Chapter 224: Regular Gauntlets?
[Back in the Competition]
After seeing that Cicillian's body had disappeared into digital matter, she left. In this part of the competition, there was a 10-second timer before someone who had died could respawn.
This could be displayed under the team's section in the holographic screen in the sky.
Lillian, peering past the green canopy of the trees, stared at Cicillian's name, having been crossed out with a timer next to it, ticking down.
She then swept her gaze towards her own team, finding that none of her team members' names was given this treatment.
Although her team members were competent to defend themselves, given that they were in the same class, the other team were slightly more attack-oriented than theirs.
Norman was added due to his significant defensive ability to construct steel barriers. While he could act as an attacker, he was quite slow.
Charlotte, on the other hand, was a double-edged sword support. Even if she could destabilise an enemy's focus by rupturing their eardrums, she would ultimately destroy theirs as well.
However, it didn't truly matter.
'They're only there as support, just like in the game.' Lillian shrugged, shaking her head with a smile, 'I'm confident enough to call myself the heavy-hitter.'
As an individual trained by a deadly assassin, who, although possibly knew a variety of techniques and hadn't taught her them, she was assured her skills would suffice.
She took a glance back at the blood-stained ground where Cicillian previously laid.
Why hadn't he used any of his items at the beginning?
Lillian scratched her head, wondering why a person like him wouldn't miss a chance to show off his equipment.
Had he truly thought he could just use his "Orb of Devastating Blood" to really drive them away?
Lillian turned around and began making her way back.
"Meh... Perhaps he did think that."
As she strolled back towards her group, she looked up into the sky, reading out loud her points.
"Our team is up by 160... 7?"
She recalled that the points for eliminating a contestant were around 4. So, where did the additional three come from?
Deciding not to dwell on such a question that would get her nowhere, she looked at the other team's score.
"And theirs is... 72. They upped it by 14. Not bad."
Soon, her walking got her back to her group. This was also where her earlier question of the 3 points was answered.
She looked towards the woody brown wolf they were sitting on and couldn't help but smile a bit.
She was then spotted by Norman, who greeted her with a nod with his head added with a push of his glasses.
Following that was Charlotte, whose face twitched at her. She yelled:
"I thought you said it wasn't going to take long! That took extremely long!"
Lillian tilted her head, "Why so loud? And it was just a couple of minutes. The competition only ends after an hour and a half or when one of either team reaches 500 points."
Charlotte grumbled, "I suppose..."
Lillian nodded before looking towards Norman, her eyes glancing at the metal pole sticking out from the monster's head.
"Is your mana back to a good amount or do you still need to rest?"
The lenses of Norman's glasses flashed with a confident light.
"I will be fine in an engagement with the enemy."
"Is that so? Then, let's keep on going. Let's try and reach the mountain as fast as we can."
Lillian turned her head, trying to find the direction where the mountain would be.
Using the corpse of the bird that Cicillian arrived in as a compass of sorts, she began moving forward.
However, before that, she made sure to store the body of the wolf they had killed in her spatial ring. While they obviously can't take it back into reality, she had other plans for it.
They rushed through the forest, encountering and killing the monsters along the way that were slightly higher in ranks the nearer they got towards the centre of the forest.
Soon, they had reached 200 points.
The monsters weren't extremely difficult to deal with, even with the increase in ranks. This was because of the number of Mana Shells covering their core.
The academy had set it to the lowest possible option, which was, of course, one.
This was to allow the students to have a much higher pace and speed in hunting the monsters. Obviously, all the real difficulty laid in dealing with the enemy team.
On their way to the mountain, they had stopped to rest several times—the main culprits being Norman and Charlotte.
While the edgy youth constantly hid his tiredness, needing one of the two ladies to figure out his need for a rest, Charlotte was a tad bit more open about it.
As the two were resting, Lillian went out of the group to find some monsters to kill. It was also during this that she had decided to wear her gauntlets.
Watching as gauntlets materialised in the air from her spatial ring, she put them on.
As soon as she wore them, she felt a strange weakness in her arms.
She knew the cause for this was the [Restricted] enchantment. And if she were to recall correctly, any close-quarter attack had its damage reduced by 50%.
It was... A costly requirement whilst also forcing her into needing to fight up close. She was also locked out of using her magic for offensive purposes.
She smiled wryly, putting them away and feeling the strength in her arms return.
There wasn't any point using them now, considering it would only slow her down from winning.
Considering that she was also unable to unlock it from its [Limited] enchantment was also part of her decision.
'It'll be worth it...'
As she thought that, she went on to hunt for a nearby monster, bringing their score up six points.
Once returning, they continued on their journey, eventually making their way to the base of the mountain and discovering...
