I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, So I’ll Max Out My Defense

Chapter 910 - 911: Heaven’s Fake Goods

Chapter 910: Chapter 911: Heaven’s Fake Goods

Wang Datou was full of bluster, leaving his listeners confused with his half-truths mixed with plenty of exaggerations.

“Just now, Brother Wang mentioned that there seems to be a talent named Jiumozhi rising within the Buddhist Sect, could you elaborate on that for me?”

Li Xiaobai asked.

“Ha-ha, I knew you young folks like to hear about this. They say talent attracts talent, and I see there’s definitely some truth to that.”

“This Jiumozhi hails from the Great Wheel Monastery, a monk with a strong aura of slaughter, fond of challenging others everywhere and often leaving the monks he contests severely injured. Over time, the fame of Jiumozhi’s talent spread.”

“The Great Wheel Monastery is after all a temple with a long history, and the reason that guy has managed to live until now is largely thanks to the protection of the monastery. Otherwise, he would have been taken away by the Arhat Hall for suppression long ago.”

“However, I heard that Arhat Hall couldn’t move against him directly and even sought help from Enforcement Teams elsewhere to bring Jiumozhi to justice. I reckon his days are numbered now.”

Wang Datou continued talking while pouring himself drinks, none of this was a secret and could easily be learned by inquiring around, so he wasn’t particularly secretive about it.

“Dare I ask what Jiumozhi’s character is like? He must be a deeply wicked person to attract the attention of Arhat Hall, right?”

Li Xiaobai continued asking.

“That I haven’t heard about. Oddly enough, Jiumozhi steers clear of women and meat, does not chase glory, and observes every rule of the Buddhist Sect, except reading scriptures. Being only brave and fierce has probably challenged the face of many monasteries which must be why Arhat Hall targets him so.”

“The surface of this Pure Land of the Buddhist Sect seems peaceful, but undercurrents are swirling, especially within the Buddha Country. It’s best to avoid getting involved unless necessary, for a single misstep can lead to irrevocable doom,” Wang Datou shook his head and clicked his tongue in lamentation.

“I wonder where this talent is now? If there’s a chance, I’d really like to meet and get to know him,” Li Xiaobai said, pretending to yearn.

“With the great tomb about to open, he’ll surely enter it, but if you ask me, it’s better not to meet. Encountering him means either death or injury—quite terrifying!” Wang Datou stated dismissively.

“That’s not necessarily the case, though. He might be strong, but not invincible at his level. There’s nothing to fear,”

Li Xiaobai said dismissively. To him, Jiumozhi might seem formidable but also apparently preferred easier targets, otherwise, why wouldn’t he challenge the top contenders on the Earth Immortal List instead of seeking out the Buddhist talents?

“That’s actually quite right. There’s always someone better. Indeed, here on the Western Continent, he met his nemesis twice—one is the young monk Liao Chen from the Great Thunderclap Temple, and the other an outsider named Li Xiaobai, both of whom bullied him badly.”

Wang Datou smacked his lips, running out of wine. Li Xiaobai gestured and served him another jug, a smile appearing on his face.

“Both gave him a beating?”

“More than just a beating. The young monk Liao Chen is a talent of the Thunderclap Temple, not only powerful in cultivation but also of the purest character, who after a minor punishment let Jiumozhi go. But this cultivator named Li Xiaobai was quite different.”

“How so?”

Li Xiaobai’s heart skipped a beat, and he hurriedly asked.

“This man’s methods are quite seasoned, clearly accustomed to the rough and tumble of life. He first severely injured Jiumozhi on purpose and took all his possessions, seemingly letting him go, but secretly followed him, spreading news of his injuries to attract countless other Buddhist talents.”

“After Jiumozhi had defeated all the attackers and left them severely injured, he suddenly appeared and snatched the possessions of those talents. Any who objected were brutally beaten, and afterwards, he spared a few survivors to pin all the blame on Jiumozhi—it was quite tragic!”

“If Jiumozhi hadn’t sent a letter to Arhat Hall in desperation, the world might still be deceived!”

Wang Datou spoke animatedly, looking as excited as if he had been the instigator, completely oblivious to Li Xiaobai’s grim expression beside him.

Good grief, that impostor silently drew such massive enmity toward him; it was lucky he was smart and had used the alias Liu Jinshui before coming ashore. Had he used his real name, wouldn’t he have been beaten to death?

“You never mentioned this before, did you?”

Li Xiaobai looked at Hu Meizi, his eyes narrowing slightly.

“I had no idea either. Brother Li’s whereabouts are very secretive. He’s a man like the wind!”

Hu Meizi stuck out her tongue and whispered, her eyes filled with excitement. She loved causing trouble, and even if she wasn’t the one causing it, hearing about others doing so was quite thrilling.

“Hey there, tell me, what’s the deal with this Li Xiaobai, and how did he suddenly rise to fame?” Wang Datou asked.

“Uh, I’m not sure, maybe it’s because he’s handsome? I’ve heard that handsome guys usually don’t have bad luck.”

Li Xiaobai touched his nose and replied quietly.

“So, Brother Liu, what do you think of my looks?”

Wang Datou came closer with a grin and asked.

Li Xiaobai: “A gifted talent, hard to sum up in a few words!”

“Haha, I’ll take that as a good omen!”

“By the way, where are you from, looking like a heroic youth? You must be a famously talented individual as well, right? The Large Tomb is fraught with danger, how about we team up and split the loot evenly?”

Wang Datou’s eyes darted around, trying to get Li Xiaobai to join him.

“We’ll see. I’m out of here.”

Li Xiaobai waved his hand, and with all eyes shocked, he coolly walked away with Hu Meizi.

What the heck?

Just now, I was all ears to your questions, but now when it’s my turn to chat, it ends in a second? Is he the conversation killer?

Wang Datou was slightly confused, feeling that this young man was somewhat unreliable.

Just as they were about to get up and try chatting with him for a bit, a child watching coldly nearby immediately rushed forward with a smile and said, “Two tables of food and drinks total five supreme Immortal Stones, which one of you is paying?”

Wang Datou’s face instantly turned the color of liver, damn, he’d been tricked! That guy freeloaded off his information, then just dusted his hands and left, sticking him with the bill!

Wasn’t he supposed to treat?

Can people no longer hold a basic level of trust between them?

Bah, you’re going to end up friendless like this!

Li Xiaobai didn’t care about the minor disturbance in the inn; he was currently driving a golden chariot, speeding towards the Buddha Country.

“Elder Liu, where are we heading? Aren’t we waiting for my Brother Master?”

Hu Meizi asked, puzzled.

“He didn’t come to find you even though you were missing, which shows his mind isn’t really on you, and who knows when he’ll return? Let’s also check out the Large Tomb to get an idea of the situation and perhaps sneak into Master Wuhu’s preaching session.”

Li Xiaobai said. Santian City was small, and they quickly left the city, with its mountains stretching behind, where the Large Tomb was located on the border with the Buddha Country.

At the moment, there were more cultivators gathered at the foot of the mountain than in the city itself, all waiting for the opening of the Large Tomb.

Many Buddhist Sect disciples were stationed on the mountain to guard it, preventing all creatures from ascending, and even a temporary temple was erected to protect the Large Tomb at all costs.

“Where is your Brother Master checking things out?”

Li Xiaobai looked around but didn’t spot any suspicious people.

“I don’t know about that; Brother Li said it was too dangerous for me to follow.”

Hu Meizi looked innocent, and Li Xiaobai realized that this woman really didn’t know anything, she was just a decoration.

But it was at this moment, a hoarse voice came from behind them: “You two are also here to treasure hunt? I happen to have a blueprint of the Large Tomb’s interior; it’s only ten thousand top-grade Immortal Stones, what do you think?”
