Chapter 361: Before the Storm
After finishing their meal, a meeting was held with Lady Elara. The sea remained calm for now, and Logan's tamed creatures had done their job well. Abyss, in particular, was more than enough to ward off threats in the deeper waters. Logan even checked the massive gluttonous shark's stats and saw it had reached level 67 overnight.
It had become an efficient killer in its new form.
Logan expected nothing less. Finding Abyss had been a stroke of luck—and one he intended to capitalize on.
"I believe a storm is forming in the south. If we hurry, we may avoid its center," Lady Elara announced, dressed in her captain's uniform. "That means we don't have time to tame any more creatures, Logan. If anything, we'll need the ones you previously tamed and have your creatures speed up the ships."
Everyone nodded in agreement at her words without interrupting.
"I'll keep that in mind," Logan replied. "My sea creatures can assist by manipulating the waves. With their strength, they should be able to create a current to push us forward. As for the storm… I can likely divert us from the worst of it with my powers. But if it gets too dangerous, we'll need backup."
He glanced toward the others.
"If needed, Silvia can summon the family of Stormwing under my control. Three of them should be enough to stabilize the storm's edge. Just make sure we have a teleportation array ready."
"Understood," Rubina answered. "Serana and I will begin setting it up. We should be done in under thirty minutes, so long as the waves don't toss the ship too much."
Rubina's tone was calm—confident. She had studied enough under both Marie and Silvia to handle it. The key was precision with the arrays and coordinates.
"How's our current trajectory?" Lisa asked.
"If we manage to skirt the storm's edge safely, we're still on schedule—maybe even save a day," Lady Elara replied, pointing at their estimated position on the map spread across the table. "We'll only know for sure once the stars are visible. Until then, it's guesswork."
A navigator nearby added, "At night, I'll check our distance by comparing star positions. That should confirm our progress."
"Perfect," Lady Elara concluded. "Then prepare everything. Secure all supplies, tie down loose equipment, and brace for heavy winds. We move as soon as the tides shift."
With the meeting adjourned, the crew dispersed into action. Logan stepped outside, reaching for his tamed beasts.
[Get ready, we need to speed the ships, do your best to help.] he ordered all his aquatic creatures through the Empathic Link.
His newly tamed shark, Abyss, was the first to respond, swiftly diving forward as Logan commanded it to use Hydrojet Burst. The creature's immense form churned the ocean with every sweep of its tail, generating a powerful current that helped pull the ships forward through the waves.
Spearfish, who had only reached level 28 the day before, had already climbed to 37 thanks to the mana stones Logan had provided overnight and again in the morning. Today, it would be forced into evolution—Logan needed it to grow stronger before the storm hit.
And the storm was coming.
The sea had already begun to shift. Abyss did its best to smooth the water's surface, but the effect was only just enough to keep the ships steady. The boost Logan hoped for wasn't quite there yet.
Still, they weren't out of time.
But the winds... they were starting to howl.
Logan tossed the last of the mana stones into the water, trusting Spearfish to absorb them. He had other tasks to handle now—like checking in on Kryst. The mana slime had been hard at work cultivating crystal formations throughout the trip. She even slept beside the crystalline tree on deck, nurturing it with her Crystal Cultivation skill.
"Kryst, we'll need more crystals. I'm cutting your cultivation short for now," Logan said as he approached. "Distribute them to the newer tames. And if you need anything to speed up your process, let me know."
[No need. Friends help. Stones grow strong,] Kryst replied through the link, her voice smooth and serene as always.
Logan nodded, noticing two crewmembers with water affinity resting nearby. It seemed Kryst had already enlisted their help—likely briefed ahead of the meeting. Their mana signatures still lingered over the crystalline growths.
"Good. Make sure you're indoors once the storm hits. I don't want you falling into the sea—it's going to get rough."
Kryst blinked slowly and returned to her task, her body beginning to pulse softly as she wrapped the crystals in strands of translucent mana.
Logan moved on, next on the list were his knights.
The pair had been training all morning and were getting close to level 80. They where trying their best to try to catch up to him in level.
"I really believe we won't be in danger with you around Logan," Kai said as he brushed his hair back with is hand. "Though I feel a bit useless on the ship. At best, Chloe and I can reinforce the hull using our new metal affinity. We've tuned our skills for that while we were training waiting for our chance to act with you again—so during the operation, we'll each be stationed on opposite ships."
He raised a bracelet into the air. It floated, twirling like water under his command—liquid metal dancing at his will.
"As for our role in the coming storm, I suggest you teleport us to each ships beforehand. I'll take the left. Chloe will take the right. As for you... I am sure you can use our skills to repair any problems on the main ship."
"I doubt I can do the same without practice but sure I will give it a go," Logan said with a smirk, "but that is truly impressive, Kai. You've improved so much since I last had you in my team."
Kai gave a modest shrug, but Logan caught the slight smile.
He then turned to Chloe. "You were the one who figured out how to shape metal like this first, weren't you?"
Kai winced in mock pain. "Oof, why did you have to point it out that way."
"It's true," Chloe nodded, she took out her matching bracelet and did the same, in her case the metal moved a little slower but still looked as fluid as what Kai did.
"Relax Kai, you may not have been the first one to think about it, but you make it look effortless."
Kai rolled his eyes but didn't argue. He knew Logan was right.
