile and murmured to Ishigami, "Stop now. I won't touch Kyoko anymore. But if you keep this up, she'll end up paying for it."

The remark froze Ishigami's raised fist mid-air.

At the same time, it lit a fire under Ronan.

Seeing Ishigami pause, Ogino, now surrounded by enough onlookers, quickly switched to a pitiful expression. "Please stop! I still have drama club practice."

Ishigami widened his eyes, noticing the disgusted glares from their classmates and realizing he'd been tricked.

"You…"

"I truly love Kyoko. Even if you beat me, I'll never—"

Before he could finish, Ronan delivered a flying kick to Ogino's face, sending him crashing into the wall, unconscious.

"Fine, I'll do you the favor!"

He punctuated his words by stomping on Ogino's stomach.

"What's going on?"

"Who's attacking Ogino? Ronan? Ishigami?"

"Ronan…"

Ishigami started to speak, but before he could finish, Ronan turned and punched him in the face.

Thud!

With a look of utter confusion, Ishigami was sent flying into the crowd.

'Why…why did you hit me…?'

"Ishigami! You bastard! You're siding with him?!"

'I'm not…' Ishigami thought, his mind still spinning.

As his senses returned, Ishigami froze.

He noticed the fearful yet disdainful stares from the classmates aimed at Ronan. He also felt a gentle hand helping him up. In that moment, he understood what Ronan was trying to do.
