Chapter 99: Chapter 99: A Fleeting Dream
Returning to the academy, it was already nighttime.
Having gone the entire day without eating, Feng Qi first stopped by the academy cafeteria for a late dinner before heading straight back to his dorm.
After washing up, he sat at his desk and powered on his computer.
Even after thrashing the three brats, he still felt uneasy.
Once people are set on an idea, it becomes incredibly hard to correct or change their minds.
It's like that period in history when a group of fools genuinely believed the Earth was flat and dismissed the spherical Earth theory as a hoax or conspiracy.
No matter how many times the truth was demonstrated to them, they stubbornly clung to their misguided beliefs.
If Ferdinand Magellan were alive to witness it, he'd probably burst out of his grave, unable to contain his fury, and engage in an online debate with those idiots.
Feng Qi decided that the next time he entered the future dreamscape, he would investigate further into the "Destiny Association."
If the organization still appeared in the records, the three brats were in for another round of punishment.
There's nothing that a butterfly's slap can't fix. If one slap doesn't work, then just keep slapping.
Glancing at the clock, it was already 9 p.m.
He opened his notebook and began outlining plans for the future.
The notes served as a kind of memorandum from his conversations with his future self, ensuring he wouldn't forget critical information.
In truth, Feng Qi had considered accomplishing tasks that his future self had failed to complete.
For example, carrying on his lineage.
To gain access to Star City Shelter's privileges, a legacy was necessary.
When the shelter was being built, most of the people alive today wouldn't exist in the future, making it impossible to connect with future shelter residents directly.
Thus, the only way to secure access credentials was through generational inheritance.
Entrusting such a critical mission to anyone else seemed far less reliable than entrusting it to his own descendants.
However, despite checking his mailbox repeatedly during his trips to the future, his future self had never accomplished this particular task.
While Feng Qi could theoretically handle it himself in the present, he had no intention of doing so.
Major changes in the present timeline would have significant repercussions on the future timeline.
The future is built upon the foundation of the present.
If he were to marry and have children in the present, every subsequent future timeline would require him to devote significant energy to raising those children, effectively raising the difficulty level of future timelines.
Each time he returned from the future dreamscape, his first concern would inevitably be his children.
Therefore, this task had to be left to his future self. The future version of him had ample time and opportunities to try, whereas the present required stability and a focus on preparing for future challenges.
The night deepened, and rain began to fall outside.
The heavy downpour and gusting winds outside did not disturb Feng Qi. He remained focused, occasionally jotting down ideas in his notebook.
After a while, three new plans for the future were added to his notes.
Plan One: Hand over the mailbox to Mu Qing and use its messages to learn why she formed the Dawn Rebel Army, the reasons behind her decision to annihilate a city, and her revival of the Rune-Enhanced Human project.
Note: Mu Qing might hold the key to uncovering the secrets of the Crimson Research Institute. This plan could yield unexpected insights and potentially unveil the institute's hidden agenda.
Plan Two: Avoid further involvement with the Crimson Research Institute and other mysterious organizations. Instead, focus on forming a domain combat squad to contribute to the eradication of domain fields.
Notes: This future timeline, due to avoiding forbidden events, has a high probability of surviving for a long time. You could personally witness and prevent certain events that might occur, such as stopping Lin Ran when he attempts to introduce a cultivation technique.
Note 2: This timeline will also come with immense pressure. You will fall from the pedestal of a super genius... Prepare yourself mentally.
Plan Three: Continue searching for the werewolf among the students. He remains a significant threat and must be eliminated.
Notes: You can start by investigating the "monitoring chip" to locate him.
Note 2: During the search, you must not reveal any suspicion or intent to investigate, as this might alert the forces behind him. In this timeline, everything must be done cautiously. Finding him would be ideal, but if not, it's better to let it go.
After writing down these three plans, Feng Qi carefully reviewed them again.
Plan Three, in particular, had many uncertainties.
It was possible that by avoiding forbidden events, he might not trigger the werewolf's vigilance. The secret organization might even forego planting a monitoring chip on him. After all, with countless domain combat squads in existence, forming another one would seem harmless to these mysterious powers.
Previously, Feng Qi had twice been targeted and executed by the secret forces because he actively investigated them. His direct actions revealed to the werewolf student that Feng Qi knew about the treacherous forces hiding within human society. This realization made him a liability.
At that moment, the secret organization faced the risk of exposure, compelling them to act decisively and eliminate him. However, this time, the third plan carried many uncertainties. It was highly likely that even until the end, he might not uncover the hidden mole.
It was almost dawn when Feng Qi finally closed his notebook and lay down.
Ever since gaining the ability to travel into future dreamscapes, he found it increasingly difficult to fall asleep quickly.
Closing his eyes, he listened to the raindrops tapping against the window, yet his mind swirled with an endless flood of chaotic thoughts.
Through the future database, he had uncovered many hidden secrets of both history and reality. Yet, the path forward remained shrouded in fog, and humanity's way out was still unclear.
As his thoughts churned, sleep finally claimed him, and a faint smile crept across his face.
In his dream, Feng Qi stood alone, challenging countless domain creatures. By then, he had accumulated thousands of prefix titles, each leveled up to hundreds of ranks.
Wave after wave of domain creatures surged toward him. With a single thought, they all exploded into clouds of blood mist, which then flowed into his body, further strengthening him.
No matter how powerful the domain creatures were, they were no match for him. With just a single punch, even space itself trembled and distorted under the pressure of his strength.
Feng Qi was invincible.
Injuries meant nothing to him. His body possessed immortality, instantly healing from any wound, no matter how severe. Even if reduced to a single surviving cell, he could regenerate instantly.
His other abilities were equally terrifying. With spatial manipulation, he could rip through dimensions and teleport anywhere. No domain creature could keep up with him. A mere wave of his hand could create a black hole, devouring countless enemies and reducing them to dust.
At this moment, Feng Qi was like a god. With a simple gesture, he could pluck stars from the sky or peer into the past and future. He was truly unparalleled.
"Who dares challenge me?!" he roared with laughter, his voice shaking the heavens.
But just as Feng Qi reveled in his omnipotence, a chill crept down his spine. He turned to find that Little Black had somehow appeared silently behind him. His heart froze.
As he spun around, Little Black dissolved into a dark mist, enveloping him entirely. His vision darkened, and a sinister voice whispered coldly in his ear:
"Die."
Feng Qi almost blurted out, "Spare me!" but managed to suppress it.
Jolting awake, he sat up, drenched in cold sweat.
Realizing it had been a dream, he took a deep breath and let the tension melt away.
For a long while, he sat in silence, then slowly broke into a smile.
Though it had only been a dream, the first half was undeniably thrilling. He couldn't help but look forward to a future where such power was not just fantasy but reality.
That would be the day when no threat, no challenge, could faze him.
